I awoke to the sounds of screaming and opened my eyes to see everyone running. My body ached as I struggled to stand. I looked around to see we weren't near the facility. Had someone dragged me out her?

I continued to look around frantically to see what was going on. I was surprised by how well I could see in the dark. I followed the screams down a long hill while I stumbled over roots and dodged numerous amounts of trees. Finally, I saw them.... creatures with eyes black as night.

Their faces were gray and seemed hollow like a
skeleton. They had strange pointy ears and long black manes and most were large but bony. As they attacked one of the escapees they made this high pitch howling sound. As I ran to help the girl who now was drowning in her own blood and trying to stop the blood seeping from her throat.

I noticed the creature's long tails but what astonished me was the way they struck another member of my group. The way they moved their tails reminded me of a...scythe. I looked up to see a larger one sprinting toward me on all fours. This was strange since many of the others were only on two feet.

Its long claws reached out for my throat but I ducked out of the way as it stumbled past me I saw that the girl who was now dead. I sighed as I closed her eyes and gently let go of her hand. I hated seeing people die like this or in situations like these.

She deserved better.... So did the boy that I now saw pinned to a tree. These creatures were wild and deadly. If I didn't act now everyone would die so I got up and ran toward the biggest one. It snarled in a strange manner as it pounced in the air with its claws stretched out to grab me.

I side stepped out of its way and grabbed its tail. It turned and hissed as I pulled hard on the blade like tail. I grunted as I pulled as hard as I could and turned on my heels. I held as tight as I could as I spun the creature around me until I felt dizzy.

I sighed as I let go and fell to the ground. The
creature howled as it disappeared into the darkness. Seconds later I heard a loud cracking sound and then a silent whimper. The other creatures howled as they all stared at me viciously. Instead of attacking they disappeared into the darkness as well.

I rubbed my hands over my thick hair as I sat staring into the darkness wondering what exactly happened. I got up and continued down the hill until I found the others. They were all afraid and shaken up from what happened. I looked around and realized it was four other people missing.

"I guess she was right... you did survive that fall." Jack muttered.

"What just happened? How did this happen?"

"So many are dead...I don't see how we will survive another night." Jack said angrily as he paced back and forth.

I walked over to him and placed my hand on his shoulder. He shoved me back causing me to stumble to the ground. I looked up at him angrily as I got to my feet. He started to come at me again but a blur appeared between us...Styles. I looked at him shocked and I realized he was a speedster too. He had obtained similar abilities to his brother but he seemed faster.

"Styles...was one of the first to get the serum that had your DNA." Kira said causing me too look at her. I approached her in a serious manner causing her to slowly become frightened.

"How is it that unlike everyone else...you know so much?"

She looked around nervously to see everyone staring at her. I had to know what she was keeping from the rest of us.

"His son told me things....while he..." She trailed off as tears fell from her eyes.

She looked as if she was ashamed of something. I didn't want to jump to conclusions but I knew Dr. Lee's son may have been taking advantage of her. It's a cruel world we live in... or at least the people are cruel. Kira's sister approached her and pulled her into a tight embrace. I stared at them for a moment before turning my attention to everyone else.

"We are going to all get through this. Let's just stick together." I said as everyone nodded in agreement.

I sighed as I noticed it was almost dawn. One thing I hardly ever saw in Darko city was the sun rising or the sun at all. I never knew what it really looked like until I left for college. It was clear everyone was tired which meant they wouldn't be able to go too far before collapsing.

"Rest until noon and then be ready to set out to find the ship." Jack said as I turned and headed toward a tree.

"Ship?"

"She says there's a ship that we can take to get off this island. It's literally our only hope." Jack replied.

I sat down and leaned my head against it. What was I going to do with these people? I had no intention of helping anyone but I can't let them go to the city for they would stick out too much. Especially the girl Jade.

I watched as Styles and another girl raced each other using their super speed. The most I knew about people turned into superhumans was that they could have similar abilities but each individual had their own uniqueness. As I sat and watched everyone rest I noticed helicopters flying away from the island.

