Chapter 9: A Ghost from the Past
Raghav had admitted his sick daughter to the hospital. She has a cancer and the chances of her being alive is 50-50. Raghav and his wife were really worried about there daughters condition. Even though she looked so paled, they took a good care of her. Raghav so doing everything to his daughter in his will. He is went to the medicine shore and when he returned after getting some medicine and food, a nurse stopped him and said, "Your daughter has been shifted to another ward." Shekar asked, "Where?"
The nurse replied, "Upstairs, room 504. This package is for you, too." He took the package, which was in a small cover. He took the lift upstairs. As he was walking down the hospital corridor checking for the room number, he found room 504, but it was locked from the outside.
Raghav didn't understand. He checked the room next to it, but no one was there. The whole floor was empty. Even if he wanted to ask someone, there was no one.
Raghav checked the package he was given. There was a key inside. He took the key and opened the door. It wasn't a room but a corridor, just like the one Shekar saw. Raghav didn't understand. He went inside. The doors closed behind him. And then, what happened next, we know. And now, Raghav also knows where his powers came from.
Shekar found all this when he referred to Raghav's medical file.
Shekar didn't understand why all this was happening near medical facilities. Shekar took a photo of the file. It also had the MEDS signature.
Shekar's inner voice: Why is it all medical-related? Is there a connection to medicine? The person who gave these keys has to answer this.
He immediately called Meera. "Did you find anything?"
Meera: "I found details about one person. My college mate. It was a little easy to find his details. He was a medical student. This sign was in a patient report."
Shekar: "I also found it in a medical file. But how many medical reports do we have to check like this?"
Meera: "That's what I don't understand. We have two more files. Let's see if we get a clue from them."
Shekar: "We have to visit these hospitals. Do one thing. You come with me. Let's go together. And tell Murthi to send the photos after he gets the other two files."
Meera: "Okay."
The two of them visited these two hospitals. They searched for the MEDS signature in the files in the hospitals. They checked the systems to see if they could find anything. They found MEDS signatures in the mortuary files and some patients' files. Meera said that the doctors put these signs, not the nurses. They immediately went and met the duty doctors. They showed them the sign and asked, "Whose sign is this?"
The duty doctor said, "It's not mine."
Shekar: "If it's not yours, then whose is it?"
The duty doctor: "When I'm not here, doctors from other shifts come."
Meera: "What's the other doctor's name?"
The duty doctor: "Doctor Vivek. But this is not his sign."
Shekar: "Then whose sign is this?"
The duty doctor: "Sometimes, helping doctors come and treat. They're not the main doctors. They're like assistants. So I don't know whose sign this is. You have to check."
Shekar and Meera immediately went and checked all the doctor's files. But they couldn't find any file.
Shekar came to Meera and said, "What if someone used a fake signature?"
Meera: "We have to verify the doctors' details."
Shekar and Meera met and verified every doctor, but it was useless. They were all clear. And because Shekar remembered the face, he knew it wasn't any of them.
Again, all the doors were closing. Shekar and Meera didn't know what to do.
Shekar: "Okay, where's the next hospital?"
Meera: "A diagnostic center in this city."
Shekar: "Okay, let's go."
Shekar's phone rang.
It was IG Uncle. Shekar picked up the call. "Tell me, sir."
IG Uncle: "What's happening with the Raghav case?"
Shekar: "I'm working on the case files, sir."
IG Uncle: "Because there's no media attention yet, you're able to work on this case under the radar."
Shekar got fed up and put the call on speaker. Meera was also listening. IG Uncle didn't know that.
IG Uncle continued, "You pointed out Raghav for the first murders. Now he's also dead. And there's no clarity on how he died. You're not saying anything, and the people there also can't say it clearly. What are you trying to do, Shekar?"
Shekar: "Sir, my intention is not to hide the Raghav murder case. I want to solve it and show you the proofs."
IG Uncle: "Okay, by when will you submit it to me?"
Shekar: "We found a lead, sir. There's some link between the hospitals and the killer, sir. We're working on that, and we'll find it soon."
IG Uncle: "You better do. And it's also hard to hold off media attention for too long. When the media finds out and the pressure comes from there, the case will be taken away. And one last thing. Keep Meera out of this. Don't put my daughter in danger again because of this case. I let it go once, but it won't happen every time."
Shekar couldn't answer that and bowed his head.
Meera responded, "Dad, I mean, sir, nothing will happen to me. I can take care of myself."
IG Uncle: "Okay, be careful," and he ended the call.
Shekar: "Thanks..."
