In the world of Sequoia, there are four types of contracts (magical contracts, non-magical contracts, human contracts and magical beast contracts) and two types of binding (magical beast bindings and human bindings.)
Non-magical contracts
used by small businesses that do not have much money.
They function the same as contracts in the real world and can be used in the same way.
These are enforced through the law and unless one person takes the other to court they will not face any repercussions for breaking the contract.
Magical contracts
contracts that are made by a guild that specialise in creating magical objects utilising a mix of personal magic, general magic and natural magic (the magic that can be found in the world that is not influenced by personal/general or primal magic (when it existed).
These contracts are used by large and wealthy businesses for a variety of things, such as partnerships, trading and employment etc.
They are used by large businesses rather than small businesses as they are expensive to buy. It is also used in courts for the witnesses, prosecutors and defendants.
These contracts are used because the punishments for breaking the contract can result in whatever both parties agree to, for example death of the person who breaks the contract if that was agreed on.
In order for magical contracts to work the people need to infuse their personal magic into the contract.
If one or both people want to get out of the contract, such as if they want to quit a job, then they need to notify the other party and drop a bit of blood on their own contract.
Magical beast contracts
contracts that can be made between either a person(s) and a magical beast(s) (the person is the contractor).
Both parties must be consenting otherwise the contract will not be formed.
It is impossible to break the contract unless both parties are consenting.
It is impossible to go against what they agreed to in the contract.
Human contracts
human contracts are between either two or more people or a magical beast and a human (with the magical beast being the contractor).
Like with magical beast contracts, all parties need to be consenting.
it is impossible to break the contract unless both parties are consenting.
It is impossible to go against what they agreed to in the contract.
Magical beasts binding
a forceful contract between humans and magical beasts (the human being the binder).
These contracts are illegal and although most people hate binding magical beasts, there are a few people who use these to force a magical beast to work for them.
Magical beasts are also able to force a binding between themselves and other magical beasts, although this is incredibly rare.
The binder is able to do whatever they like with the binded and the binded must do whatever they are told to do.
The only way to get out of the contract is if the binder wants to or if the binding is broken through a specific tool that can break it.
When a magical beast has been bound there will be a mark on the forehead that is in the shape of the either the anemone flower (represents, in this instance, bad luck and death), monkshood (represents treachery, danger and cautions) or the tansy flower (represents immortality, war, death, hatred and resistance). Depending on the reason for the binding the mark will look like one of those three flowers.
if the binded tries to do something against the command of the binder, a massive shock of pain will travel through the body rendering them unable to move.
Human binding
Human binding is like magical beast binding but instead of the human being the binder the binder is the magical beast.
For magical beasts, these are heavily frowned upon but there are no punishments for using them, however, the fear of being isolated is heavy as they need to interact with other magical beasts to live. As a result very few have ever used human binding.

I may or may not have forgotten to prewrite this chapter, which is why it's released late, so apologies for that. As for the main story (Sequoia), the chapter is taking a while to post because I am pretty much completely rewriting the chapter so it's taking longer than I thought because pretty much everything, at least in the way that it's written is different. Hopefully it'll be ready to post soon though.
