Patchwork regained her scythe. She leaped in the air, swinging her scythe around her midair to block Maya's wind slashes. Lee started his counterattack, creating psychic clones of him self to overwhelm Pomeroy. Lee then used fire magic to launch fire at Pomeroy. He did this because he realized Patchwork can only heal by using her scythe to drain the life force of plants. He was forcing her to reporize on healing, forcing her to take a hit from Maya.
It worked. Patchwork landed, slashing a tree in half to heal Pomeroy. This allows Maya to launch Patchwork so far with wind magic that she could not rejoin the fight. Without healing, Pomeroy would be doomed, so he ran away.
After regaining their strength, they began heading to the Emerald City. To defeat Emerald! They walked all the way to the entrance of the Emerald City. Two werewolf soldiers guarded it. They instantly realized they were bio-clones from House Ray. House Ray produced bio-weapons for magic users like the Ark Dragons. Unlike natural werewolves, the clones' ears and tail were more like dogs.
"Can we come in?" Lee said.
"We were ordered not to let anyone in!" Pepper Jack said.
"It is an EMERGENCY!" Lee yelled.
"We should let them in, Emerald might get made if we do not!" Said Sea Salt
The two closed the windows they were looking through. Maya was really worried that this would blow their cover. She was about to yell at Lee, but before she could, the door opened.
"How did you know that would work?" Maya whispered to Lee.
He whispered back, "The Ray family reduced their intelligence so they would not rebel."
They ran straight past the werewolves into the city itself. They slowed down after the beginning to pass burning buildings. They were forced to take in the devastation as shops had their windows smashed. Their floors and walls were charred. The streets were empty. They slowly headed to the tower of black and green emeralds. The tower of trapiche emeralds reflected the terror the dragon was instilling in the city. Maya was upset because this was intentional cruelty to keep the people of Oz in a state of fear. They slowly entered the tower and walked into a dark, almost empty circular room with hexagonal prisms made out of emerald surrounding the room.
Out of the darkness above, a dragon was sitting on a paper crane floating in the air. This dragon then leveled the paper crane next to one of the pillars of emerald and walked onto the flat top of the prism and sat down. Both of them realized this actually could not be Emerald. This was because they knew that Emerald was very energetic, whereas the figure of the dragon in front of them was very pale, ghostly, and tired. On another pillar, they saw a bunch of butterflies collecting as Eadaoin appeared on another pillar. They began kicking their legs as they sat on the edge of the pillar they were on. Lee concluded that the other dragon must have been one of the pets Eadaoin mentioned. Both of them were in their human forms, like most of the aristocratic dragons. The dragon that clearly worked for Eadaoin was unique in the fact that, in their human form, they had straight horns that pointed downwards as if drooping like the ears of a bunny. The dragon was notable because its horns were wrapped in ribbons that were bound by metal covers at the end of their horns. This dragon also looked like they could be from a more European culture because they wore ribbons around their horns clearly to make them look like two hennins. There were small holes in the ends of the cover, leading to the ribbons spilling out like fountains. They were long like streamers of paper. The dragon had purple and orange hair that was cut to look similar to look like the paper layers of a piñata. The dragon even more a silver circuit around their head with a jewel in the center that shifted between green and purple, which must have been alexandrite.
"Do not worry your pretty little heads off, we're only here to watch the fight. As I stated previously, I'm here to assess Emerald's progress, and I will say it's not looking good. I mean, if you were able to defeat a horseman of the apocalypse, I don't think a dragon that was meant to be an accountant will fare much better. Meet Ensley Morgan, the scribe who will record this fight, so I can enjoy the carnage!" Eadaoin said cheerfully.
"Wow, I do not know what's worse, the fact that you're basically cheering on one of your own people's failures or the fact that you're having someone else record the fight for you because you're too lazy. I thought you were a part of the same regime. Why would you not care if Emerald succeeded or not?" Maya asked questioningly.
"I apologize for speaking for my master, but it's because we didn't think that invading Oz with a good idea. Most of the dragons, in fact, believed it was idiotic. Before you ask why we let Emerald do it, it was because Aralu recognized Oz as a threat and so wanted to conquer it, but even his own disciples really didn't want that, so we let people volunteer for it. Emerald is so greedy that he thought he could take over the entirety of Oz himself. Honestly, he should have left this place alone and shouldn't have tormented the citizens. The only reason we are here is that this is the best opportunity to strip him of his title. If I record his failure, he's as good as gone. Then we can place someone way more competent into the role." Ensley said tiredly.
"I don't know whether or not to be disgusted at your belated attempt to let people suffer for your own selfish gain, or you're blatant attempt to throw a colleague under the bus. You two definitely had the authority to shut this down earlier or attempted to stop him directly if you actually cared about the people of Oz." Lee yelled.
Eadaoin smiled and then began to laugh. "Not all of us Ark dragons are equal. The dragons that wanted this outrank even me. I may be one of the highest-ranked dragons, but out of the five Ark Dragons, I'm considered the weakest. Also, I didn't just sit around and do nothing; I actually banned Emerald from killing anyone! He was only allowed to capture people, which means Ozma is still alive; she's just imprisoned at the bottom of this tower. I even took in most of the citizens of the Emerald City into my court because that is all I can do. All I'm allowed to do is give people the free will to fight according to my deal with the other Ark dragons. We would be having an entirely different discussion if I hadn't made a deal with them long ago. You wouldn't have free will at all because that is what I truly am. I am the embodiment of chance itself. I ended cycles of fighting between the Ark dragons Aralu and Astrid would still be trying to get rid of each other if I weren't here. The pack the five Ark dragons have is the only thing preventing every World from ceasing to exist..." Eadaoin said.
Before they could keep rambling, the entire room shook as it began to rise. The room they were in was actually a massive elevator. The shaking nearly knocked Ensley from the pillar of emerald they were sitting on. The pillars seem to actually be on top of the floor that was moving, so Eadaoin and Ensley also ended up traveling with Maya and Lee upwards. Light began slowly filtering through as the roof was almost a skylight of emerald. The two dragons looked fearful, like they were clearly scared of the roof approaching. Before they could even react shattered above them before they reached the ceiling. This seemed to startle even the dragons, as they seemed not to know what was going on.
