Misfits of Class Z

Chapter 1.1 — Punches for Breakfast: A Nightmare and The Spotlight

Chapter 1.1 — Punches for Breakfast: A Nightmare and The Spotlight

Dec 22, 2025

In some kind of arcade, a white haired boy falls asleep on his chair. The beeping of the pixelated games, lights flickering from the screens near... slowly lull him into sleep. A woman, in a dark blue shirt with her name on the name tag at one side of her chest, approaches him. Tapping him on the shoulder of his shirt as she speaks:

"Excuse me Sir, but we are closing."

He twitches. Muscles contract and tense up for a single flicker of a moment.

"Sir ?"

The unease in her voice becomes apparent as she touches his shoulder again. Her fingers push against the cloth of her shirt, pressing against his skin. For a single second it feels as if a transformator explodes from overcharging inbetween that little area of contact, as if sparks and flame should be all around them but is not. Most succinctly, it is as if electric power is pushing against the veil of her subconscious.

Ofcourse, she has no time to name the expirience as that since confusion and fear overtakes her mind. Instantaneously with the feeling, her vision shatters. Her perspective becoming overlayed with tens of different versions of an event. The different ways in which this boy gets up from his seat. She stumbles back and squeaks in fear as the boy, gets up in one of the ways she saw.

"W-what are you !"

He answers with a sleepy, sleek tone.

"Who knows ?"

He slowly itches the back of his head without opening his eyes, grumbling and groaning in perhaps the slowest of manners.

"You should leave."

The store worker, talks back. Her voice in shambles completely opposite to the boy who appears much taller than her now. His shirt half buttoned up showing the very top of his chest while the lower parts of the shirt half tucked in to some black pants. He says, having his head low:

"Everything will be allright. Just go home."

The walls behind him start stretching unnaturally, the concrete becoming like brush strokes or some kind of dough. Bending up, down, in and outwards, cracking and grumbling. From the store workers eyes, it appears to be a halo just behind his head. The ring of bending, sounds as if  the very physics engine of reality is being worked to its maximum. As if the thing thats trying to be calculated and rendered into reality, is incalculable... an impossible entity.

The store-worker does what all intelligent mortals do, she turns back and runs. Stumbling as she does so, she grabs her phone off of the game counter and bolts towards the glass door. She dissapears behind the curving of the street as the sounds of her shoes hitting the pavement fades away.

On the other hand the boy, or man if you would look at his size, yawns white bandages start floating up to his face as if they are growing vines. They wrap around his eyes as he turns back towards the anamoly.

"Here we go."

The walls behind explodes, bricks being shattered as arcades consoles are ripped apart from the explosion. The sound rings out, cracking the windows and screens all around merely from the pitch of the sound. A hand tears outside from the gaping maw in the curtain of spacetime. A loud whistle forms from the air current of the atmosphere descending into the hole. Another wretched grey hand slithers out of the hole and grips the its edges forcing it away from the epicenter of the explosion to open the warp even further. The rift becoming larger.

"Found you."

A soft, feminine distorted voice echoes out from the stark black void that becomes visible from the hole. Then the hand moves forward revealing more of the arm it is attached to as it grips much stronger onto the fabric of reality ripping even further beneath its hexing strength.

Asher speaks, his voice letting out a confident little chuckle.

"Im not that easy to miss."

The voice keeps echoing, forcing against the loud whistle of air as more and more of it is sucked in to the large pitch black hole. It seems as if reality itself is trying to mend and heal, only to be kept at bay by this entity.

"Are you brave or stuppiiddd son ? Don't matter. Youuu better run."

A black amorphous liquid stars oozing and pouring out of the hole in warp in the air, it smells with the distinct stench of olden blood. More and more arms begin to pour out of the void, widening the gap, becoming like the petals of a flower. The countless arms on the edges, opening and closing and thrusts a blank white body forward and out of the hole. First appears two knees and then powerful thighs and legs only to end with the rest of the quasi humanoid torso. The arms fuse back into the spine of the curvy creature, as its bare feet touches the ground of the arcade. As the arms dissapear so does the hole, a satisfying serene silence is summoned from the lack of loud whistling suction of air. The creature, clad in only a large pitch black sun hat, had long equally black hair drooping from its head. Its, or hers, torso seemed to be of spikes that petrude from its spine rather than full of any organs and inside these spikes grew faint pink flowers. Its backside had been smooth, healthy looking thighs, almost completely differnet from its upper body. Asher scoffs at the sight, seeing incomprehensibly more than what a physically is there.

"Thats indecent exposure young lady."

Magic flows inside his muscles and tendons, appearing on the entity he suddenly grabs her by one of those spikes and throws her to the side, the entities body tumbles through the air smashing through the brick wall. He sprints to the newly made hole in the wall only to barely grasp to the side to stop himself.

"Ah shit."

The outside world had dissapeared into a pitch black, eternal, blinding void.

"Thats... something..."

He looks down, a breeze shuffling his hair.

There far away at eye level, the entity was hanging in the air. Her arms stretched unnaturally, having lost the hat to the void and lifeless, limp. Her light skinned body, pale skin starts pulsing with black veins. Dark grey six fingered hands the size of buildings appear from within the silent void. Grabbing the body and crushing it between it's finger tips. Her mouth drops open, screaming with no sound or noise as her body is ripped apart.

"... did you really have to do that ?"

Asher slowly steps back as he speaks to himself, or for a second it seems he is. Because right after his question, the same horrid female voice speaks from a few meters to his right.

"Really disturbing stuff isn't it ?"

He irks first and then talks back recovering some of his confidence.