Meera supported him and said, "Come on, let's solve the case together."
Shekar: "Okay, let's go."
They sped up the case. They immediately reached the diagnostic hospital. They were referring to all the doctor's files. They found 26 patient files. When they inquired, 21 of them were dead. Only 5 members were alive. And all of them were in different cities. They had to travel there. But in the meantime, Meera got a call from Murthi. Meera picked up Murthi's call. "Tell me, Murthi."
Murthi: "Madam, I sent the photos of the two victims' case details you asked for."
Meera: "Okay, Murthi, thank you," and she ended the call.
Meera told Shekar, "Shekar, Murthi sent the files of the other two victims."
Shekar: "Which hospital this time?"
Meera: "One is a government hospital."
Shekar: "A government hospital?"
Meera: "Yes."
Shekar: "The two we checked now are private hospitals. It was hard to find details there. Now, a government hospital means we have to work even harder. Okay, what about the other one?"
Meera: "The other one is a medical camp."
Shekar: "A medical camp? Do doctors sign on papers there, too?"
Meera: "They do. The details the doctor gives about the patient are very important, so they have to."
Shekar: "Okay, okay. Let's go and check."
Meera: "Hey, we're missing something, aren't we? We checked Raghav's file first, and I checked my college mate's file. So whose photo of the signature was sent first? And why did we miss that?"
Shekar: "That was Raghav's. I just took a photo of what the sign looked like and sent it."
Meera: "Then why did it take so long to send the full details of Raghav's file after the photo?"
Shekar: "I sent it immediately, but it was sent late because of a signal problem."
Meera: "Okay, that could be."
Shekar: "Now, shall we solve this case first?"
Meera: "Okay, sorry. Let's solve this first."
Shekar was looking at the files even more carefully. He had to find something to make sure Meera wouldn't have any more doubts.
Shekar found a pattern. He forgot that he had to distract her and found a good lead seriously.
Shekar: "Did you notice this? The three hospitals and one medical camp are all in this city. And mine, too... I mean, the camp is also here."
Shekar's inner voice: Phew, I almost said it was mine too. Thank goodness.
Meera: "So what does that mean?"
Shekar: "Yes, the person we're looking for is in this city and we'll find him here."
Meera: "It's okay, sir, you found a good lead."
Shekar: "Okay, enough praise. You go to the government hospital, and I'll go to the camp, okay? That way, we can find it faster."
Meera: "Okay, sir."
Shekar and Meera went in different directions. Shekar went to the hospital that conducted the medical camp and collected the details. There were signatures on a total of 29 files. There were no doctor's details because it was a medical camp, so they could have come voluntarily. And out of those 29 members, only 8 were alive. Many of them died there.
The reason Shekar sent Meera to the government hospital and came to the medical camp was to find the details and candidate list of the lab that conducted the experiment on him.
He immediately went and took the list of police selects. He checked how many were there on that day. Including him, there were a total of 20 members. When he searched for the candidates' details, he found that 16 were still alive. Compared to the other hospitals, this one had the most survivors.
Like, in the first hospital, zero.
In the diagnostic hospital, 5.
In the medical camp, 8.
And in the police lab, 16.
They were still waiting for the details from the government hospital where Meera went.
A long time passed, and Meera still hadn't called. So Shekar called her to find out.
Meera didn't pick up the call. Shekar called two times, but she didn't pick up.
Shekar got a little anxious. He immediately started for the government hospital. While he was on his way, he got a call from Meera.
Shekar: "Where are you? Why aren't you picking up the call?"
Meera: "Shekar, we got him."
Shekar: "What?! How do you know it's him?"
Meera: "I sent you a photo. Look at it."
Shekar opened his phone and checked the photo. "How did you find him? Okay, okay, forget that. Stay away from him. He might be dangerous."
Meera: "He surrendered himself. And I cuffed his hands. He couldn't escape."
Shekar: "Even if his hands are cuffed, stay away from him. We don't know what his powers are like. Don't do anything to him until I get there. I'm close by."
Shekar reached the government hospital. He took out his gun and walked carefully because anything could happen at any time.
Shekar went to Meera. A crowd of people had gathered around them out of curiosity about what was happening.
Shekar asked Meera, "Where is he?"
Meera had him cuffed and tied to a steel chair a little away from her.
Shekar was seeing the face of the person who gave the key again. He lifted his face and stared intensely at Shekar. Shekar was trembling inside. He wasn't a very brave person and was still scared.
Now that the key person has been found, let's see how many questions will be answered through him.
