John and Diane entered the bunker. They walked down the long dark hall for a few minutes until they entered the facility underground. John sighed as he still felt amazed by the fact this large structure was hidden away.
“We need to talk about our next move.” John said as he followed her down the steps into the communing area. Celina was walking with Rena appearing to give her a tour.
Celeste and the girl John learned to be named Sarah weren’t around. John assumed they were most likely in their rooms. John wondered if Diane or Celina talked to Sarah about her brother. It pained him to know that he died that way. He already had idea of his killer and when he got the chance he’d find him. Although, he had no leads on the man named Bezad.
“Any leads or where we can find Dante?” John asked suddenly.
Diane shook her head as she turned to face John. “We could check the Drex-corps facilities.” John continued.
Diane folded her arms over her chest. She looked at John with a strange look before she started to speak.“We could but there’s more than one facility and if one’s alerted the others will be too.”.
“We get the task force over to the others while we only check one.” John relied.
Diane rubbed the back of her neck. Then she shook her head In disagreement.
“How do we get them to avoid the one we want to hit?” She asked.
John stood silently for a moment. He figured it be best to let them hit all while he infiltrated the facility during the commotion. “There is no avoiding. You, Celina and I will be looking for explosives as well as superhumans with explosive abilities. I will infiltrate the facility by myself.” John said as
“If you go alone then the task force will catch you and arrest you. If the Drex-corps agents find you…they’ll kill you.” She said with a stern tone in her voice.
John sighed as shaking his head while waving her remark away.
“I won’t be caught by either of them because they will be too distracted.
“Lives are at stake so you need to take this seriously.” Diane said.
“I have an EMP grenade that can take out an entire block. There will be no power in the area for at least twenty five minutes.” John said as Celina appeared beside him wondering what was going on.
“If you do that then there might be potential accidents.” Celina said cautiously as she looked around the room. John nodded as he figured there was no other way to get answers.
“If either of you have a idea then I’m all ears. If not…then we need to figure out a way to keep the possible danger in our control.” John said.
Celina sighed as she nodded her head. “I can try to use my abilities to keep cars that may get affected by the blast from crashing.” Celina said.
“I know so people on the task force that can help.”A voice said.
John turned to see the pilot approaching them. He had long dark brown hair that kept having to push back every time it fell in front of his face. John had no idea why he was in the bunker or what he could do.
“I thought you left…”
“My names Jazz. Shane was my best friend and like a brother to me. So if I can help I will.”
“Okay, John. Once the clock is ticking you better be moving because once power is restored we’re leaving. That means if you’re still inside then you’re on your own.” Diane said as John bowed his head to show his gratitude.
“I prefer to work alone anyway so it works out perfectly.” John said.
Then he noticed Jazz staring at with an annoyed look on his face. As they all stood silently Celina had disappeared down a hallway while John and Jazz were talking. She finally returned but with a worried look on her face as she ran down the stairs. John watched her run down the hallway to the kitchen. He began to feel this tension growing as Celina emerged appearing frightened.
“Sarah is gone!” Celina panicked as she grabbed her hair and leaned against the wall. John sighed as he turned toward the others.
“Then we find her. We’ll put the mission on hold for now.” John said as he turned away and headed up the stairs. He sighed as he wondered why he was so being so quick to find her. John would’ve never done this before now. He walked in the darkness as he got to the exit where he climbed the ladder to the hatch.
The sky was getting dark as he climbed up onto upper ground. John began walking through the forest as the howls of the supernatural creatures could be heard. John sighed as he continued walking. A few seconds went by before he heard footsteps. He turned to see Jazz jogging after him.
“I’m surprised you’re already willing to help her. Figured we’d have to bribe you with money.” Jazz said sounding as if he was being sarcastic. John shook his head his face began appear less tense.
“I’m not that much of jerk.” John responded back with a sarcastic tone of his own.
Jazz chuckled silently as he patted John on the shoulder.
“You’re actually a decent guy. What made you stay by the way?” Jazz asked as John looked up at the sky and shrugged. He didn’t have much reason to be in Darko city anymore. Most of his friends were practically strangers to him at this point.
“There’s nothing waiting for me anywhere else. Also, I have questions and Dr. Lee has answers. I found out I’m not human so I want to know what I am.” John said as he shoved his hands in the pockets of his hoodie. Jazz said as he walked silently beside John.
“Now that I lost my friend I don’t know what to do. If we keep this up we’re bound to end up like Shane.” Jazz said sounding slightly afraid.
John didn’t blame him because what happened at Reaper’s Island was a massacre. John and Jazz were now in the city walking around searching for Celeste. They were searching the areas were humans didn’t live. John hoped she’d be there where the task force wouldn’t hunt her down right away. He saw a sign that said now entering zone C.
The task force only hunted nonhumans when they were out of their zones. Darko city was the first city where zones were created. Humans lived in zone A which was the biggest. Zone B belonged to registered preternaturals. Zone C belonged to the superhumans and it was the smallest area. They were usually the most troublesome because they struggled with trying to stay being seen as humans.
“Who’s your contact in the task force? Maybe we can get them to check and see if Sarah was taken in.” John suggested.
