I honestly think this would throw Cliff for a loop! He likes to flirt, and obviously likes Father Eugene a lot...but its not something he sees as achievable. I think by this point he’s pretty sure that Eugene is interested in guys, but honestly a lot of Cliffs more overt flirting was when he was very drunk (the neck nuzzle and the ‘I'll do it for you, not for God’ moment, the Christmas party drink sharing) and he's a lot less bold sober, because he's afraid he'll cross a line and have no excuse. He doesn't want to jeopardise the closeness he's been afforded. He doesn't actually realise how much of an effect he's having on poor Father Eugene, and definitely didn't expect this. He still can't be sure, though ;). What if Eugene was just out of breath or lost for words! What then!
