She woke up at home, on the living room couch, her arm bandaged and the room completely dark, much to her confusion. Looking around, she spotted the glow-in-the-dark clock said. According to the hands it was almost midnight. Sitting up, Etsu looked around. She'd always had good night vision, so she spotted her dad sleeping in his favourite chair pretty easily.
“Dad?” She asked tentatively.
He woke, his head coming up in that eerily smooth way he had of moving.
He unnerved people and she could sort of understand why, but he was still just 'Dad' to her.
“Baby girl...” He said, quietly relieved, “You passed out at school. Apparently you beat up some people attacking the transfer students with a knife. You need to call for help wh-”
“They would have died.” She said quietly, “There wasn't time- It wasn't a normal attack.”
“I see.” He said, expression shifting in a way that she couldn't read.
He almost swore, but refrained at the last moment and said instead, “I'll talk to the other parents about the violence.”
She thanked him, relieved and drifted back to sleep.
Mr Ashliford watched with a pained expression, knowing that talking to the other parents would likely be pointless unless he can get the, to take active measure to reduce the violence. For the moment he focused on rehearsing the answers to questions that she was inevitably going to have when he told her tomorrow, over breakfast, that he would be training her.
How did he tell his daughter why he knew the things that he knows without shattering their innocent idea of who he is?
He decided that, for the time being, he would tell her some of it, but not all of it just yet. The full story would be a bit much for anyone to process and she already had a lot more to deal with than she should.