It was about an hour until they were finally ready to go. Jack stood to his feet as he grabbed his things and signaled for everyone to get ready to move. It was another day we had to endure to find a ship we may not even find especially when we had no idea where it was.

As far as I know we could be heading to the other side of the island instead of toward the shoreline. We walked aimlessly for hours as the sun continued to go down further and further. We were losing daylight and it seemed as if we hadn't made it anywhere.

I began to hear movement as we continued walking. The movement sounded a bit distant which made me curious about my abilities. It's only been about four days now here I am wondering what I am. I continued looking through trees hoping it wasn't another one of those....creatures that reminded me of a Reaper. Maybe that's what they were....Reapers.

After a while my super hearing stopped and went back to normal. I grunted silently in anger for I knew it would be a while before it kicked in again.  Everything was happening so fast for me. Before I came and decided on seeking out Dr. Lee I thought I was a human. Now here I am unsure of what exactly am I and where do I really come from. As I continued to wallow in my thoughts I was nudged in my ribs by Jade.

"What are you looking for?"

I shook my head as I continued to walk. She muttered something under her breath.
I wasn't trying to be a jerk but I'm not one for getting close to people. I always pushed away and I've done it even more for the last few years of my life. It's all I have ever been able to do lately.

I continued following the others who were all talking amongst themselves.
What's in store for us all in the future? That's one of the many questions I want to know. After a while I noticed  the remaining members of the group were appearing fatigue. Kira's sister sat down on a stump of a tree.

"We keeping move." I said as I walked by.

I heard her whine angrily as she stood up and grabbed her sister's hand. Jade continued to walk beside me silently but I could feel the tension growing in her. She seemed worried about something as well.

We trudged up a small hill and when we got to the top we finally saw it. The shoreline and there was a small ship waiting to be boarded. Kira glared at everyone angrily as if she was upset we had doubted her.

It would take another day or so to get down but at least we are headed in the right direction. I need to get back to Darko city in order to get my things from the hotel before it's thrown out on the street. Once I have my things hopefully I will be able to leave.

"When we make it back to the city... if you don't mind helping me....then I can take them to this abandoned warehouse to stay for a short period of time." Jack said.

I nodded as Jack sat next to me. Another long day was ahead of us but no one knew what would happen after that. I sat and watched everyone sleep for I refused to sleep until I was home.  I didn't want someone else to die. I sighed as I stood to my feet and stared long and hard at my hands. I was changing and I didn't know what I'd become.  This feeling of uncertainty.... I hated it.

"You alright?" I looked around to see Styles staring at me.

I nodded as I dropped my hands to my side. I walked over to him as a loud roar filled my ears. The sound of birds flying out of the trees could be heard all around us. Everyone sat up and quickly got to their feet.

"We have to move...now!"

I ordered causing everyone to follow Kira who was already on the move. We were all running in the dark. Jade stumbled and fell down a steep hill screaming as everyone continued to run.

I dived down the hill with my hand stretched out to her. I watched as she reached up for as we slid further and further down. I finally got a hold of her and pulled her close to me. I used my free hand to grab a large branch to stop us from sliding. Successfully I did but the momentum of the fall ripped my shoulder out of place once I grabbed the branch.

I grunted in pain as I pulled the two of us back on top of the hill. I looked around searching for a sign that led to the others. It took me only a few seconds to see the fire in the distance. I grabbed Jade's hand and pulled in the direction in an effort to catch up.

They didn't even look back when she had fallen. They only cared for themselves at this point. I noticed how much they hardly mourned the death of the others. Were they all that afraid or did Dr. Lee's imprisonment make them this way?

I was surprised by the fact Jade had no trouble keeping up with me. Maybe it was because of my DNA and the fact that hers was already somewhat similar to mine...but how? As we ran I hear the roar again but this time it was closer. Whatever it was I had no intentions of dealing with it.

"Are we going to make it?" Jade shouted as she ran alongside me.

