Nathan woke up the next day still slightly dizzy from how powerful the tranquilizer he uses truly is. He glanced around the room and looked around slightly confused at the lack of bodies on the ground... Brooks walked inside the bedroom and looked down at him since Nathan was still sitting on his bed. Brooks affirmed that he had hidden the bodies so that they wouldn't have to file paperwork today. Ahh...The good old corrupt Brooks...
Nathan let out a small chuckle before grabbing Gabriel's hand to stand up from his bed easier.
Nathan stayed in his bloody and roughened clothes as they both entered the car to head toward the cafe down the street. They quickly arrived, and Nathan got out first to get the two of them a seat as Gabriel Brooks was left alone to find a place to park his car. Nathan sat down at the back of the cafe; he seemed to write down something on a small piece of sticky note. But what did he write?
Brooks walked in the cafe soon later and sat down in front of Nathan, but as he went to speak to him, Nathan stood up and walked over to the cashier and handed him the note before coming back to sit down in front of Brooks. Silent. Nathan seemed to wait for the cashier to walk out of the cafe before starting to speak.
'' I have something to confess... " Nathan said slowly in a cold and calculated manner.
Brooks's eyes widened a tad bit as he heard the words echoing in his brain as it was slowly registering to him. What...? What did he possibly have to confess... Nathan glanced at the clock before smiling gently before leaning forward next to Brooks here to whisper gently in his ear, his voice just like a soft, gentle flame in a dark room, simply dancing.
''I'm a serial killer. ''
Brooks went to stand up from his chair; the confession felt unreal—he must be dreaming...but as he went to stand up, a huge sound echoed through the outside of the cafe. He glanced at the window, which was now covered in blood. Brooks took a small step backward to the other window and froze at the sight before him. A burned corpse...the cashier? Wha... Brooks's eyes widened before looking back at Nathan and grabbing his collar, pulling him up to his face.
"What the hell did you fucking do, Ashcroft?!"
Nathan let out a small, gnarly chuckle, which made Gabriel drop him and take a step back in almost disgust before Ashcroft let out the final number to his countdown.
"Five...out of...five"
Brooks froze in the middle of the cafe as his mind flashed back to the calls he had gotten about the multiple deaths last night... Brooks couldn't believe his eyes... Nathan did not invite him here for a drink. He wanted to show off his last kill... Jesus Christ...
Nathan smiled as he walked past Brooks, who quickly followed him out of the cafe. He quickly grabbed the cashier's phone and Jace Varlen's phone and dialed up the contact named as Voss. The phone was picked up by Lucian Voss in the flesh. Nathan simply let out a small warning that he was coming after him right now before smashing the phone against the bloodied glass of the cafe. Brooks tried to stop Nathan, but Ashcroft had already run back to the parking and had gotten into Gabriel's car, and he...started it? Huh? Brooks patted his pocket as his eyes widened in realization. Nathan had fucking taken his keys! When?! Fuck! He had to stop Nathan before he could kill someone else!
Nathan knew he was on limited time as he ran down the highway to reach Voss's mansion, but he also felt a kind of relief... He was going to find his wife... She was going to be safe! This almost brought a smile to his face, but the gate of the mansion appearing in his face made him go back to his cold nature almost immediately. He never slowed down the car; he was as reckless as ever. He chose to crash the car right through the gate and the guards who stood there, killing them immediately.
He slowly opened the door, making sure there were no other guards around him as he climbed the mansion's stairs. He glanced at an open window and tossed a full bottle of his tranquilizer into it before putting on his potato mask, which was bloody and dirty from his past crimes.
