The cold greeted Aileene as she stirred, followed by searing pain. She shifted but was immediately assaulted by the burn in her thigh. Opening her eyes, Aileene couldn’t see anything beyond a row of golden glows. Peering up, she found her wrists were affixed with a glowing band, shedding faint light over her skin.
She accidentally moved again, shooting fire throughout her leg; tears fell as Aileene cringed, clenching her teeth as she waited for the agony to fade. When it didn’t, Aileene prayed, ‘Oh, Brigit… Please, help. I— I’m so scared. I— I miss Mera…’
Aileene closed her eyes, hoping for some relief. Suddenly, her wrists fell and she felt herself being cradled. She peered up; towering above her was a gorgeous, slender woman with a striking resemblance to her mother. Her flowing, flaming hair was just like Brigit’s gift and her expression held such tenderness. “I’m so sorry for how you’ve suffered, my child.” The pain faded as Aileene felt herself entering a deep slumber. Before her eyes closed, she watched her translucent body slowly pass into the woman’s. “I promise, your next life will be happier and free of the terror you’ve experienced.”
