Gizmo returned to the room with Agent Raven, Mr. Grey and Agent Hex. When she saw me she stopped and stared at me with surprise. I gave her a confused look before turning my attention to Gizmo.
"I'll make this easy for you John...Where are they?"
I looked at everyone in the room pretending to be confused. I wasn't about to reveal that I knew where they were in exchange for my freedom. The only thing I could do now was push Gizmo to the edge.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I said causing Gizmo to sigh in frustration. He slammed his hands on the table and he struggle to keep calm.
"Dude the superhumans, damn it!" He said angrily. I scratched my head as if he had lost me somehow. He was losing his cool and I knew he'd break within minutes.
"I don't know any superhumans....except you."
This caused him to step around the table and grab my shirt. He pulled me close to him as he snarled. I could smell what he ate not too long ago which had to be a philly steak and cheese sub.
"Dude, you were in the same area as two that attacked the Black tiger gang. You were also with that small group a while back!" He said angrily as I shook my head. He slammed me into the chair causing everyone to stare at him with worried looks. They all could see he was losing this interrogation.
"I just happened to be passing by the area. If they attacked the Black tiger gang it had to be for a good reason"
I shrugged my shoulders casually. Gizmo sighed as he sat down in his chair as Raven stepped forward.
"Okay John, you might not see it, but superhumans are dangerous. Superhumans can be a danger to society when not put under control." She said softly. I was stunned by her remark causing me to look at Gizmo and Agent Frost.
"I'm supposed to care about a violent gang? To me the gang is more dangerous than superhumans who were turned against their will. Also, the task force work with superhumans even though they are dangerous. Oh wait, I guess Gizmo's not dangerous because you have him on a leash? If you're trying to win me over to your point of view then you are failing miserably. Just because they are different doesn't make them all bad." I said causing her to look shocked.
She looked away and stepped back from the table. Gizmo sighed as he prepared to take over again but Mr. Grey intervened.
"Look kid...your records are clean. Too...clean." He said staring at me with concern. I shrugged as I shifted in my chair once more.
"Sorry to disappoint." I said with an annoyed tone of voice.
He grunted as he stepped away from the table. I realized now was probably going to be the time when Gizmo lost it.
"That girl that we arrested is dangerous to the lives of innocent humans, and there is no telling what the other one can do." Gizmo said as he got closer to me I stood up even though I was chained to the table.A a man with silver and black camo uniform stepped into the room.
"You're nothing but a pathetic hypocrite because you are no longer human." I said as Gizmo slammed me on the table.
He withdrew his gun and aimed it at my face. Raven immediately grabbed him and did her best to pry him off of me. They pushed him to the wall as Agent Hex came in. She quickly helped me off of the table.
"Gizmo you are going too far." Raven said angrily as she stared at him angrily. He grunted as he tried to push the Shadow off of him.
"I guess you hate the fact you're a superhuman because your father was disgusted by them. Unfortunately, he still helped bring them back from the verge of extinction." I said as he teleported in front of me. I heard Agent Hex yell for him to stop as he slammed me through the table. I winced in pain as he held me down and stared at me.
"Let me tell you why I've resented you so much since that day! You're just like these superhumans who only choose to help others when it benefits them. All of you sit on a pedestal above everyone else carelessly doing as you please. Everyone dies around people like you!" He said with a tone of voice that sent chills down my spine. I didn't truly know what to say to him at this point. I sighed and looked away.
"You still don't realize you always had a better life than me. I was taught that I should never try to be a hero, only a person that survives. Nothing good comes from being a hero and that day reminds me." I said as he grabbed my neck and came closer to my face. His anger and pain could be seen in his eyes.
"Why couldn't you have been the one to die?" He asked angrily as a tear rolled down his cheek.
The soldier grabbed him once more. I began to reflect about the day he lost his mother and sighed.
"Take him to level four." Mr. Grey said as he closed the door. I was confused as to what that meant but I figured I wouldn't be leaving anytime soon.
"Why do you keep provoking him?"
"What does it matter to you, Agent Hex?"
"Call me Ava and it doesn't I just...never mind." She said growing silent as the doors opened and she peeked out to see if anyone was around. She took my arm and led me down the hall.
"What are you doing?" I asked confused she stopped and turned.
She looked up at me as she tried to figure out what to say. I stepped closer a she did the same. I was confused as to where we were going and at what was happening.
"I... I'm letting you go." She said quickly looking away and scanning her keycard as another door opened.
She urged me to follow her as we headed down a dark tunnel. We walked for a long time in silence until we approached a set of stairs. At the top of the stairs was a door where she scanned her card again. The door opened and I realized we were in a different part of the base.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked confused causing her to shake her head slowly. I stared out at the field where task force troopers were busy working on gear, transporting artillery and whatever else they did on this base.
"Shut up and go....don't get caught. Besides they would have to let you go after what Gizmo did anyway." She said as her hand brushed mines. I licked my lips nervously as I looked away. I gently grabbed her arm and looked at her again.
"What about those two girls? Can you help them?"
She sighed unhappily as she shook her. I sighed as I thanked her and backed away. I took off running trying my best to stay in the shadows. After a while I found myself near the gate.
I wasn't sure how I was going to get out until I saw a crate with extra uniforms. I sighed deeply as I quickly changed and started walking toward a truck preparing to leave the base. I kept my head down hoping not to draw attention.
Surprisingly I made it to the truck and walked along the side of it as the doors opened. I had just made it outside when I drew attention.
"What are you doing solider?" A deep voice called after me.
