In Faireton, the Barony of House De Cartasas, a series of events unfolded that risked the life of the heir, Klode De Cartasas, aged sixteen at the time. Strangely, on each occasion his life was saved by none other than his childhood friend and attendant, a commoner named Katalya, who was fifteen. Nobody thought much of it, but with every incident, Klode’s father, Kartel, head of the house, grew more suspicious. As fate would have it, the prediction of the future was a subject of interest for him. Given that the magical powers inhereted in his family were mostly agricultural, the existence of the Argentarius bloodline had sparked his curiosity from a young age. He sensed that Katalya might be a member of that bloodline. But how could one expose someone who knows what is to come? An idea struck him: could Katalya love Klode? It seemed plausible enough, she risked her life to save him. So the ultimate test, in Kartel’s mind, was to conspire to take his son’s life. If she acted again and revealed herself, that would be all the proof he needed. And so it came to be. Katalya, who had awakened her powers only three years earlier, could see fragments of the future but not the full picture. She fell right into Kartel’s trap. Once discovered, she feared the worst: becoming his prisoner, bound to his every whim. But his proposal was an unexpected one. Obsessed with bloodlines, Kartel had no personal ambitions. What he wanted was to secure his legacy. Katalya was only a tool. She would age and wither, and in fifty years the barony would return to its old ways. But if the next generations inherited her power, he could set them on the path to greatness. And Katalya would not refuse. After all, she loved his son. Kartel’s plan succeeded. Never in her dreams had Katalya imagined a future with Klode, but when the chance arose, she accepted it without hesitation. Having grown up an orphan, the warmth of a family and the love of the boy she cherished were all she had ever wanted. And so, at the ages of sixteen and seventeen, Klode and Katalya were married. And so they lived happily ever after…
But of course not. That was far from reality.
