Syllable of the Heart

Tagalog Surnames Meanings

Tagalog Surnames Meanings

Oct 05, 2025

Like I promised, I will tell you the meaning of their Tagalog surnames in English.

Kara Sinag: Sinag means ray of light.
Inigo Hangin: Hangin means wind.

I haven't written a new chapter for both "Syllable of the Heart" and "There, At Every Firework" yet. I have been feeling a bit stressed out lately. But I do post on Instagram. My IG handle is: val_eve_diestro

I can't write, but I can post hehe.

And if you want to read more of my stories, check out my Wattpad: ValerieEveDiestro.

Kara Sinag has always found comfort in borrowed books from her school library, drinking soda from a not so functioning vending machine, and listening to the purrs of her cat, Whiskers.

She’s never been good at saying what she feels. Especially not to Inigo Hangin, the dreamy boy with hair like ocean waves and a wave-shaped earring.

They’ve barely spoken, but they share a connection. From the same library books, to the same bench near the barely functioning vending machine, and even having their names close to each other written on the books they’ve read.

Then, during an unexpected storm, Kara stumbles upon a forgotten poetry journal hidden in the library’s back room. On a whim, she writes down words she’s too afraid to say aloud, words meant for Inigo. The next day, someone writes back, answering her. The handwriting is strangely just like Inigo’s.

As she goes back and forth with the person writing words that speak to her heart, Kara begins to fall deeper. Yet what will Kara do when Inigo suddenly announces he is leaving to study music abroad? Time is running out.

Now Kara must make a choice. Will she keep her feelings a secret, or find the courage to speak the syllables of her heart before he is gone for good?

And what if it is not Inigo at all who has been writing back? What if it has been someone else all along? What will Kara do?
