The thumping bass of the club still echoed faintly in Anya’s ears as she stumbled out into the crisp night air, the neon glow of the exit signs fading behind her. Her friends trailed behind, laughing and joking as if nothing had happened, but Anya’s mind was elsewhere—stuck on Adrian.

He had said something that cut sharper than any insult she’d ever heard, a calm, almost indifferent dismissal that made her blood boil. She had tried to laugh it off, tried to pretend she didn’t care, but the truth was, she did—and it made her furious. Furious at him, at herself, and at the way this night had spiraled out of control.

Adrian’s figure appeared beside her in the shadowed street, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his jacket, his expression unreadable. The way he looked at her—cold, detached—was enough to make her stomach twist.

“I don’t get you,” he said finally, his voice low, measured, almost bored. “You act like nothing matters, like the world revolves around your parties and your games… but then you expect people to care when it’s their turn to play?”

Anya opened her mouth, ready to fire back, but the words died in her throat. She wanted to yell, to mock him, to make him feel the sting she felt—but she also knew that wouldn’t fix anything.

Instead, she turned sharply, her heels clicking against the pavement. “You think you understand me?” she snapped. “You don’t know anything about me!”

Adrian didn’t respond. He simply shook his head and walked in the opposite direction, leaving her standing in the cold night, her friends’ laughter fading behind her.

For the first time in a long while, the party felt meaningless. The lights, the music, the endless chaos—all of it had led here: a moment of confrontation, a clash neither of them wanted but both needed. And now… they were enemies.

Anya walked alone toward the city streets, the neon signs of the club fading behind her, replaced by the quiet hum of cars and distant streetlights. Somewhere deep down, a part of her regretted the words she hadn’t said, the truths she hadn’t revealed—but it was too late. Adrian was gone, and with him, any chance of pretending tonight hadn’t ended in disaster.