I turned to see an older man approaching me. I sighed as he stopped directly in front of me. I knew I wouldn't get out of this so I tossed the rifle at him and kicked him to the ground. I sprinted away as fast I could trying to find an alley to run to. I started stripping out of the suit when I heard the sounds of sirens. I cursed under my breath as I sprinted out of the alley and across the busy street.
I ran as fast as I could until I was in the forest searching for the entrance to the Bunker. I continued running in hopes to not allow the task force to find it. After a while I found myself leaving Darko city which meant if I kept running I'd probably end up near Hollow forest. I stopped when the Giz-mobile slowed down in front of me.
I wasn't equipped to fight for I only had on shorts and a t-shirt. Gizmo stepped out with an angry look on his face. I was confused as to how he found me. My ears rang viciously as my hearing ability increased. I could hear the sirens of the task force making their way in my direction. I had to get past Gizmo so I could continue running.
"You're not getting out of this." He said as we sprinted toward each other.
He swung wildly with his right arm as I ducked under and hit him in the sternum. He swung again as he teleported and punched me in the back. I grunted as I turned but he disappeared. I quickly turned and kicked him in the chest with my foot.
He stumbled back as he teleported again. This time he appeared above me. He withdrew his blaster and gun as he began firing away causing me to sprint toward a tree. He got me in the leg as I rolled out of sight. I watched as the wound quickly healed before I continued running.
As I ran I heard something above me in the trees so I looked up. He swooped down with a knife and tried to cut my throat but I stumbled back. I realized he wasn't trying to capture me....he wanted to kill me. I knew he had the advantage because he was a better tactical fighter than me. I had to play this smart by not being reckless or he would discover that I wasn't human.
As he teleported again I took a deep breath and did my best to listen for him. I quickly sensed him above me as I jumped up and threw my body forward. I got high enough to kick him in the hand with the leg I extended outward. As I fell on my back I heard him grunt in pain as he fell and landed on his head. I leaped to my feet and I sprinted over kicking him in the ribs. Kneeling down I grabbed him by the shirt forcing him to look at me.
"It doesn't have to be like this, Gizmo." I said causing him to laugh as he took off his goggles.
"It was always meant to be like this you worthless loser! Everyone abandoned you because you are nothing but trouble." He said as he disappeared.
His words struck something deep inside of me as I felt a gun fire from behind me. My eyes widened for a sec as everything around me slowed to a crawl allowing me to out of the bullets line of fire. Gizmo continued firing but I easily maneuvered around them before I leaped high into the air.
He lowered his weapons as he stared straight into my eyes. I punched him hard with all my might which caused a powerful gust of wind to blow the trees wildly. Gizmo's body went spiraling toward a tree as he crashed into it. I stood confused as his body slid to the ground.
"Gizmo!" I shouted as I sprinted over to him. I rolled him over as he stared up at me slightly dazed.
"What...are you?" He asked as slowly fell unconscious.
I began to examine myself as I backed away. I looked around wondering where I should go now because the task force were closing in. What was happening to me? I wondered as I sprinted further away from Darko city. The further I ran from them the more creatures I spotted and could hear. I did my best to circle back around to Darko city which took me hours.
Once I had returned I was exhausted. I saw the task force leaving the forest and returning to the city still searching for me. That means roaming the streets while they were out on patrol would be difficult.
If I can stay off the radar long enough then they might not worry too much about me. I entered the Bunker to find Kira and Karen safe with the others. I was drenched in sweat causing me to take off my shirt.
"They let you go?" Sean asked causing me to look away disappointedly.
"As long as Karen and Kira got back then that's all that matters." I said as I entered my room.
I sighed deeply as I collapsed onto the bed. I laid there staring at the ceiling until I sensed a presence in the room. I turned my head to see Jade. She waved awkwardly as I sat up realizing I had no shirt on. I looked down uncomfortably as I asked her to wait until I cleaned myself up.
I left the room with a change of clothes to shower. As I showered I stared down at my feet as the warm water tickled my skin. I felt so tense and anxious thinking about how I should have did more to help them. It wasn't right that so many people were being arrested for being a supernatural being, superhuman or whatever else was out there. I just wish there was more I could do, but I wasn't a hero and I had to keep reminding myself of that.
I sighed as I turned off the water and pulled back the curtain. I stepped out the shower and grabbed the towel. I dried off and got dressed before stepping out of the bathroom. I returned to my room where Jade was sitting waiting for me.
"My powers...why does it have to be darkness?" She asked as she stared at her hands. I didn't know exactly what to say because her powers were still growing. It could be more to her powers than darkness.
"Have you noticed anything else about your powers?" I asked causing her to nod with a strange look. I was confused as to why she was making the face until she finally spoke.
"I think I can sense fear and feed off of life energy or something...it's weird."
I nodded as I laid down on the bed, and after a while she did the same. I glanced at her as I remembered what Dr. Lee told me.
"Apparently your DNA and mine have a similar origin." I said causing her to make an unusual facial expression as she sat up.
"We're related?" I shook my head slowly as I sat up on my elbows. I licked my lips before I thought of what I should say.
"It means whatever we are....we come from the same place." I said slowly as she laid down to take all the information in.
My life was venturing further into the unknown and it made me extremely anxious. What are my powers and what it's this strange feeling inside of me. There is a side of me that I have felt for years but it never surfaced. All I can ever do was wonder why. I glanced over at Jade realizing she was asleep. I stared at her awkwardly until I shrugged and closed my eyes.