I said nothing as I continued pumping my arms. I started to remember my years as a cross country and track runner. I wasn't the greatest but when I ran I felt unstoppable.  It's how I feel now especially when I was running from something.

That's how it's been my whole life. I continued to focus on getting to the fire that seemed to get smaller and smaller the more I ran. The sound of roars continued to nip at our heels.

I stopped and turned to see what was chasing us but there was nothing. I looked around realizing the roaring stopped. What was going on? Jade appeared next to me with the same confused look. I grabbed her arm gently and turned back to the direction of where the others were heading.

I hadn't realized how long we had been running until I noticed the sky started to lighten. Another day was about to start but how close to the ship were we now?  Jade and I walked in silence as the ball of fire disappeared. I sighed angrily as I realized we would be walking blindly in search for the others now.

"Right now we have to stick together if we want to survive." I said without looking at Jade.

It would be hours before we saw the shoreline but hopefully we would make it before nightfall. We walked for another few minutes when....Reapers appeared. Jade screamed as she got close to me but I pushed her aside.
"What are you doing?" She asked as I forced her to move farther away from me. I stared at her long and hard.

"Leave and find the others. Now!" I said as she started running.

The Reapers started for her but I sprinted toward them. They snarled as I approached them. A long claw reached out to grab me but I ducked and tackled the creature to the ground.

I glanced at its spiky shoulders as I slammed its head on the ground. The others tackled me to the ground and clawed at me. I grunted in pain as I rolled around trying to get away.
I got to my feet and tossed a large rock at a small Reaper's head causing it to cry out it in pain.

Another one tackled me to the ground causing me to roll on my back and kick it in the chest. The creature fell over top of me as I rolled back onto my feet. I charged at another and slammed my fist into another Reaper's head.

The impact caused the creature to fly into another Reaper as they stumbled down a steep hill. I front kicked a taller one which caused into stumble backward. It was helped up by the others as they backed away.  I noticed the large one appear causing them to step away from me.

It was clear they were a pack of some kind and this Reaper was their leader. I stood to my feet as the creature snarled viciously at me. I snarled back as I sprinted toward it. The creature pounced forward in an attempt to cut me down. I leaped as high as I could as I struck the creature in its chest.

When my fist connected a strong jolt of energy knocked us away from each other. I hit a tree before I hit the ground as I felt my spine crack. I coughed and groaned in pain as I stood to my feet. I looked around to see the other Reapers inching toward me. I roared angrily causing them to back away.

I snarled once more as I attacked the leader again. I struck it in the head repeatedly until it began to whimper in pain. Its cold gray skin and thick armored like flesh bruised my hand the more I struck it.

I continued to strike it relentlessly without remorse. I didn't stop until it slowly stopped moving. I gasped in shock realizing I had lost it. I looked around to see the others staying at a distance. I couldn't believe I lost control of myself. I stumbled backward as I began running as fast I could to find Jade.

I heard the strange howls not far behind me as I ran. I began to breathe heavily as I ran harder and harder searching for the others. Where were they? I wondered as I continued to search but was unable to find them.

As I ran I was hit over the head with something hard causing me to fall. I tumbled to the ground holding my head as I looked up. The sound of drums slowly began to flood my ears. I was surrounded by a large group of people and I noticed they all had abilities.

These were superhumans but not the ones I was trying to help off of the island. They looked wild and as if they had lost their sanity some time ago. I slowly stood to my feet as one stepped through the others.

She was wearing different clothing from the others and had paint all over her face and body. Their eyes glowed strangely which was unusual to me. Her dark brown hair hung low over her shoulders. It was branches and leaves tangled in her thick curls.

She began to speak in some language I couldn't understand. I stood there looking at her confused. Her people shook their heads as they looked around listening for the Reapers.
""What is your name?" She said in a strange accent.

I tilted my head surprised that she could speak English. I licked my lips as I slowly pulled off my goggles.

"John...who are you people?" I asked as I looked around questionably.
