I've got nothing against mainstream anime/manga. I like quite a few, myself. I'm most certainly not going to say that I watch things people have never heard of. However, when people tell me I'm not a real otaku or something because I don't like the most popular stuff, well... It gets under my skin a bit. Best thing to do is just start talking about the shows you do like... Then, they shall see the beauty and variety of anime!
