The girl woke up in the IT hospital bed days later. Her name was Anastasia Lee.
She recognized Jamie. Otherwise, she was a shy and quiet girl.
As soon as they got her information, Kiera had Pierce contact her parents. She wanted to get ahead of any kidnapping accusations, even with a licensed medical wing. Others had sued I.T. for less. They were contacted after a series of tests were run, in case the girl was contagious or going to be dead within the next few hours.
Kiera stared at the results Dr. Silva and Jake had reported. The girl was healthy, well, and had no sign of contagious infection. She had antibodies.
“So Dr. Heissman isn't lying.” Jake said. All the interceptors from the reconnaissance mission had been gathered in the I.T. briefing room.
“Yep. She’s telling the truth about the immunity, and trust me, the power package is very much included.” A tall black woman with sophisticated hair and eccentric fashion said. She was the Purpleheart interceptor pilot, Amber Cat.
“And that might be the danger.” Kiera observed.
Maya’s breaths were shallow, her thoughts foggy.
She was lying down.
She saw flashes of red hair. Red and silver clothes. Pink hair.
Hands moved her. Her chest ached.
Machines beeped beside her.
Her mind drifted in and out, catching fragments of voices.
“…her immunity is slowing the infection…” a woman murmured.
“…makes her valuable to the Reds…” another voice added.
A weary sigh followed.
Then a long stretch of darkness.
Until a sudden rush of energy rippled through her, every cell tingling.
A sting of antiseptic hit her nose.
Then deep, unfamiliar language surrounded her. A familiar cackle.
The pinch of a needle. Someone injected her with something.
Her consciousness ebbed, and the last thing she registered was a red, clawed hand reaching for her before everything went black.