The front door was unlocked...strange... He slowly walked inside and froze at the sight before him. Piles of bones just laid out on the ground, and in the middle of the pile... a picture of his wife... Agatha... Oh god... He stumbled backward and out of the front door...trying to assess what the sight in front of him even meant... But before he even could fully process it. He noticed the backdoor fling open. Voss! Nathan quickly dashed after him; he would not let this bastard go! He was going to pay for killing his wife! As Voss heard Nathan approach, he went to turn around to pull his gun out and shoot him, but the Flame Whisperer had been way closer than he expected. Nathan slapped the gun right out of his hands as he pushed Voss right through the protection around his glass balcony. They both fell about a meter and crashed onto a rock, which made both of their bodies stumble away as they both winced in pain from the shock.
They both slowly stood up, but it seemed that the tranquilizer that Nathan had thrown into the mansion earlier was starting to take its toll on Voss quite quickly. Nathan grinned under his mask as he slowly walked toward the stumbling and dazed Voss before grabbing him by the neck and starting to choke him.
However, before he could finish him off, a gunshot was heard in the air. A warning shot...by none other than Gabriel Brooks himself...seems like he stole a car to get here faster.
Nathan glared at Brooks and ordered him to mind his goddamn business as he was about to avenge his wife. Brooks's eyes widened as he glanced at the broken glass railing and understood immediately what Nathan had found inside the house...and unlike some other novels where the detective will try and tell the killer to not finish his goal... Brooks lowered his gun and simply watched as Nathan snapped Voss's neck in a sharp noise that filled the air.
Justice had finally been fully served.
Nathan glared at Brooks, wondering if he was about to arrest him, but to his surprise...Brooks offered him to cover this all up and get him a ticket to have a boat take him to the ring continent...
Nathan, of course...did not refuse.
Brooks escorted him up to the boat that Craine had used to escape him previously and paid for his ticket. Brooks walked away without looking back at Nathan Ashcroft's boat once. He knew that letting him go would only cause more trouble... But...he didn't know why, but this felt like the best choice for him.
A few years later
Gabriel Brooks
He was currently on a boat toward Marai Island to finally put an end to Craine... But a loud crashing sound was heard in the night sky. The sky seemed to split itself open as two giant stars danced across the sky almost in a ritualistic battle against each other. Suddenly, they seemed to fuse together in a single beam of light and crashed right onto Marai Island.
Thus Begun The Second Loop of the Red Gem
As the boat arrived, Brooks got out and was met with...monsters...people were coughing and crying blood...some of them seemed to have mutated and seemed to be able to get powers?... What the fuck was happening... Brooks ran to safety with a bunch of other people who seemed to not be infected by whatever the star had just done. They got down into a bunker and contacted the ring continent, which only told them to close down the island so the infection would not spread...as their only mission now...was to hunt down the infected and get rid of them... Brooks was confused as hell... He knew one thing...His mission was now not to put criminals behind bars... But to hunt and kill.
Ellis Craine and Rowan Craine
The Lovebirds had just gotten out of their work shift that had been given by their boss, Syndrielle, when the sky tore open right in front of them. The impact happened right there...a few meters in front of them... They both rushed down the crater and found something more than interesting... It wasn't stars that had fallen... But a woman... Rowan picked her up as they both headed back to their laboratory so that they could figure out what made her so damn special...and perhaps they would be able to make more people like her.
Syndrielle and Kallius
The two scientists who were superiors of Ellis Craine and Rowan Craine, the two lovebirds. They were both directly exposed to the infection and immediately suffered from its impact and gained powers almost instantly... Syndrielle, due to the fact she loved to research matter, seemed to gain the ability to control Black Matter. As for Kallius, his obsession over time let him become a sort of vessel to an outer god...The All-Seeing Eye. The Outer God, whose role was to simply watch humanity's past, present, and future.
Harry Octopi
Just like the married scientists, Harry was granted powers due to the infection...he seemed to now be able to master the concept of illusions...
Simon Flamebird
Trapped in the bunker with Brooks as the infection happened... He just wished he could have been guarding his hometown, where the two giant apartments stood as the cataclysmic event happened.
Sylvia Voss
Sylvia was born on the night of the battle of the star...born from the wife of Lucian Voss, who had left for Marai Island after finding out about her husband's death.
