Can you be a hunter?

Can you be a hunter?

Sep 01, 2025

The sun's light spilled through the windows, casting long shadows across the lockers and hallways. The bustling sounds of students laughing, rushing, and chattering filled the air. Among them, Yega made his way toward his classroom, pockets stuffed with a few coins and a restless mind swirling with thoughts from the previous night.

As he pushed open the door to his classroom, a familiar voice called out.

“Yega! Over here!” Dean waved enthusiastically from his seat near the window. His tall frame and easy smile made him stand out even amid the chaos.

Yega smiles, heading over. “Hey, how’s it going?”

Dean shrugged, leaning back in his chair. “Could’ve been better.”

Yo-Yo bounded into the room, bouncing with hyper energy. An energetic boy with a bright grin and a cap turned sideways with spiky green hair, his eyes, a rainbow color, full of life.

“Yega! Dean!Did you hear that a new manga just came out? I heard the fights are epic!” Yo-Yo gives a thumbs-up toward Yega with admiration.

Yega rubbed the back of his neck, a little embarrassed. “Nah, never had the right time to check it out.”

Emily entered behind them, calm and composed as always, her eyes scanning the room with gentle curiosity. She carried a bag filled with books and a slight smile on her face.

“Afternoon, everyone,” Emily greeted softly.

Dean’s eyes gleamed with excitement as he leaned forward. “You know what today is? The Hunter Exam!”

Yega raised an eyebrow, a bit confused. “Yeah, I know… It’s the big test, right? To become a licensed Hunter?”

Dean nodded eagerly. “Exactly! It’s the ultimate challenge; only the best of the best get through. It’s the gateway to a world of adventure!”

Yo-Yo’s eyes widened with enthusiasm. “So, today we find out if any of us can actually become Hunters?”

Before Dean could reply, a booming voice filled the halls, calling everyone.

“Attention students! All students are to report immediately to the gymnasium for an important announcement!”

The classroom erupted with buzz and hurried footsteps. Students grabbed their things and headed out, excitement and nerves swirling in the air.

Yega exchanged a glance with his friends. “Well, guess today’s the day things get real,” he said softly.

Dean grinned confidently. “Come on, let’s get there before they start. This could be the start of something huge!”

They hurried down the hallways, their footsteps echoing as they made their way to the gym.

The gymnasium doors swung open as the students rushed inside. A tall, stern-looking instructor stood on a makeshift stage at the front, his deep voice commanding attention.

“Quiet, everyone!” he boomed. “Today marks the beginning of the end of your year here! Whether you pass or fail, you will learn what it truly means to be a Hunter.”

Yega, Dean, Yo-Yo, and Emily found spots near the front, eyes fixed on the instructor. The room was filled with students nervously shifting, some whispering excitedly, others visibly tense.

The instructor continued, “The Hunter Exam is divided into several stages. You will face physical challenges, mental puzzles, and tests of your ability to work under pressure.”

“Only those who demonstrate resourcefulness, courage, and integrity will continue to the next level.”

“Everyone here will be tested to see what you got to know about what it takes to be a hunter…”

“It’s not just a job; it’s a way to survive to protect the weak, and if you can’t do the bare minimum, then you shouldn’t be here. I make myself clear!”

“So don't take this as a joke; this is real life, so I expect you all to do your best.”

“And to help with this exam, I would like to introduce you to a member of the Hunter Society.”

Suddenly a woman with blonde hair tight in a ponytail and emerald eyes covered in armor entered the stage. It was none other than the S captain, Juliet Emerald; the students were shocked. They have never seen the S-rank captain in person. She is one of the strongest in the country, only fourth place behind Eugene, Evie, and Alex.

Juliet says, “As you all know, I am one of the S-rank captains. I will be assisting you all on this exam to see where you stand.”

She continued. Her voice is steady and authoritative. “This is a rare opportunity to learn and test your skills to the fullest. Pay attention, and show me what you’re made of.”

Yega felt a mixture of awe and nerves ripple through him. Juliet Emerald was a legend, one of the strongest Hunters alive, and now she was here, watching over their exam.

Juliet’s gaze swept across the room, settling briefly on each student before speaking again. “Remember, this test isn’t just about strength; it’s about your mindset, adaptability, and your willingness to push beyond your limits. The world doesn’t wait for those who hesitate.”

She stepped forward, voice lowering slightly but still clear. “The first stage will test your durability. We will see how you can take care of yourself in a high-stress situation, so the test will begin shortly. Prepare yourselves. Your journey to becoming a Hunter starts now.”

“Try your best to succeed; good luck.”

With that, she turned and exited the stage, leaving the students buzzing with anticipation and determination.

Yega clenched his fists, feeling a spark inside him. He looked at his friends—Dean, Yo-Yo, and Emily—and saw the same fire in their eyes.

As the room settled into a tense silence, the first challenge was announced: a test of agility and teamwork in the nearby obstacle course.

Yega’s heart pounded. This was it.

Yega looked at his friends, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Dean clapped a hand on Yega’s shoulder.

“This is it, Yega. Our chance to prove ourselves,” Dean said with a determined smile.

Emily nodded softly. “Stay focused. Trust in your abilities.”

Yo-Yo grinned wildly. “Let’s do this! I’ve been waiting for this my entire life!”

As the students prepared to head out, the instructor added, “Good luck to all of you.”

Outside, the sun shone brightly over the entrance to the first exam. The sound of rustling leaves and distant bird calls filled the air.

Yega took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment. He glanced at his friends and thought, “Can I really be a hunter?” The answer would soon be tested in ways he never imagined.
