Flashback
I stood bent over struggling to breathe as he stood in front of me. He didn't even seem out of breath at all. I could barely keep up with him. I looked up to see the disappointment on his face as he lunged forward. I readied myself but it wasn't enough as his fist rammed deep into my chest and knocked me off of my feet again. I smacked the ground hard causing me to cry out in pain.

"If you don't fight with everything you got, one day you're going to end up somewhere you don't want to be. I'm not going to always be around to protect you." He said as he turned away from me with his normal look of disappointment. I sighed as I collapsed on the ground.

Present

I awoke from my dream like memory to see bright lights above me. Everything was blurry but I could make out the golden figure of Dr. Lee who was approaching me. I closed my eyes and reopened them until I could see clearer. I looked around to see that I was in another room.

This time though I wasn't alone, there were two pods which had two unconscious girls in each of them. Kira appeared and stood next to the girl that looked like her. The only difference was the girl wasn't as pale as Kira. I continued to look around and saw a large machine on the far side of the room.

The lab was huge and there were so many tools for what I assumed were used for experimenting. I saw multiple syringes filled with a blue liquid. There were more syringes but they were filled with...my blood. I tried to get up but I realized I was strapped down to a table. I noticed six guards walking around the room with their weapons ready.

"That over there is the Molecular Evolver and it would accelerate their transformation. These young ladies have power already within them. This is Project X, John you will be the reason they evolve." Dr. Lee smiled.

He walked over to the pod where Kira stood beside. She shook her head as she tried to get in the way but one of the guards grabbed her.
I struggled to get free but there was nothing I could do. Two of the girls didn't appear normal but I knew Dr. Lee wouldn't care. Kira's sister and the other girl were injected with my DNA and the blue liquid.

They were each placed on a bed in the machine he called the Molecular Evolver. He strapped each of them down and placed a breathing mask over their faces. He then stepped out and closed the door to the machine as he stared angrily at Kira.

She screamed and cursed his name. I felt sorry for her and useless because I allowed myself to be restrained. He started pressing buttons on a keypad a few feet away from the machine. Lights began to flash as I could see the machine start to fill with a purple substance consuming the girls inside.

Dr. Lee turned to me with a strange smile which made it even clearer that he was insane. He was obsessed with his goal of perfecting mankind. This obsession had to come with a price.

"Do you have a family?"

"My son is here but his twin sister and mother abandoned us years ago." Dr. Lee said unhappily.

I realized this may have been his way of filling a void in his heart. I licked my lips as I wondered what I should do next.

"Maybe if you stop this they'd come back." I said slightly in an aggressive tone.

He stared his hands and felt his face. He laughed quietly. I couldn't stand the fact he could do this without any remorse.

Altering people without their consent...without thinking of the possible negative outcomes. What if they became walking nuclear bombs? Did he not take something like that into consideration? I thought to myself as I watched him marvel at the young woman. I shook my head in disgust thinking about what he does to the people here.

"Jade is the most special out of the two. I found something similar to....you. This will awaken her powers and she will have you to thank." Dr. Lee stared at me with a wicked smile.

The guards took me out of my restraints so I figured they were planning to take me back to my cell. While the one holding my arm wasn't paying attention I grabbed his Taser. I waited until I got close to the door before using it.

The guard to my left fell to his knees as I shoved it further into his neck. He began to have a seizure as I kicked the other to the ground. Before he could get back up I kicked him in the head. I knelt down quickly and took off the device that unlocked my cuffs. Once I was free my wrist began to ache and my head began to throb as my senses overwhelmed me again.

I took a few deep breaths before I sprinted to the guard holding Kira. He fired his gun multiple times but I kept going. I had to stop this before anything else happened. As I knocked out the guard, lights began to flash red.

Dr. Lee's face was filled with panic. Something was going terribly wrong with the machine. I looked carefully into the machine's window to see Jade's skin turning a dark shade of gray. As I sprinted toward it I noticed Dr. Lee teleport which meant he was fleeing. I tried to pry the door open but it wouldn't budge.

"Kira.... I need you to get your sister over there and leave this room!" I exclaimed tossing her the key to her cuffs.

She stared at it for a moment before nodding. She ran over to the room her friends were in and shook them for a long time until they finally awoke. I continued to pull on the door trying my best to get it open.

