Let's start with some old content from my blog!
(Lyrics were originally posted in February 2025.
Promotional pictures were posted in March 2025.)
Some fun and random trivia:
1. "Icemaker" is the name of an album
That Malik (Myungie) released in January 2018,
And also the name of the lead single from that album.
It is his sixth full-length album
Since his debut in 2010 with Summit Music Corps.
2. Most of the album was recorded and produced overseas in LA,
As a result of a push from his CEO to make his sound more global.
Prior to this, Malik had mostly rapped
About personal and sociocultural issues
That were specific to his upbringing as a mixed-race person in Seoul.
4. Fans have speculated that the lyrics of "Icemaker",
Which are a bit abstract and evoke Alice in Wonderland imagery,
Are also about Malik's disillusionment with the Hollywood lifestyle.
5. A few months later, Malik released a repackaging of the same album,
Basically making it a double album.
Probably, he and Summit couldn't agree on
Whether to keep his LA songs or his Seoul songs,
So they ended up doing two editions.
The rerelease is called "Hwagwasan".
The title track continues the narrative of "Icemaker",
And talks about his elation at returning home.
Hopefully, we will have a chance to see Malik/Myungie on stage
In The Truth Tellers Chapter 2 in September!
