After a bit more than an entire hour, the two guards have now finished inquiring about the inn, they deeply searched and found absolutely nothing really useful so they both decide to get out of this old and warm building.
As they walk in the streets of Ahulia, Cleyton seems a bit perturbed, he indeed wonders a lot about what the king will say since they found absolutely nothing, not even some hints about the said demon spending some time at the inn. While Cleyton is perturbed, Pierre is hiding some of the books he found earlier under his armour, it is taking a bit of space, so he is struggling to keep it hidden but Cleyton doesn't seem to notice it, or he isn't showing it at least.
While they are both walking back to the royal castle, Piere finally notices that Cleyton looks worried, so the brown haired elf asks :
-"What's wrong Cleyton ?"
The other guard takes some time before answering :
-"The king won't be happy about us finding absolutely nothing..."
Piere doesn't know how to react since Cleyton just said something true, the king will for sure not be happy when they'll come back to the royal castle. But Piere still tries to recomfort his colleague as they finally arrive in front of the castle's gates :
-"You are right, he won't be happy at all. But we can try to buy some time to find that demon. Don't you think so ?" Piere says that despite knowing the king won't tolerate any negotiations from any of the guards. But they'll still try it anyway. Piere keeps talking :"Can you go to the king first ? I have something to check really quickly, I'll join you later."
After walking through the castle’s gates, they end up in the palace’s main courtyard, the one with the castle in. They walk up some stairs to end up inside the palace, they enter first in the castle’s entry. Then they simply walk up numerous white marble stairs, their path will separate at the top of those stairs for the time Piere needs, it means not that long.
Piere goes in fact straight to an open arch right after the numerous stairs meanwhile Cleyton turns left to a long corridor with its walls full of paintings representing the kingdom of Ahulia, mostly beautiful sceneries.
But before he starts walking in that long corridor, Cleyton takes a quick look at the other guard, he notices his colleague directly going to the royal library and wonders why would a guard go there ? On what purpose ? Does he have to return some books ? A lot of simple questions like that come to his mind. He himself in fact isn't really familiar with books since he is busy protecting and keeping an eye on the kingdom. Actually, he never had a proper academic education since he started training as a guard from his teen years.
Cleyton is now walking in that long corridor, stressing a bit more every step he takes. He is now at the end of the corridor, in front of the huge door of the king's office. He loudly gulps his saliva before softly knocking at the door, in a frightened way.
While Cleyton is about to enter the king's office, Piere is now in the royal library, as he walks between the shelves he notices that the numerous books in the library seem really new and untouched. The ones having access to this library are the ones working in the castle, unfortunately none of them use it but the king. And for truth, the actual king never went in it, from what Piere sees and from how the books aren't damaged at all. It is true, this king never went in a library or has mysteriously stopped going in since exactly 80 years ago, when he stopped showing up in public as well.
Piere walks a bit more, to end up in a smaller room within the library, it seems like he knows this place pretty well or at least it is not his first time coming here. He closes the door of that smaller room right after getting in, he obviously wants some privacy to take a look at the books he took from the inn they were inquiring in.
The guard elf takes the books out of his armour, there are three books. He displays it in front of him on a polished wooden table, even the most useless furniture seems extremely expensive, the king loves to show that he has a lot of money. Piere looks at the three books in front of him, their title is "Everything about demons part.1", "Everything about demons pt.2" those books aren't that thick but the third one which is entitled "I once met a demon and it is how it went." is a bit thicker than the two other. That last one interests him the most, he is curious to see if demons are really that bad, they should obviously be since they are banned in the kingdom. But he has to seriously study every one of them to guess where the demon is hiding right now.
While Piere is cautiously studying the books one by one, Cleyton is now in the king's royal office, facing the king himself. But right when entering the office, the guard heard the old elf talking about some of his projects :
-"How can I get rid of those peasants for good ? I've already made all of the prices higher so only the rich can stay here... There must be another solution." Then he coldly talks to the guard who just entered the room :"I don't see any demons with you... Or perhaps this bastard is with Piere ?"
Cleyton lowers his head, looking at his own feet and mutters some few words :
-"I'm sorry your majesty, we found nothing..."
Despite his long and pointy ears, the king hasn't heard well what Cleyton just said so, even though he heard a bit of his sentence he asks for the guard to repeat, not really nicely :
-"What did you say ?"
Slowly upping his light coloured eyes on the other elf in front of him. Cleyton, as anyone would do, notices that the king is talking pretty angrily, so he knows that any words can anger him even more, so he has to be careful with what he's about to say. But for now, he just repeats exactly what he said.
-"I'm sorry your majesty, we found nothing." This time, he says it with more confidence and conviction.
The king, unhappy about what he just heard, takes a small knife that was laying down on the table then he doesn't hesitate to throw it in Cleyton's direction but fortunately for the guard, the old elf misses his target on purpose. The small weapon ends up in the huge wooden door, it is now stuck in it.
Cleyton instantly notices that the king threw that weapon exactly as a highly trained soldier would do. A question quickly comes to his mind, "Did the king get military training before becoming king ?" but Cleyton doesn't let any distraction come to his mind, he just stays still in front of the king's desk.
The old elf angrily exclaims :
-"What ? Did you really spend so long to find absolutely nothing ? I swear I'm going to end your life !"
The king gets up and slowly walks closer to the guard but before reaching him Cleyton talks. The elf guard actually makes up a lie, out of fear for his own life. He'd better accuse an innocent life rather than taking any consequences.
-"Well, in fact erm... we saw a suspicious person, hiding in the inn. I wanted to arrest them but Piere didn't let me and just decided to go away. By the way I'm pretty sure that this suspicious person was the demon we were looking for !"
Cleyton forces a bit on the lie to make the king believe it, which works because the king instantly stops walking, he thinks for a bit, trusting those words. Then the older one angrily says :
-"So it is his fault if the demon got away. If this person was really that demon bastard !"
Cleyton keeps on lying by adding :
-"I was so close to getting that person. But Piere insisted on going away from the building." The guard wants to make sure that he'll not be punished for not catching someone who wasn't even there.
-"Then I'll make sure he'll pay for that..." The king says, turning around to face his desk again, he walks to his comfortable and expensive looking chair to sit on it.
Cleyton is just standing in the room, not knowing if he can go away or not but since the king ordered him nothing he just stands still. The older elf notices the guard not moving, so he angrily exclaims, once more :
-"Why are you still standing here ?! Get away and keep looking for that demon bastard ! I have to work."
Cleyton finally gets out of the room, staring at the knife stuck in the wall while walking out. He finally gets out and sighs out of relief, nothing bad will happen to him but to his colleague... no one knows what the king will reserve for him. Maybe a simple downgrade on his job's place or maybe even killing him, the king would be capable of doing this, cold blooded.
Back in the library, Piere is still studying the books, he forgot to help the other guard confronting the king. He still has the time to read a few more pages from the first book before hearing someone walking around the door, then he decides to hide the books somewhere in the room before going to the door to open it. Cleyton is walking around the library, curiously looking at the books on the shelves and waiting for Piere. The brown haired elf addresses to Cleyton :
-"Oh.. Is it already over ? What did he say after knowing we found nothing ?"
Cleyton turns around to face the one who just spoke :
-"Erm.. He is just really disappointed in both of us." Cleyton lies again but this time his lie isn't completely false, there's a bit of truth in it. The king is indeed disappointed in Piere, after what the other guard told him.
Piere's eyebrows twitch, knowing that the other elf guard isn't telling the entire truth but he says nothing for now. He just reacts :
-"That's not good for us. We need to find that demon before the king starts to threaten us."
