John found the location of the club, but it wasn’t what he expected. He and Diane stood outside a large warehouse in a deserted area. The skies above were darkened as nightfall slowly approached. All of the buildings around appeared to be abandoned. John assumed that the building was closed or he had the wrong coordinates. John stood silently struggling to figure out his next move. Diane followed closely as they headed toward the warehouse. As they opened the door, they peered inside to see that it was unusually quiet. The building was filled with crates, and dust seemed to be everywhere.
John looked around confused as he noticed Diane approaching a statue near a wall. It was a statue of a grisly monster with numerous amounts of dragon heads. John shook his head as he realized the club was named after a myth. He assumed they named the club Typhon as an analogy for the superhumans. Typhon was a being known as the father of all monsters. John knew the title for father of superhumans belonged to Dr. Lee, which meant he was more involved than he let on.
He knew he had to hurry and find Dr. Lee before things got worse. As John continued to think of his next move, he noticed Diane touching the wall. The wall caved in and then slid to behind the statue. It was a secret staircase leading underground. A slight grinned formed on Diane’s face. Diane began descending the staircase. John followed close behind her. As they continued walking it became extremely dark. John was able to see but he wasn't sure about the others.
"I can't see a damn thing." Diane muttered as she stood a step below John.
They entered a strange hallway illuminated with torches. A man stood in front of a door down the hall. The man pushed open the door as they approached him. The music grew louder as he stepped through the threshold. John looked around to see over a hundred people hanging out. John saw a stage off in the distance where a microphone stand was set up. As he continued walking through a crowd of people, his head began to throb. He winced in pain as he touched the side of his head. His senses started to go haywire as his vision changed drastically.
A woman was walking by when he saw this strange aura surrounding her. It was an aura that resembled a fox, and he felt this faint breeze surrounding her. John shook his head as he wondered if he was hallucinating. She had a jewel around her neck that resembled a tiny star ball. Then he noticed that she had two fox tails which he thought was unusual. As he continued walking a woman with a faint purple wispy smoke aura surrounding her passed by him. He rubbed his eyes vigorously, as he continued to notice people with various kinds of auras. A few seconds later, he felt a hand on his shoulder, causing him to turn. Diane stood in front of him with a worried look on her face. John realized she didn't have an aura around her. He wasn't sure what this meant, but it worried him. His senses reverted to normal but he could still see the auras.
"Are you okay?" Diane asked as John nodded his head slowly. He wasn't sure what was happening to him and continued to despise this uncertainty.
“I’m fine. Do you see Dante or anything unusual?” John asked as Diane shook her head. On the stage, a group of people appeared, and amongst them was Jason. John became relieved but rubbed the back of his neck when he noticed the severe wound on his chest. He started to feel guilty, realizing how extreme he had gone in the moment he hit Jason. Diane placed her hand on John's shoulder as she pointed in the direction of the stage. Dante appeared causing the music to be turned low, and everyone began to cheer.
"I hope you all realize this is the only place we are truly free. Here, amongst our brethren away from the exploits of humans. When supernatural beings revealed themselves, humans were in an uproar about it. Then after a human created superhumans, they decide we should be exterminated, or imprisoned. Now they wish to send us to random islands to isolate us from the rest of society. When humans create something they no longer require, they dispose of it. If it’s something they don't understand, then they seek to destroy it. When they have their carnival we’ll send a message to let them know we won’t stand for the injustice anymore.” Dante said as the people began to applaud him.
He smiled with a mischievous look on his face. John couldn't believe these people were taking in Dante's words as if he was a revolutionary. John heard Diane breathing heavily as she passed him. He reached out to grab her, but she smacked his hand away. John knew things were going to get out of hand as energy formed around her left leg. He watched as she launched herself into the air as her arm became disfigured. As she came closer to the stage, her arm turned into a blade. A powerful strike followed, but Dante seemed to have seen it coming.
He easily stepped away effortlessly as the people with him pounced on Diane. A man with skin resembling armor charged at her. Diane leaped over him and landed on a woman with her left foot. The people around John grew outraged as they approached the stage to help Dante. John grunted as he lunged at a beastly looking being. He roared wildly as he barreled his fist into his side causing him to crash into a group of people. John sprinted toward the stage while moving in a pattern to evade attacks. A woman with teal-colored hair stepped in front of John. She raised her hands as energy projectiles fired in his direction.