"There's just no way that is practical in anyway-"

The Lady simply raises her long, spindly, wretched hand and emits a vividly loud squelching noise. Asher finds himself questioning even though he is the one who should know things...

"What do you even gain from bothering me and this place ?"

"I dont gain anything from you-"

She holds out her finger, her long lanky body suddenly slithering through the air towards him as she tries to tap his forehead. Asher weaves not letting her touch him.

"You just don't pay close enough attention."

Her voice distorts even further, alarming Asher's very instincts. After all he too was mortal no ? Somewhat atleast.

"Im not that careless."

"Then you'll do whats good for you... and Ruuun."

The lights if any were left in the room go out, or rather it is as if darkness becomes absolete and all photons simply cease to be or maybe the room he was standing in is forcefully slipped away from beneath Asher's feet. Either way he suddenly finds himself tumbling through an eternal void, nothing to all directions. The only physical stimulation on his body being the gentle tug of the air that runs through his clothes and flaps his hair as he falls.

A seers worst nightmare, pure void, a monster, nothing.

"I know ones like you, the few like my uncle."

Asher puts his hands into his pockets as he keeps falling. Ofcourse, he knew no one of his actual blood line but faint memories of his mother. He was mentioning an adoptive family.

The entity ignores Ashers remark and starts with her own rant.

"You know, I've haunted many dreams. Though it seems, you peculiar little thing... had nothing but nightmares."

It's voice had been echoing like a distorted wind, coming from within his head and all sides at the same time. It lets out a glitchy, unrecognizable noise inbetween a whine of pleasure and laughter.

"How pathetic ! How delight-full ! I looveee. The taste. Of terror."

As he falls he starts to feel as if his very own being is begging to be swallowed, as if the eternal distance of nothing is pressing against him like the sides of a fleshy mouth gulping him down a pipe for food about to digest him.

"Very nice of you to decide and make things worse then."

His voice though, full of conviction and power keeps itself surprisingly steady even against this eldritch beast. The void fully swallows Asher, doesn't bite, doesn't eat, simply consumes him into the starless sky.

"Luckily, that uncle of mine, also taught me this neat little trick.

The void only keeps staring back as long as you keep staring at it. He catches the ends of his bandages that had been fluttering upwards around his head. He grips and pulls, the bandages tightening powerfully and constricting his eyes. He was trying to shut off his powers... He keeps falling. Air moving through clothes and airs slowly dissapates untill there is no indication of him falling at all... Then colors slowly dissapear from Ashers skin and clothes... becoming entirely gray scale, then the edges of his existence starts to blur as he becomes a wisp... an after thought.

Asher grabs the entity by the neck as he holds him up, the two of them suddenly appear into a lush grassland. It's lanky body droops down as its hands try to claw at his wrist. The open blue sky behind them lets through a damp wind that feels as if it will bring rain for the grass beneath. It groans as Asher speaks.

"You can only see those who look at you. Thats a rule for you voidborn..."

An evolutionary trait for monsters of such destructive abilities to be able to avoid each other without killing.

"You blinked ! Cheathing, cheating, that's cheating !"

Though her head slowly twists right and rests on her shoulder as her body leans back, an echoey, cackling, alien noise emanates from her.

"Only if I was like that man- Nothing, No one. I am not the void you've seen, I am not... Nothing."

She slices through her speech with more of that cackling sickening noise.

"I can smell you, every where you go. In the end you'll always run and I'll find you, devour whatever world you find and hide in... and then..."

Her arms and hands reach up, drenched in some thick, oozy black liquid. She grasps his face.

"I will reunite you with your mommy."

Asher suddenly wakes up in cold sweat. Another nightmare. The storeworker taps his shoulder.

"Excuse me Sir but we are clo-"

Asher vanishes from thin air, the woman gasps and lunges away. The seat he was on rattles for a moment spinning lazily on one axis and then comes to a stop.

...

Asher sits on a white piece of metal, thousands of feet up in the air. Wind and suction run around his body with explosive force fluttering his white hair left and right. The movement of air whips the bandages around his eyes away, he opens his eyes that glow an undiscernable color.

"Where are you."

In his vision all the possibilities of the plane appear in symattery, going right-left, up-down in infinite slightly different and distinct variations. He sees past the sky, past moons, past suns, past star systems, past space, past directions, past the shallow membrane of this specific reality.

"Where."

His infinite vision expends past everything there and everywhere could be.

 "WHERE ARE YOU !"

No one answers. Like always.

...

Hours pass. Asher runs through a bazaar, teleports through the sky and lands inside another plane where he mixes The Lady with someone else. He enters some party deep inside another dimension, and goes through another and another untill... He's waiting for something, expecting something. Beyond sight, but with divine intuition as The Oracle.

A soft hand pats his shoulder. A shorter girl, with such a large and puffy red hair that she appears about the same height as him talks to her... She is walking a... cat... how odd.

"Your in my way mister."

He steps away. He thoughtlessly looks through all the different possibilities of who she could be, nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody... and then some more background character... Why had his intuition took him here ?

"You come here very often, I swear I's seen you before."

She puts her hand on her hips. The cat swirls around her leg, thigh and goes inbetween her arm and the side of her chest before lunging up at her shoulder. It sends a stare at Asher that only seems equally as pouty as its owner.

"No, not often."

They were in a park near the beach. The sea hadn't yet beaten the rocks near into sand and the trees just behind them were creating shadows as the sun rose from the distant horizon, appearing as if a celestial spotlight that was being moved to enlighten the two of them.

The two of them...
A bright light and a rose.
A boy and a girl.
Two fools.
Two heroes.

Thats what such stories promise.