Jazz grunted before stopping at the end of the crosswalk. In this area everything seemed quiet. No cars were out and not many people were walking. In zone C the night time things were usually the liveliest.
“I can’t keep involving Commander Blast’s daughter in our affairs. I either ask that or ask her about the mission. I can’t do both of those things, John.” Jazz said as John sighed while crossing the street.
“Contact her about this and we’ll figure out the mission later.” John replied.
They continued walking down the dark barren street. He saw a man standing at the end of the street. John knew he was dealing drugs and might have seen something. John pulled his hoodie over his head as he crossed the street. The man noticed him walking and nodded his head.
“What up little homie?” The man questioned as he reached out his hand. John smacked his hand away and slammed against the wall. The man stared at him surprised as he raised his hands to surrender.
“If you don’t want every bone broken in your body you’re going to answer my question. Have you seen a young girl? A girl with blonde and blue eyes?” John questioned as the man shook his head.
He shook nervously as John wrapped his hands around his neck and pressed down. The man tried to shove John off of him but John slammed against the wall again.
“Yo chill! I haven’t seen anything! I swear.” He pleaded as John pushed him away as he stepped back. The man sighed while rubbing his neck vigorously.
John walked away and continued down the street. He continued to walk aimlessly down the street. John looked over his shoulder to realize Jazz had stopped following him. He shrugged as he continued walking down the dark and deserted street. John was now passing abandoned houses which appeared to all be broken down. He continued down the street as he heard screaming down an alley.
He sighed as he kept walking until he heard gunshots. John slowly turned around and headed down the alley silently. He stood outside a hideout of a gang of low-level superhumans. A naked woman ran out of a building as a man emerged from the doorway. He laughed hysterically as a small ball of energy formed in his hand. He threw it like a baseball at the woman and it exploded. John watched in horror as she hit the ground with her back burned from the explosive energy. She appeared to still be alive but in shock as John emerged from the shadows. Another woman was fighting off a group of the thugs. She appeared to have a low level of energy-based abilities.
John could see she was holding her own but she appeared to be getting tired. John ran over to aid in her fight to get away. A few of the men turned as John got closer. With all his might John rammed a thug into the ground. Energy came hurdling toward him as he moved. The next thug was struck with a flurry of jabs. The men were now paying attention to John. He moved in an agile manner evading attacks. John twisted in the air as he did a spinning back kick. Once he took out the last of them he turned toward the woman kneeling down breathing heavily.
“Hurry and get out of here.” John said as he suddenly heard sirens.
He grunted as he started running down the alley. The woman was running ahead of him as he watched her get to the end of the alley. She was tackled to the ground causing John to stop. He turned around to see Gizmo with cuffs in his hand. John
“Don’t make this harder than it needs to John.” Gizmo said as John lunged forward. John kept running when Gizmo disappeared.
As he retraced his steps to go back the way he came Gizmo appeared again. He tackled John into a puddle of melted snow. John jabbed him in his ribs knocking him over. John staggered to his feet now soaked from the puddle. Gizmo appeared again as he fired his blaster at John. He missed by an inch as he grazed John’s arm. Gizmo appeared to be growing frustrated as John darted forward. They both swung and connected with each other’s chin. John stumbled back his saw a mist floating where Gizmo was before. He turned to see a fist in his face. John was struck hard causing him to stumble back as he turned into another punch. His ribs were hit as he went hurdling into a wall. John staggered to his feet but got struck again. He breathed heavily as he knelt down struggling to catch his breath.
“You’re weakness disgusts me.” A strange voice said as the flow of air in the area shifted.
Gizmo yelled as he swung his leg aiming for John’s head. John’s perception heightened allowing him to counter. He managed to grab Gizmo’s leg as he stood to his feet. John roared as he swung him around before letting go. He sent Gizmo hurdling a few feet away. John ran over to Gizmo who quickly got to his feet. Before John could get to him, he felt this cold force strike him. He crashed into another wall as ice formed around his wrist. John looked around to see Gizmo’s comrade’s approaching. Jazlyn appeared with an annoyed look on her face as a man appeared beside her. John sighed as he realized he knew the person behind the mask.
“Quite a group of friends you got, Octavius.” John winced.
The man stepped back slightly. He tore off his masked with a surprised look on his face.
“What the hell are you doing here John?”
He looked over to see Gizmo getting to his feet. Gizmo brushed his clothes off as he approached John. “We’re taking you in for questioning.”
A woman handed Gizmo a collar. He placed the collar around John’s neck. When the collar activated John felt this stinging sensation in the back of his neck. Octavius helped John to his feet as they escorted him out of the alley. John sighed as he realized this wasn’t going to end well for him. This would deter his plans to infiltrate Drex-corps to an even longer extent. John walked silently with the group surrounding him.
“You don’t mind stopping to get me a burger would you?” John asked.
Everyone glared at him with annoyed looks on their faces. John felt someone push him from behind causing him to look back to see the ice manipulator. She had a serious look on her face as she glanced at John. He sighed as he kept his eyes forward until they got to one of the task force transport vehicles.
