Dune Creepers are a chitinous desert arachnid scavenger. Their nature is to unceremoniously devour whatever is found lying dead on the surface of the vast 'sandscape'. Today however, though it is their right and their instinct, the swarm of creepers keeps it distance, and will not approach the area where Abed and Aelin fell.
