THE CHASE

THE CHASE

Aug 17, 2025

They walk back into the open air. The campus feels… smaller somehow. Like the walls have crept closer.

Tobi doesn’t speak at first. She keeps the notebook pressed to her chest, her mind churning.

Lanre and Zion trail her silently, exchanging glances behind her back.

When they reach the bench outside the library, Tobi finally sits. Opens the notebook again.

This time, she flips carefully, scanning each photo, each margin.

Zion leans over.
“Maybe there’s a name somewhere?”

Tobi keeps turning. The photos blur.

Until—
At the edge of one page — faint, almost invisible under the photo’s corner — she sees it.

A name. Scribbled upside down in the margin.
Maro S.

She stares at it until it burns into her mind.

Lanre notices. “That him?”

Tobi doesn’t answer.
Because next to the name, in the same scrawl, are three numbers.

They don’t look like a date.

They look like… an address. Or a room number.
14. 3. 7.

Zion speaks next, her voice lower than usual.
“Could be Block 14. Room 3. 7th floor?”

Lanre snorts. “We don’t even have a seventh floor here.”

But Tobi doesn’t laugh.
Because she remembers something now.

A door at the end of the corridor in Block 14.

A door no one used.

Maybe not a seventh floor.
But something.

Tobi stands abruptly.

Zion grabs her arm.
“Wait. We can’t just—”

Tobi pulls free.
“I don’t care. If he’s there, I’m not waiting anymore.”

Her voice is sharp.
More alive than it’s been in weeks.

Zion and Lanre exchange one last glance.
Then they follow her.

Toward Block 14.
Toward the door she shouldn’t remember.

The corridor is quiet when they arrive.
Too quiet.

The door at the end — pale grey, unmarked — waits like it knew they were coming.

Tobi steps forward.
Then pauses.
Her hand hovers over the handle.

She takes one last breath and looks over her shoulder at Zion and Lanre.
“You ready?”

Neither of them answer.
But neither of them leave.

Tobi grips the handle.
And turns it.

"You told my story before I could. But you forgot again."

Tobi wakes up in a classroom with no memory of how she got there. Then the first letter appears.
A familiar story she doesn't remember writing.
A crime no one remembers witnessing.

The worst part? The letters are in her bag.

A psychological thriller about memory loss, identity, and the terrifying quiet between two selves.
