The calming silence kept Aileene asleep while Mera petted her head. It was only with the faint sunbeams shining upon her eyes that pulled her awake. As she grumbled, Aileene peered to find the sun coming through the clouds, just about to pass underneath the blueish evergreens. “Good evening,” Mera greeted her.
Aileene turned up to Mera’s smile as she replied, “Good evening.”
Looking out the window, she observed, “The snow has finally stopped. Maybe tomorrow we can go to Quies and do some shopping.”
“That would be nice. I’d love to have something to eat.”
“Why don’t I make you some tea?”
Shuddering at the suggestion, Aileene cringed, ‘Not like the herbal tea my mother made…’
Mera chuckled, “Nothing medicinal, I assure you. Dog violets make a wonderful tea; I think you’ll like it.” After helping Aileene sit upright, she walked to the kitchen and retrieved a teapot with two cups. As she walked over, steam began coming from the spout, along with the familiar scent of flowers. She handed Aileene a cup and poured some tea into it. The violet fluid was certainly different from the herbal remedy her mother made, and smelled much more appealing as well.
With a careful sip, Aileene hummed in approval. “It’s delicious!”
“I’m glad you enjoy it!” After pouring her own up, Mera sat opposite. “I haven’t actually tried this myself,” she admitted before sampling it. Moaning in agreement, she admitted, “It is quite tasty.”
The scent grew stronger as the cups lingered. ‘Huh,’ Aileene realized, ‘this smells just like Mera’s aphrodisiacs.’
“Honestly, I’m not surprised,” she perked up, almost forgetting about Mera’s mind-reading. “Aphrodisiacs have an apparent smell that’s different to every person, supposedly their favorite flower. I had my suspicions when you asked for the bath water to be violet scented, but I didn’t know for sure.” Chuckling, she added, “It certainly explains why you got so turned on while I was washing your body.”
With a flush, Aileene turned away and sipped her tea. They enjoyed in silence for a short time, but then Mera wondered, “Would you mind if I sang some poetry?”
“Oh, not at all.” Pulling out Saph’s book, she turned a few pages before singing a new song. While listening, Aileene continued to sip her tea before realizing Mera wasn’t looking in her eyes. ‘I— guess I can think freely right now. What— do I think of everything that’s happened.’ She looked down in quiet contemplation before drinking more. ‘Honestly… it barely even feels like I died. More like— I’m visiting someone’s home… a very nice home. The only thing that really lets me know that this isn’t my own home is the color of the trees. I suppose there’s also Mera herself, her red skin and golden eyes hardly fit in my world.’ Aileene stared for a moment. ‘She is beautiful.’ With a flush, she looked down at her tea. ‘What am I thinking? It must be the flowers…’
She peered up in time for Mera to finish her song and meet their gaze. “Would you like me to continue?”
After a nod, Mera turned the page and changed again. ‘Well… she is pretty…’ She studied Mera. ‘Five years… I think I could get used to this. She’s kind, her company is— comforting, she seems knowledgeable, sex between us is…’ She shuddered before drinking more, ‘I think the tea is getting to me… But, she is… amazing.’ Looking down, Aileene admitted, ‘I really do adore her. She’s— made this feel like a new life instead of my death. I— I don’t know where I’d be without her…’ Finishing her cup, Aileene poured some more from the pot before bringing it up to smell it again. ‘It really does smell like Mera’s aphrodisiacs. No wonder I want to smell it so often…’ Her legs shuffled as Aileene recalled their enamored encounters. ‘Oh, Brigit, why— why does just thinking about it make me want it…’
“Aileene?” She snapped up upon realizing Mera was looking at her and no longer singing. “Are you okay?”
“O-oh, I’m fine. Just… thinking.”
When she didn’t answer, Mera wondered, “What were you thinking about? Not me, were you?”
“Oh!” Quickly trying to deflect, Aileene observed, “I-I was just thinking about— the tea. It’s delicious. Thank you for preparing it.”
“I’m glad you enjoy it. I can learn to make more foods, I just haven’t had the opportunity, and I’d hate for you to have to try something that— didn’t turn out right.”
“I appreciate it. I— I’d love to taste anything you can make, though.”
“Thank you.” She drank her own tea before wondering, “Would you like me to keep singing?”
Looking at her own cup, Aileene wondered, “Actually… I— I think the tea is starting to get to me. Do— do you think we can… uhm…”
Before Aileene could finish, Mera crossed the boundary between them to kiss her on the forehead. “I think we can do whatever you’re thinking. Will you ask me properly, though?”
After an anticipatory whine, Aileene wondered, “Uhm, Mera… can we… have sex?”
