It was the first day of school and Jiro was at a backdoor of Blackverde Highschool. It was 3:43AM and had tried to get this done a few days sooner, with no luck. The door was the only one that he could find that was out of line-of-sight. Thankfully, there was no one camped out in front of it this time. So, wearing a dark grey hoodie and sweatpants, disposable gloves, a mask and grungy, black sneakers he picked the lock and snuck inside, closing the door behind him.
Once inside he let his eyes adjust.
Pupils dilated all the way open. Tapetum lucidum caught the light, giving his eyes a 'night shine' glow as the rest of him blended into the darkness.
Ducking low he made his way through the hallways to the Janitor's 'office' on the top floor, specifically avoiding the elevators. Thankfully, the key box was unlocked, which saved him time. Searching through, Jiro grabbed the Supervisor's set and set off for the basement.
Contrary to what most people think the overnight janitors don't stay the entire night. Once they had all left he was in the clear for about three hours.
Except for the alarm.
Keeping a grip on the keys to prevent them from jangling, Jiro moved at an easy 49 kilometres an hour until he reached the basement. That was where he slowed down and proceeded with a lot more caution.
Sneaking down a precarious flight of stairs made of 2x4s Jiro looked around until he spotted what he had been sent to verify.
There was a hole in the basement and sitting at a workbench of twisted biotech was... Something. It was thick-bodied, with incredibly skinny, immensely long limbs that could bend backwards. Crumpled up wings and an organic cord plugged into the workbench were growing out of it's back.
On the workbench was one of the missing students from 2 years ago.
Suspicion confirmed and knowing that he could do nothing to save them, Jiro slowly moved up the stairs backwards and safely exited. He put the keys back and left the school at a run, ducking past the Police who had responded to the school's alarm.
They never spotted him.
