Heya. Welcome to this wee short comic for Tapas' kickstarter event. The inspiration for the theme "Daydreaming" was "Make Believe and What it means to be a kid".
This comic is sort of semi-autobiographical (any resemblences to real or fictional people are purely coincidental) because of the importance that daydreaming had for me growing up. I never had an imaginary friend as such, but she's sort of in every comic I make. Someone adventurous, someone carefree. A lot of children go through isolation and family issues, so I'm glad my stories have always been my wee escape.
So, meet Becca. Becca was one of my first semi self-insert characters. A cool bi chick who tries to live her life in Berlin. Lol. I don't live there anymore, but the inspiration is definitely there.
Becca is a kid that daydreams too much according to her teachers. But growing up isolated, the best person to escape to, is in her head...
"Make Believe and what it means to be a kid" was the inspiration for the theme "daydreaming" (given by tapas for an event) and while it may be a bit heavier, this semi-autobiographical short comic is inspired by my own upbringing and how daydreaming was and still is my favourite escapism. This is what it meant to be a kid to me, and what daydreaming did for my creativity.