"I will try to get the other prisoners out of here but there is one that is on another level and I don't know where that is." Kira said as she took her sister and left the room.

I sprinted to the pod where the girl known as Jade inhabited. I pulled with all my might to open the door. As I continued to pull lights flashed and a deadly burst of energy knocked me backward. I hit a table, a pod, and then finally the wall.

I hit the ground smacking my face on the cold floor. I felt blood seeping out of my skull but seconds later I felt the burning. I climbed to my feet to see Jade stepping out of the machine.

Her skin a dark gray, her long curly hair pitch black and her eyes were a deep menacing dark blue. A cloud of indigo colored energy surged around her and the room filled with destruction.

The energy felt like a giant vortex trying to consume everything. As she walked closer to me I stepped back more and more until I touched the wall. Her dark blue eyes which seemed to be filled with nothingness stared me down. A few seconds later her eyes became engulfed in darkness.

She slowly raised her hand toward me. This draining feeling overtook me making me feel weak. What was this power and how was it so strong. I tried to move away from her but I felt numb and unable to move. A second went by before she collapsed to the ground and everything around her stopped.

What did I just witness? I wondered as I picked her up in my arms and ran out of the room. I stepped out to see people running everywhere. I continued down the hall until I saw Jack limping toward me. Behind him were two prisoners and his brother. He nodded when he saw me, it was clear he was relieved to see me.

"Here...take her and get them out of here." I said as he took her out of my hands. I nodded but began to look worried.

"We are on Reaper Island." He said as the ground beneath us began to shake. I looked around confused until a saw an explosion on the other side of the hall.

"Get them outside before this place comes down on you. I have to find another prisoner."

I turned away and sprinted down the hall but stopped. I looked at my clothes wondering where my combat gear would be. Then I realized it would likely be pointless to search for. I shrugged as I continued on my journey to find a way to the upper levels of the building.

The ground and building continued to shake. I saw a crowd of people running toward me causing me to step to the side so I wouldn't be run over. I looked around wondering why the scientists were in such a panic when a giant creature came running down the hall.
It had to be about seven foot tall and four hundred pounds.

It was something out of a nightmare with its glowing cold blue eyes, sharp teeth, claws the size of daggers, and the sound it made. It sounded like a strange howling sound but it was too low pitched to be a wolf. Besides it was nothing like a wolf.

I started to run as I struggled to find a way out of this terrible situation. Within seconds it clawed at my ankle and knocked me over. I hit my face hard as it continued running past me. Its long tail wiped me into the wall causing it to crack as I slid down to the floor. I coughed in pain as I looked up to see a stairwell across from me. I stumbled to my feet and continued stumbling toward the door.

I pushed through the door to see a flight of stairs that seemed to go on forever. I sighed angrily as I started up the steps. I would have to check every floor to find this person and by then the building could collapse.

I entered the second floor and ran into every room I could find but there was no prisoner. I reentered the stairwell and went to the next floor. Guards were running everywhere trying to clear out the rooms with as much equipment as possible. I shrugged as I went back into the stairwell. I kept searching until I got to the sixth floor.

The building shook again as an explosion occurred on the other side of the hall. A hole was created from the blast allowing us to see the sky. A guard emerged from a room panicked. When he turned and noticed me he readied his weapon.

I sprinted toward him and punched him with all my might. The guard flew back and hit the wall hard. I peered inside to see a person with ashen skin. The man had no hair and his eyes were a dark red while the sclera was charcoal gray.

As I slowly approached him he stared at me with no emotion. It was as if there was nothing inside of him. This feeling in the pit of my stomach told me to turn back and leave him.

"Hello...John."

I was shocked that the man knew my name.
Who was this guy and why was he strapped to this machine? Despite every fiber of my being telling me to not do this I couldn't help it. I couldn't leave the man here to die. I released him without out much thought and helped him down from the thing he was strapped to.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Don't worry... you will see me again, boy!" He said as took off running.

I stood there alone and confused.  The building started falling. Without much of a thought I saw an opening to the outside. If I could heal lil Dr. Lee said maybe I could survive a fall. With a deep breath I took the leap.

As I fell, I could see we were surrounded by a jungle like area and then I finally noticed that this was an island. Seriously, an island?  Of all the places in the world to have a secret lab it had to be on an island... Reaper Island.

I crashed into some trees and I felt the bones in my body break. My skull hit a stone hard and I blacked out.
