It looked like there was no hope left. Until a similar annoying voice called out. Bursting through the doors was Lea. She ran in reading her bow.
"I cannot believe I am going to say thank you, Ark, you are here," Sahara said.
"I thought we were gonna die!" Timmy stated.
"A hero never backs down to help other people." Lea screeched.
"You do not have your hero license either, so you can not fight me without risking your chances." Masquerade jeered.
"She doesn't care about that. She is reckless and unfolding!" Sahara cheered.
"What is she going to do, shoot me!" Masquerade laughed.
"Yes, I am." Lea immediately shot an arrow directly at Masquerade, only for it to seem to fly through them.
Timmy created walls of ice to separate the knights. One knight lunged at him. Before the knight landed the hit, Sahara jumped in the way. She staggered before standing right back up.
"There are a few around the licensing rules. Because you attacked us first, Timmy was able to act as a hero without a team. As in official emergencies, heroes without teams are allowed to act. Civilians are allowed to defend themselves once they've been attacked, and if a civilian has been attacked. It escalates the situation to a referral from other heroes. Since Timmy actually has his license, he would also have a hero codex. They automatically produce a beacon when a civilian is attacked near a hero or if that hero is struggling. By hitting me, you just activated this distress beacon. Just a little knowledge I've picked up being the district attorney's niece." Sahara said.
"Now they cannot threaten our futures as heroes. I never even realized there were exceptions to the roles, not that I follow them in the first place!" Lea said.
"There are three of them, and they're three of us. Timmy, you fight the White Knight. Leah, you fight the Black Knight, and I'll take care of Masquerade!" Sahara yelled.
Timmy was the first to leap into combat using his training staff to produce icicles to impale. The White Knight's wing. Then the fight ended pretty quickly when a beam of water launched him out of one of the broken windows.
Lea, on the other hand, was really struggling because she was an archer fighting at close range. Due to this, she really didn't have many options to deal with the Black Knight other than dodging to get shots in. The Black Knight shot a beam of Dark energy at her Shadow magic. It was initially very painful, but she was able to draw light magic out to create beams of light to reduce the damage to her body. She then used her Harmony magic to use Water magic. To heal the damage he had sustained.
Meanwhile, well, Lea was struggling, and Sahara began fighting Masquerade. Like Lea, she was having a bit more issues fighting. This is because when she seemed to hit Masquerade, they just vanished. It was like Masquerade had the speed of light itself. Masquerade even began using light to create projections of themselves, making it almost impossible to figure out which version of Masquerade was real.
''Sahara, I think we need to bring the contrast up!" Lea yelled.
It took Sahara a while to figure out what Lea meant. Sahara got Masquerade into position as Leah got the Black Knight to attack her again, jumping out of the way, causing the beam of Shadow magic to hit the area full of Masquerade's clones. Because Masquerade's clones seem to be made based on light magic when Shadow magic hits the area. It made it clear which versions of Masquerade were clones because they glowed in the dark. This made it easy to spot. Which version of Masquerade was the real one? This allowed Sahara to use a wind slash to hit Masquerade. Sahara and Lea wrongfully fought. The fight was over at this point because Masquerade was injured. Instead of retreating, Masquerade just healed all of the damage with a small glimmer of light. Neither of them knew what to do. They were struggling against the Black Knight and Masquerade. Only for Ice Spears to go straight through the Black knight's singular Wing, and a pulse of water launches him out of another broken window by Timmy.
"Now we just have to finish beating you!" Timmy said.
"I've been playing nice, but now I think it's time to think twice. With horror and illusion, I bring confusion. Bring back the horror of the past for now. Your nightmares will forever last. Glimmers of the deaths of heroes long at last. Bring despair and rot the core because you dared to ask for more." Masquerade rhymed.
The pearl around Masquerade's neck began to glow like a black light once again. The room around them began to spin as the twisted light began to win. They began to hear blood-curdling screams. Not of Masquerades' voice but the voice of several of the heroes in the Hall of Fame. As images of the deaths of several of the members of the Hall of Fame flashed before them. As if they were brought back to the very moments of their deaths. An image of Naomi appeared clad in armor as they heard her horrific screams as her body shattered like crystal.
"You don't know what real heroes are. Naomi sacrificed everything to make this world worth living in, only for you. Horrible wretches to worship the very system that caused her demise. Now you will be punished by being forced to look at it with your own eyes. The pain that rot those who have long been forgot. Now you'll face the cost of worshiping the Ark dragons cross." Masquerade laughed painfully as if they were negatively affected by the images that they were showing.
