“In the beginning, I had late nights and barely any sleep. I still have late nights. I’ve just started my non-profit. It’s understandable. Before launching Wanted, I took three months off to create a handbook, code of ethics, and rules and regulations for future employees and managers. It was a lot of research and connection building. I managed to find five dedicated managers and hired about thirty people shortly after. It’s still a bit rocky since I haven’t figured out all the kinks. I’m confident in my non-profit. The key to success is sharing power and letting your workers use their brain and training in order to handle situations. I’m always on call, but I don’t mind.”
“It sounds amazing.” Eric was in awe of how much dedication and time Kayden put into building his dream. He hoped those children were better off because of it.
“Thank you.” Kayden replied, smiling.
“Where’s your company located?” Eric asked after a moment of hesitation.
“It’s in one of the larger cities, North Ridge.”
Eric was shocked. “That’s one of the biggest cities in the world. Not to mention super far from Castlebrooke.”
Kayden chuckled and wrapped the blankets tighter around his shoulders, cocooning himself once more. “The type of work I need to do in order to make Wanted successful involves a lot more travel and meetings on my end. It made more sense to put the main branch of my company in a central location where people can easily access it. It’s about a day’s drive from here and the plane ride is even shorter.”
Eric shook his head in disbelief. “I don’t understand. Roth says you work from home, but if you’re always having meetings, wouldn’t it make more sense to live in North Ridge?”
Kayden looked down to hide the expression on his face. What Eric said made a lot of sense logically. He was staying in Castlebrooke for more selfish reasons. He didn’t want to say goodbye to his family so soon. They’d only been in his life for a short time and he didn’t want to waste a second of it. Family was the most important to him.
“You’re right. It would be easier, but I enjoy living in Castlebrooke too much to leave. Besides, online meetings are just as fine as meeting in person. I don’t need to go to the office very often.”
Eric got the sense Kayden didn’t want to talk anymore, so he adjusted his blankets and yawned. He also reached the end of his curiosity. He was exhausted after the fiasco at dinner. “I’m going to bed.”
Kayden held back a laugh and nodded. “Me too. Good night, Eric.”
“Uh…good night.”
