When Mercer made it home he showered and winded down with his cat, whom he had just taken in from the streets. It was a small Rag doll kitten with blue eyes. He had named it Blueberry, after its wide dark blue eyes. Ever since Mercer had taken the small creature in, Blueberry gained weight and became more used to its surroundings and Mercer. As Mercer was sitting on the couch with a bowl of leftover mac n cheese, Blueberry climbed up onto his lap and nuzzled into his side.
“Oh why hello my little Berry!” Mercer cooed with a big smile.
Blueberry purred and gently licked Mercer’s elbow. Mercer let out a small chuckle and squeezed Blueberry close. The cat let out a hiss and squeaked as he refused Mercer’s tight hold. But as Mercer kept cooing, he relaxed and let out a reluctant meow. Soon Blueberry fell asleep, leaving Mercer in a quiet calm silence with the TV humming softly and his empty leftover container sitting on the small coffee table.
It was around 1 am when Lorenzo finally went to sleep. His big penthouse was cold and quiet, the only sound being heard was the soft hum of the city night life. He fell asleep to the eerie quietness, half naked, and face buried in a pillow.
Mercer wound up in bed not long after Blueberry had fallen asleep on him. He could hear the bustling night city as he lay in bed. Blueberry was laying on the pillow next to his, purring softly. He smiled to himself as he closed his eyes and hugged another pillow he had set aside.
The night went by slow for both males as they slept soundly, having meaningless dreams.
The bustling city and dark sky faded to a light pink, the early morning blue with a slight fog. The morning air that blew through the window, guided Mercer awake first and then Lorenzo. Mercer got up bright and early taking in the morning breeze. He brushed his teeth and got dressed before having a morning smoothie and toast. He also fed Blueberry and they ate while listening to the morning news.
Lorenzo also woke up early, awakened by the smell of spiced and food that his chef was cooking. He got up and freshened up before walking into the kitchen. His shorts hung low on his hips, revealing his v-line.
“Morning Valentina,” He said groggily, as he grabbed a cup of coffee from the espresso machine.
“Good morning sir!” Valentine looked up from a pan of eggs and bacon she was cooking. “Did you find something to eat last night? You weren’t home by the time my shift ended and I felt guilty for not making anything.”
“Yes, I ended up making pasta. Please don’t feel guilty. Its my fault for not telling you when I was going to be home. I’ll try to tell you next time if I will be late,” He said taking a sip of don’t black coffee with oat milk.
Valentine smiled softly and served up his breakfast. “Thank you. If you let me know in advance then I can make dinner and put it in the fridge for you to warm up,” She slid a plate of eggs and bacon towards him.
Lorenzo ate rather quickly as he and Valentina talked. They talked about food, Lorenzo’s schedule, and life.
Valentine had been Lorenzo’s private chef since he graduated. She used to work for the Mathew in their family house but moved when Lorenzo left. She was a middle aged mother to three kids. She didn’t live far from Lorenzo’s penthouse, but in a small house with her kids and husband. He husband also happened to be Lorenzo’s father’s bodyguard, so the whole family was in the Mathew family field of work. Valentine was a gem to Lorenzo and his family. She cared about them like her own family. Her family also attended lots of the holiday parties held by the Mathew family.
Often Lorenzo would get a good 15 minutes worth of conversation with Valentine every morning and night when she made him food. Overall she was like an aunt to him and made his lonely life a little less lonelier.
After finishing breakfast, Lorenzo walked to his room to get dressed and head for work. He walked to his closet and changed into a black and white suit, adorned with a dark red tie. After looking in the mirror and tying his tie, he headed off.
As Lorenzo walked out of the lobby of his penthouse building, he bumped into a smaller male. He braced himself on the young man’s shoulder and realized it was Mercer.
As Mercer was walking past a rather large building he ran into a taller man, around the size of Lorenzo and to his surprise it was. He felt Lorenzo’s hold on his shoulders and gasped at the impact.
“Ack!” Mercer rubbed his shoulder. “Mr. Mathew, I’m so sorry.”
“Hey Mercer,” Lorenzo smiled. “It’s alright, I wasn’t paying attention, but it’s funny meeting you here.”
“You too,” Mercer chuckled nervously.
“I didn’t know you lived around here,” He also chuckled and eyed Mercer’s put together out fit and work bag.
“Oh yeah, I live tow blocks back that way,” Mercer pointed behind him as Lorenzo nodded in acknowledgment.
“Reaaaaally,” Lorenzo faintly smirked. “I didn’t know we lived so close together.”
Mercer froze and blushed at Lorenzo’s smirk. He rubbed his neck and looked up again. “Oh me neither. You live in a pretty big building.”
Lorenzo chuckled. “I guess that’s what big money gets ya.”
“Yeah,” Mercer mumbled.
Silence fell between them despite being on a busy sidewalk, in a busy city, in the morning rush hour. Honking and yelling tuned out between the two of them. They stared at each other for a while, neither gaze wavering. But the two of them snapped out of it when a young man flew past on a bike, almost hitting them. Lorenzo pulled Mercer against him as they jumped out of the way. Mercer took a stumble while in Lorenzo’s arms, but he steadied the two of them as they catch their breaths. A few seconds passed and they pull apart when the young biker flew off like he did in. Mercer instantly blushed when he realized him and Lorenzo’s compromising position. He took a few steps back while covering his face. After Lorenzo has also realized their closeness all he did was smile and brush down his suit. Mercer was still blushing when he heard the other’s chuckle.
“Stop laughing,” Mercer groaned. “We almost got hit.”
“Relax, that wasn’t even close. Also why are you blushing?” Lorenzo teased.
“I-i’m not-er. We were just close and it was awkward that’s all,” His face awkward a bit more before slowly going back to its natural color.
“If you say so…,” Lorenzo shrugged. “Anyways we should probably heat to work not, it’s already 7 am.”
“Shoot you are right,’ Mercer fumbled with his brief case but managed to pick it up.
After he straightened back up and Lorenzo was down looking at his watch, the two of them headed off to another day at work. The walk to the Mathew company wasn’t very long. It was just a few blocks away from Lorenzo’s penthouse and just a few more from Mercer’s apartment. They got there around 8 am, though a bit late for only walking a few blocks, only because they went to get coffee before arriving. When they arrived the two were greeted with smiles and waves from multiple co-workers and even Lorenzo’s father, whom was getting coffee from the lounge.
