Chapter 9 — The City Festival & The Pendant Clue

The soft drizzle followed Hiten and Dev as they pushed open the wooden door of the Blue Harbor Café and stepped inside. Warm yellow light spilled across the room, mixing with the smell of fresh coffee and rain-soaked clothes. The sound of quiet chatter echoed softly, like distant memories returning.

Hiten paused.

Every corner of the café felt strangely familiar —
the watercolor paintings of rainy streets,
the hand-drawn sketches pinned near the counter,
the tiny glass raindrops hanging from the ceiling.

Dev whispered, “Bro… this place looks exactly like the one you wrote.”

Hiten nodded silently, fingertips brushing the sketches. One drawing — a girl holding an umbrella, her outline delicate — made his breath halt for a moment. Her style was unmistakable.

They ordered two coffees and sat by the window, the rain sliding down the glass like falling threads of memory. Hiten traced a finger over the condensation, lost in thought.

“She was here,” he murmured. “I can feel it in the air… in the walls… everything.”

Dev leaned back, studying him carefully. “You know what’s crazy? You’re not imagining this. Something in this city is… pulling you.”

Hiten didn’t respond. He simply stared outside, where streetlights glowed against the fog. When they finally stepped out of the café, the world felt charged — as if the sky itself had paused, waiting.

The city smelled of wet stone, sea breeze, and festival lights warming the rain-soaked night.

Hiten spotted it first:
a bright poster taped to a lamppost, fluttering gently.

“City of Rain Festival — Tonight Only — Once Every 10 Years.”

His heartbeat stilled.

The words shimmered under the streetlamp, the rain blurring their edges like a half-remembered dream.

Dev exhaled slowly. “If a festival that appears once in a decade shows up on the same night you arrive… I’m telling you — destiny is screaming.”

Hiten let out a faint, almost disbelieving smile. “Then let’s follow it.”

As they walked down the glowing streets into the festival, the entire city transformed.

Lanterns floated like golden stars.
Music drifted between the alleys, mingling with the rain.
Vendors called out softly, their stalls shimmering under the violet lights.

Paintings, glass ornaments, jewelry — each reflecting the droplets falling from the sky.

The atmosphere felt unreal — like stepping inside the dream they once shared.

A voice called gently:
“Sir, over here.”

A shopkeeper stood behind an art stall, holding something carefully.

Hiten froze.

A drawing rested in the man’s hands.
A boy standing in rain, eyes searching — the boy was unmistakably him.

Dev’s voice cracked with disbelief. “Hiten… that’s literally you.”

The shopkeeper extended the drawing. “A girl came here fifteen minutes ago. She bought a pendant, then left this sketch. She said, ‘If someone who looks like him comes… give him this.’”

He placed a small box on the table.

Hiten’s hands trembled as he opened it.

Inside lay a pendant — the same blue pendant Aarya had given him in the dream world.
The same engraving.
The same weight.
The same impossible familiarity.

Dev leaned closer, whispering, “Bro… no way… no way…”

Pinned beneath the pendant was a folded note.

Hiten unfolded it carefully.

The handwriting was soft, delicate — exactly as he remembered.

“If rain ever touches you the way it touches me,
you’ll know I’m still here.
Every drop carries a memory —
and every storm brings us closer.”

The rain around them shimmered, almost glowing under the festival lights.

Hiten closed his eyes for a moment, overwhelmed.
“She was here… she walked these streets… she stood right where I’m standing.”

Dev placed a hand on his shoulder — not teasing, not joking, just quietly steady.

“Dreams aren’t supposed to leave clues in the real world,” he whispered. “But she did. Which means… she’s close.”

Hiten tightened his grip on the pendant, the cold metal grounding him.

“I’ll find her,” he said softly, voice trembling with certainty. “Even if the worlds are still trying to keep us apart.”

And together, they stepped deeper into the festival,
their silhouettes swallowed by the colors,
the music,
and the rain —
as if the entire city was guiding them toward the girl who left memories behind like raindrops.

Rain leads him back to a place he never lived…
yet remembers too well.

Inside a café pulled straight from his own story, Hiten feels the weight of presence — proof that someone walked these streets before him. And when the city awakens for a festival that appears once every ten years, the rain doesn’t just fall… it guides.

A sketch. A pendant. A message left fifteen minutes too late.

Dreams weren’t supposed to leave clues in the real world —
but tonight, the rain breaks that rule.

And somewhere in the glow of lanterns and storm-lit streets, the girl he once dreamed of is no longer just a memory.

She’s close.
