I was spending lunch alone. I didn't want to talk to anyone right now. I wanted to claw at my brain to get the thoughts of Marco away. He was so infuriating, but I wanted to be back at his house playing video games with him. I couldn't focus on my homework, so I put it away. God, he was so-
"Hey, can I sit?" Marco asked, as if my thoughts had summoned him. I gestured toward the seat across from me, and he sat. He was fidgeting with the string of his hoodie. "Here's your chili, and I have something else for you," Marco continued.
I took the chili from him. "Well, what is it?" I asked. He handed me a small blue velvet bag. I gently opened the bag and pulled a small pin out. It was an extremely rare Monsters of the Valley pin. I carefully put it in the bag. "I can't take this. Do you know how valuable this is?" I asked.
"Take it. I have two of them. I, um, I'm sorry. Can we go back to how it was before everything got all awkward yesterday?" Marco asked, refusing to look me in the eyes.
"I'm sorry too," I responded. Marco looked up. "You were right. I was taking out my issues on you. I'm just so confused. I thought that I could just ignore my feelings, but I can't anymore. I don't know what my sexuality is anymore. I mean, I like women, but I also might like guys. This is just all so confusing and overwhelming," I ranted.
"It's not easy. You're right about that. Is there anything I can do to help?" Marco asked. A thought of Marco kissing me flashed in my head. Oh. Oh, no. Oh, absolutely not. All of my confusing feelings for Marco suddenly made sense now. "Jackson?"
"I want to look at the stars again!" I blurted out, not knowing what to say. I took a few breaths. Will you come with me?" I asked.
"Of course. We can go after working on our project tonight if you want," Marco responded, pulling at the string of his hoodie. His hoodie looked so warm. It would probably be big on me. God, what is wrong with me? "Jackson? You keep zoning out."
"Sorry. Yeah, watching the stars tonight is good. Let's do that. See you tonight," I responded, scrambling to stand up. When walking away, I ruffled Marco's brown hair, making it fall in front of his soft brown eyes. Why the heck did I do that? Oh, I'm definitely not straight.
What happens when Jackson and Marco are assigned partners for the final project? Jackson and Marco could not be more different. Jackson is popular, hilarious, and great at sports. Despite this, Jackson's grade is terrible. He needs to do well on this final project. Marco is sarcastic, openly gay, and he does not like Jackson, but he wants to keep his good grades. Will they be able to set aside their differences to get a perfect grade? What happens when they discover they share a favorite video game and decide to do their project on that?
