Chapter 13

Chapter 13

Dec 17, 2025

The carriage passed through the main gates of Britain, the pulsating capital of innovation and power. The stone streets were clean, guarded by soldiers in gleaming armor. Technological towers mixed with ancient constructions in an architectural harmony that spoke volumes about the nation: tradition and future side by side.

Mateo and Nai watched in silence through the windows. The smell of the air was different here—more metallic, controlled. Even the ambient Ki seemed more disciplined, as if conditioned to follow rules.

"This place reeks of contained power," muttered Mateo.

"Reeks of hypocrisy," corrected Nai, coldly.

They were received by royal soldiers and guided through the castle's labyrinthine corridors. The floor was white marble, adorned with red carpets bearing the crest of Britain: a three-eyed wolf surrounded by golden gears.

Finally, they reached the throne room.

The King of Britain awaited them. Tall, imposing, with gray eyes that seemed to see more than they should. He wore a simple, formal suit, no crown—a sign of pragmatism—but his gaze carried all the authority of an empire.

"So… you are the children of the future," he said, rising from his throne. "Mateo, heir to the abyss. Nai, inheritor of the light. I am impressed with what you have become."

Mateo remained silent. Nai clenched her fists, trying to contain the disgust she felt.

"Why did you call us here?" she asked, bluntly.

The king walked to a nearby table, picked up two envelopes, and placed them before them. Then, he pulled a chair and sat down as one about to tell a long story.

"Because it is time for you to know the truth. About your parents… and about the Primordial Ki Project."

Those words fell like stones. The sound of the castle seemed to cease for a moment.

"What?" Mateo leaned forward. "That project… is real?"

"Extremely," replied the king. "And you two are key pieces in it. Allow me to explain."

He opened a map. A gigantic diagram of Ki flows, alchemical circuits, and ancient symbols.

"For decades, Britain and Huwofin have been waging a cold war for supremacy over the world's spiritual energy: Ki. We sought ways to amplify it, refine it… control the very essence of the human soul."

"That's when the experiments of the Primordial Ki Project began," he continued. "Its goal? To create humans who could surpass the limits of divine blessings. Humans capable of using pure Ki on a divine scale."

Mateo froze. It made sense. The voices, the mutations, the wolf. The unusual behavior of his blessing.

"You used us as lab rats…" whispered Nai, trembling with hatred.

The king shook his head.

"Your parents… were the ones responsible for preventing the project from destroying you. They were the ones who sabotaged the system, who stole the data and fled to protect you. They paid with their lives."

The world collapsed inside Nai. The tears came before she could stop them. Her parents… had died for her.

"They were not just politicians, Nai," said the king, with sorrow. "They were traitors in the eyes of the empire… and heroes in the eyes of humanity."

Mateo stood motionless. Blood boiled in his chest. And, at the same time, he felt something deeper. Something that called to him.

"Why… are you telling us this now?" he asked.

The king took a deep breath.

"Because times have changed. The project files have fallen into the wrong hands. A faction within Huwofin is trying to reactivate it, using blessed children to create living weapons. You two are the only ones who can stop them."

Nai stood up abruptly.

"And why the hell would we help you? You represent everything we hate!"

"Because you are not helping me. You are helping yourselves," he said, staring at Mateo. "You want revenge, don't you? You want to understand why your blessing acts like a living entity?"

Mateo narrowed his eyes. He was right.

"And you, Nai… you want revenge too. But there is a limit to what two people can do alone. If you want to topple the hidden empire behind the gang, you will need allies. Resources. Knowledge."

Silence hung in the air. The two young people stood before a choice that would change everything.

Then the king handed Mateo a black crystal.

"This… is part of the essence of Primordial Ki. It was harvested from the core of the first successful experiment… a boy named Tyron. One of the survivors. He disappeared years ago… but he may still be alive."

Mateo looked at the crystal. Inside it, something pulsed. Like a dark heart beating to a different rhythm. A rhythm that he… recognized.

Nai took a deep breath. She wiped her face. She looked at Mateo.

"Let's accept…" she said. "Not for him. But for us. And for our parents."

Mateo nodded.

"If this leads us to Tyron… and to the end of this project… so be it."

The king smiled, satisfied.

"Well then, children… welcome to the game of grown men."
