Adrian sat at the small desk in his apartment, the morning sunlight cutting across the wooden surface. His phone buzzed for the third time that morning, but he ignored it — probably another pointless notification. He was too busy rereading the notes he had taken after the interview, replaying every question, every answer.
Then, the fourth buzz came. This time, the name flashing on the screen made his heart kick.
Unknown Number – The Regal Hotel
He swallowed hard and picked up.
“Hello?”
“Good morning, Mr. Adrian.” The voice was crisp, professional. “This is the hiring office from The Regal Hotel. We’re pleased to inform you that after reviewing your interview, the board has decided to move forward. You’ve been offered the position of Acting Managing Director, pending your acceptance.”
Adrian leaned back in his chair, stunned. “You’re serious?”
“Yes, sir. We were impressed with your vision and leadership. If you’re willing, we’d like you to start this coming Monday.”
A slow smile spread across his face. “I accept. Absolutely.”
“Excellent. We’ll send you all the details by email. Congratulations, Mr. Adrian.”
When the call ended, Adrian let the phone drop onto the desk. He rubbed his face with both hands, relief flooding through him. Finally, something was turning in his favor. Finally, a chance to prove himself.
He didn’t know the threads he had just pulled himself into — the hotel’s empire, the family behind it, and the girl whose path was destined to crash into his again.
