Clark gets rid of one last piece of debris. The biggest one so far. Nonchalantly at first, Clark operates under the same tactic; grab a large piece; break a bigger piece with his fists and give the smaller rocks to other employees.
That’s until a bunch of them fall into another hole…on the floor.
“Hey Geneviève, can you come out here please?”
“Coming in hot!”, exclaims the dashing blondie, happy to be called by her hero.
She arrives at his side and her expression changes instantly to reflect the severity of the situation.
it’s a pretty big hole. They both look alarmed. Inside lies torn up pieces of papers and a few strongboxes dismantled. There are even computers broken into pieces. A few employees are startled by this, Clark especially. Not one employee knew there was that much equipment underneath them. Somebody dug the ground to gain access to top secret stuff.
near the hole, Geneviève picks up a piece of paper on the ground.
“What in the world…It’s written in old Atmoscian.” she exclaims. “Hold on… Œil pour œil, dans la plaie du vent.”
This peaks Clark’s curiosity. All this time she knew the old Atmoscian language.
“Do you know the significance behind the words?”, he asks with a little too much pep in his step.
“Hum, not really. It doesn’t help that it's poetry. I understand old Atmoscian in conversations, but not when it’s going all philosophical on me.”, she admits, embarrassed. She also hesitates before declaring a theory out loud, but Clark is attentive to what she’s saying.
“Look, if Tayla’s suspicions were to be true, and it was indeed a mutant that got here… then a second hole that leads to where the super duper important documents are hidden? Sounds like the work of a mutant to me.”
Clark breathes in and out, a quiet exasperation leaving his body. He’s shocked, but deep down he should have seen it coming. Genevieve’s conclusion sounds plausible in this case.
“Alright, if you can note all of this down in a notepad and give it to me when you can, that would be amazing”, requests Clark.
“Wait wait wait! We’re not investigators you know? Pretty sure that part of the process should be left to the cops. At the very least give them that information!”
“And wait for them to just throw all of it in a dumpster fire? Like the cops are gonna do a good job with that information. They would have already found the key to the problem years ago if they were that efficient." criticises the young man.
“So who else should we go to? Tayla?”
“Precisely. The police wouldn’t understand the consequences of finding something like this. On top of that, this will be a good time to ask her some more complex questions. We’ll let her decide on what to do with that, as the leader of these archives.”
