I still recall when our lives began to walk
They drifted away, leaving the ghosts, in that moment
Two girls swinging together on the playground
But the girl was drawn towards the light I expected: Music and Missions
And the other, who was really a boy, ran chasing infinity
Their paths were like yarn that had been split through the center
See, there was a time where I might’ve thought: This was forever
But. Time had other plans, and I soon forgot to care
Other people were like growing flames, I was a dying star
At a point when I felt I was growing cold but surrounded by fire
I’d smile, the rare chance of seeing her glow
When we’d pass in the hallway
Or I’d see a post online
And though I have little idea how she did, I hoped it was eternal
I don’t know what you do these days
But sometimes I think of the old times
Back when we’d write each other letters
Despite living less than five minutes
A walk away, then a walk back
Time knows us well but now we can’t say the same
Of each other. But that’s okay, and maybe it will always be that way
Perhaps,
In the darkest of days
Or the brightest of nights
When flames didn’t spread out so much
Or some stars didn’t die out
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps…
In another lifetime we could’ve stayed close friends
Only we did not
But. Perhaps, that’s okay too
