Chapter 5

Ellie could tell these people were bad news, especially when one of them started making some kind of fire bomb in their hands. Ellie ran.

“Anna! Come on!” Ellie yelled. She grabbed Carter by the arm, finally getting him out of his trance.

“What are the Controllers doing here! They haven’t been spotted in years!” Carter yelled.

“Alright, who are the controllers!” Ellie felt Anna’s spirit flow into her, Ellie guessed she was sticking around a while.

“They’re an evil cult, sworn to trying to ‘control’ the multiverse. When really they're trying to destroy it! The MDSC usually tries to fight them, but with you being… You, that might be difficult.” Carter ran through the trail they’d taken before, “They must’ve felt you traveling into this realm and decided you weren’t supposed to be here, I mean obviously you're not but whatever!”

Anna started talking to her, ‘The controllers have been around for centuries, they have said to have sworn allegiance with the Master Knight but there was never such an agreement.’

Ellie nodded, “Alright, evil cult, monsters, quests, and life-threatening moments. Sounds about right to be an RPG video game.” They ran out into the fields, Ellie stopped and turned, waiting to see if they’ll follow. Suddenly a shard of glass sprung from the forest, Ellie immediately created some kind of shield of pureness. Protecting her. “Yup! They really don’t like me!” Ellie instinctively took a hold of the shield and it floated down to her forearm. “Is there anywhere we can go besides the village to hide from them?” She yelled to Carter.

He didn’t talk for a bit, but nodded. “We have to go east, to the rocks. There we might be able to lose them.” Then he looked to Ellie’s arm, “Since when could you do that?”

Ellie smiled, then immediately blocked an incoming shard of glass. “Don’t ask questions, just run!” They continued to the east, and eventually the ground turned to solid rock, and Ellie saw the sea in the distance.

‘Hey Ellie, I know it’s probably not the best time but I think I might be able to give you magic.’ Anna said.

Ellie nodded, “Ya, actually it’s probably the best time to do that.” She looked behind them to see a huge group of people chasing them, “What you got?”

‘You’ll only be able to have one at a time, but I think I can give you any spirit spell at a certain time.’

Ellie was surprised, “Perfect, just give it to me.” Ellie felt a surge of energy go through her and she immediately used it, her body felt weird then it multiplied. She duplicated herself, then she tried again. There were now three Ellie’s all running alongside Carter.

“Alright, this is weird. What did you just do?” Carter asked.

The three Ellies smiled then said in unison, “Anna gave me a spell to clone myself, cool right?”

Carter’s eye twitched, “Kinda creepy.” He looked behind them, Ellie did the same. The Controllers were still right on their tails, Ellie felt panic, fear, and worry building in her. Then she felt something she’d felt before.

“Carter, have you ever travelled through dimensions?” Ellie asked.

His eyes widened, “Please don’t say that’s your plan.”

Ellie nodded, “It is, but we gotta fight some of these guys first.” Ellie turned around with the three of her, and pulled out her shortsword. “Carter! Quit running and start fighting!”

Carter looked back, and stopped. “I think I'd like to be a watcher and not a fighter!”

Ellie created a spirit blast in one of her duplicate’s hands, “Come on and fight already!”

Carter nodded, “Coming, can’t believe I thought you were a newbie.” He grumbled, he pulled out two daggers. Seemingly hidden under his jacket.

Ellie saw the oncoming Controllers, and nodded. “Alright we got this, right Anna?”

There was a kind of sigh, ‘Honestly this is quite amusing. I wouldn’t be too mad about all of you dying, you're quite fun to be with. So I guess either way I win!’

Ellie shook her head, “Thanks for the encouragement.” Ellie felt a new spell come from Anna.

‘Didn’t say I wasn’t gonna help you though.’ Anna said.

Ellie smiled, “Alright, here’s the plan. We fight them off a bit, then run while they regroup. I’ll try and open another portal to, um… Well, I’ll definitely be able to open a portal. I think.”

Carter looked at one of her, “You have problems with decisions don’t you?” Ellie nodded slightly.

The Controllers were now only ten feet away, but they stopped. One of them stepped up, “Ellie Smith, you have been charged with use of dimensional magic unprecedented to the world. You have been sentenced to death, what do you plead?”

Ellie just stuck out her tongue, “Come on!” She said, “Is this a fight or a court case?”

That seemed to get the one in front angry, or at least aggravated. “Very well, death it is!” The Controllers all charged, there were about twelve of them. And Ellie started to doubt her ability to fight them all. Ellie then felt a strange sensation in her, like her whole body knew exactly what to do. She charged in. Even before Carter, and rolled into a lunge. She cut multiple Controllers before one of them was even able to cut her. Once one did, Ellie cast her pure wave spell. Blasting back all her opponents, they fell everywhere. Some stayed down, and others tried to get up. Then they heard the roar.

A giant explosion appeared at the forest's edge, and a huge draconic-like creature emerged. It flew high, then dove straight in their direction. Ellie turned to Carter.

“You better not have gotten hurt, because we have to go!” She ran for the rocks once more, if she was able to actually open another portal she really had no idea of what dimension it would take them to. She didn’t even know what dimensions she could go to. Carter got up and started running with her.

“It probably wasn’t a good idea to go into the draconic's territory.” Carter said.

Ellie looked at him, “You knew that that thing lived in there!” 

Carter was breathing heavily, but didn’t answer. Ellie just focused on the growing energy that helped her travel dimensions, getting stronger. Ellie pointed to a cluster of rocks and jumped onto it, and over. Carter seemed to follow. Ellie thought that maybe the dragon hadn’t seen them, and collapsed to the ground.

Carter nodded, “Ya, I knew. I was hoping to run into it, maybe get some good materials from it too. I’m sorry, I almost got us killed.”

Ellie shook her head, “Not yet you haven’t. Now listen, I have an idea. I can feel my power gaining, if I’m able to I can open a portal. I need a bit more magic before that though.”

Carter shook his head, “I got nothing to give, all my mana is gone.”

Elie smiled, “I wasn’t talking about you.” Ellie looked back to the dragon, “What do you think Anna?”

Anna appeared next to Ellie, ‘It would be a good idea, but hard to pull off. Do you think you can do it?’

Ellie nodded, “I can.”

Carter was shaking his head, “What are you two talking about?”

“We’re talking about if I could knock out that dragon and use its energy to get us out of here.” Ellie said to Carter.

Carter shook his head, “You couldn’t do that, you're not powerful enough… right?”

Ellie shrugged, “I mean, who knows, maybe if I’m close enough to it. With Anna I was able to do it, so maybe I can do it with a dragon.”

Carter threw his hands up, “You know this kind of thing is the kind of stuff you should really tell people, not everyone’s in your head.” Carter waved his hands around, “So what do you want me to do then?”

Ellie shrugged, “Not sure, are you a good distraction?”
