As Dalgrah’s influence on the world grew and Kalata’s faded, Sequoia laid on her bed, staring at her brother who was fast asleep. Although her body begged her to close her eyes her mind was racing, fear of the dream latched onto her. She tossed and turned every few moments, forcing her body to move. Although she wanted to fight off the dreaded moment for at least a little longer, her body didn’t want to listen. She drifted in and out of consciousness, eyes fluttering. The night was quiet, for both the children. Neither had nightmares and neither tossed or turned. They had a sleep that shortened the night and carried them into the next day. A day where the sun rose just above the buildings, parents calling after their children running around, adults bumping into each other, bowing in apologies, clouds rushed to cover the sun but moved away just as quickly revealing its blinding light once again. Sequoia awoke to a slight shuffle next to her, she opened her eyes and looked down to see her baby brother sleeping. She sat up, looking over to her brother’s bed. His bed was empty, the bed neatly made. She sat there for a few minutes contemplating on the events of the day before, remembering the noise and chaos from downstairs. The baby interrupted her thoughts, the crying ringing around the room. She gathered herself and picked the baby up, bouncing him up and down. “You’re probably hungry aren’t you.” She smiled at her brother. “Let’s get you some food, shall we?” When Sequoia stood up, she felt a faint pain running up from her stump. She flinched at the pain but chose to ignore it, marching on through the day.
It was once again evening, the cool air from outside drifted through the main hall as the last customer left, the previously loud and chaotic tavern now calm and quiet. Everyone gathered together waiting for Hyssop and Chestnut to come out of the kitchen. "Good work again today.” Hyssop said once again, giving them their coins. They all stood around chatting for a while, discussing how the day went and what they did when they were on their breaks. An hour or so passed, the sky started to darken. The children let out yawns, their eyes grew heavier. They said goodnight to their temporary guardians and made their way back to their room. They laid down on their beds, not bothering to get changed out of their clothes. Neither child spoke a word, the baby already fast asleep. They quickly lulled themselves into their dreams.
To be honest I have had this chapter done for a while but I was hesitant to post since I felt it was too short but I decided that I would just post it anyway since no matter what I wrote it just felt wrong so I just decided to post it anyway. Happy reading and I hope you enjoyed!