He moved around them as he noticed the energy was causing things to freeze. John nearly slipped on a frozen area on the floor as he tried to grab the woman. She let out a ray of cold energy in his direction as he rolled out of the way. A woman with a fox aura stood before him. Unlike the one before, she had six large fox tails. A light green flame appeared in her hand as she looked at John. He wanted hesitantly to see what she would do. The flame grew larger as it turned into a spiraling ball. She threw it in John's direction, but it curved around him before he moved. The flame surrounded a group of superhumans. He continued toward the stage without much more thought on the matter. John lowered his body as he pushed off the ground. As he came down, he saw Dante running away from Diane.
She was fighting off a group of superhumans. John landed on the ground in front of Dante. He stopped in his tracks as he looked surprised and frightened. As John walked over to him, this heat behind him became present. He looked over his shoulder to see Jason running toward with arms engulfed in flames. John noticed a ray of heat surrounding Jason as he drew closer. A wicked smile covered Jason’s face as the area grew hotter. John took a deep breath forcing his senses to heighten.
John lunged forward as he pulled his arm back. He balled his fist tightly as he flexed the muscles in his arm. He planted his foot firmly before him and twisted his him. Although, he pulled his punch back just enough not to connect. Jason stooped when John’s fist grazed his nose. Then a large gust of wind knocked him back into the wall across from John. People gasped in disbelief. John stood there surprised by his own power. Then he noticed his skin had cracks on it. It seemed odd but he quickly ignored this.
“This is over Dante now tell me where is Dr. Lee.” John said as Dante began to laugh.
He bent down as he continued to laugh. John walked over and grabbed him aggressively. Dante continued to laugh as John grew furious. He picked him up by the neck as he tightened his grip around his throat.
“You can take me down, but the carnival is still getting attacked. If the city wants to keep the races divided we’ll show them where the true power lies." Dante gagged.
John tightened his grip until he felt a hand tap on John's shoulder, causing him to turn slightly.
Diane had a serious look on her face. John then let go of his grip on Dante’s neck. Dante fell to the ground coughing.
"You're trying to start a war that your people won't win. The numbers of superhumans and preternatural are extremely small. Supernatural beings remain in the shadows. This is nothing more than suicide, so stop this." John said as the people started getting closer to him.
Diane’s arm morphed into the form of a blade. He stepped in front of Diane, but she pushed him aside. Dante stumbled back trying to get away, but she lunged at him. John watched as her arm pierced through Dante's stomach. Dante gasped as he pulled away as blood poured out of his stomach. John's senses were strong he could taste the iron in the blood. Dante stumbled around as he continued to flee from his sister. John grabbed her arm to stop her, but she pulled away. He could the thirst for vengeance in her eyes as she stared at him angrily.
“We best get out of here.” John concluded.
John and Diane sprinted for the exit as they pushed throw the crowd. A riot broke out as they attempted to take out John. He looked over his shoulder to see Diane following him. He continued to evade attacks as he crashed into the doorway of the hall. His lungs were burning as he continued to sprint. They managed to get to the stop of the steps to see the light. They emerged from the secret passage way breathing heavily. Diane walked past John as he looked up toward. He grabbed her aggressively causing her to jerk her head around.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” He said as his eyes tore into her.
She began to show signs of guilt as she looked away. He shook his head in disappointment as he pushed passed her. He noticed that his clothes were ragged from fighting. John licked his lips as he rubbed the back of his neck. Dante could be dead and he felt guilty for allowing it to happen.
"I'm sorry, but I saw a chance to take him down." Diane trailed off.
John punched a crate nearby. It exploded into pieces as he turned glaring at Diane with pure rage. "You could've handled that situation a lot differently. The truth is you're not trying to save or fix anything. All you want is to seek revenge, and you'll do anything for it!"
John stood there staring deep into Diane's eyes. She shook her head as she folder arms across her chest. "John, I thought killing him would prevent more destruction."
John could see the guilt on her face but he was too frustrated to care. He hated the fact she only seemed to have wanted to kill him. They could have had an opportunity to speak with the people in the club.
"If you were thinking, then you'd have realized those people see Dante as a revolutionary. Even if you get rid of him, his influence has touched many. Those people will still attempt to bring his vision to fruition. You came at them with violence, and now they'll respond that way." John said as Diane bit her lip.
“We have to go…like right now.”
He didn't see a reason to stick by Diane's side anymore. It felt as if the longer he stayed with her, the more trouble he'd find. He decided that if he planned to get the answers he needed from Dr. Lee, he’d have to find him without her.
