Chapter 10
It’s Monday, 2:00 PM. I’m walking outside again, Vesper said he left a stash for me to take outside the gate. And there it was, a box, by the gate. Opening it, slowly, I reach inside finding a box of ammunition and rations. I feel someone tap my shoulder. I flinch, grabbing the arm. Fortunately, before I twist the arm I realise it’s Vesper– again.“Did you find the supplies?”
I stand up, turning to him and giving him a look that says really he realises that I’m standing by the box of supplies. Realising his mistake, he backtracks. “Thank you for the supplies.”
I smile at him. He smiles back. He then starts fiddling with his fingers. “Liz said that she’s got the camp under control.”
I nod. Realising that I’m no longer needed. I grab some of the supplies and stuff them into my bag, nodding along as Vesper rambles. “She also dismissed me.”
Dismissed– like dismissed? “How?”
He looks at me before asking me if I know what dismiss means. Of course I do! “Now, I mean dismissed, how?”
He gives a look of understanding before he picks up a bag off a hook. “I’m free to leave. Go and explore, do what I want?”
Nodding. I look at the bag he picked up. Was he going to leave as well? I finished packing my bag. He then begins to fiddle with his fingers; his eyes keep wandering down to check his nails.
He then speaks, his voice seems unsteady… like he’s nervous. “Could- could I come with you?”
I stare at him like he’s delusional. Or maybe he has a death wish. “I can barely manage supplies for myself. Let alone two people.”
He stares at the ground, his face falls. I don’t feel guilty. I don’t want him to get hurt, for his safety. He nods before walking off. I then grab a piece of rope off the wall then I signal to the guards to open the gates and let me out. I whisper, my voice question… not to anyone in particular. “Sayōnara.”
