The pack house kitchen was unlike anything I had ever seen. Even the few memories I had of my pack didn't live up to the power this place excuded. It was like the power the Alpha had was absorbed into everything. I couldn't help but look out the window in awe. There was a huge lake with the full moon's glow hitting it. It took my breath away.
"Alright Sara, so what'll it be? Steak? Bacon? Eggs? What are you hungry for?" Devin asked me as he rifled through the fridge.
"Uh...is there peanut butter and jelly?" I couldn't remember the last time I one. Oh how I missed the taste. You don't really get a lot of peanut butter and jelly when you're surviving in the woods.
"Um yeah sure. A bit of a weird request but, yeah I'm sure there's some around here somewhere."
I could hear Darevin chuckling under his breath. I guess it is kinda weird for a werewolf to request peanut butter and jelly but, I haven't eaten it in so long.
"I haven't eaten a PB&J in, I don't know, ten years or so." I said it because I didn't think it would be a big deal. Boy was I wrong.
"Wait. What do you mean you haven't had one in ten years?" Devin asked in disbelief.
"When you live in the woods it's kinda hard to find some just laying around."
"How long have you been a rogue?" This time it was Darevin.
"Uh tomorrow makes eight full years." Only then did i realize I gave them too much information. It would only take one phone call to figure out who I really am. I suddenly wasn't hungry anymore.
"Wait wait wait...you've been a rogue since you were...ten?!" Devin asked after counting down on his fingers.
"Why do you seem so surprised. It's not that uncommon right?"
"For a ten year old to go rogue it is! What happened?!" I felt the immediate shut down. I felt myself start to curl up on the bar stool I was sitting on. I kept shaking my head trying and failing to clear all the memories away. I wouldn't go back down that rabbit hole. That's when I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder. It cleared away the panic and memories. I still couldn't stop myself from flinching away though.
"Devin you can't just ask someone that!" I could hear the rumble in his voice. I could feel the vibrations of Alpha sized anger in the air. I didn't want the Alpha to be mad at his brother over me. I was nobody to get upset over.
"It's fine. I just don't have good memories from my pack is all." And I wanted to just leave the conversation there. "Are you almost done with my sandwich?" My hunger returned in full force.
"Oh yeah! Here ya go! Enjoy the best peanut butter and jelly you've ever had!" Devin said as he put the plate down. He even cut the sandwich in half for me.
"Thank you." I ate in silence. I'm pretty sure the brothers were mindlinking the whole time but, I pretended not to notice.
"We have a room set up for you on the same floor as ours incase you need anything tonight. Are you ready to head up to bed?" Darevin asked with a soft smile. He has a nice smile. Wait what are you thinking Sunny?! Bad wolf!
"Um yeah I'm ready." Exhaustion had been pulling at the back of my mind for hours.
We climbed up the many stories of stairs with me only tripping three times. (How embarrassing)
Sunny has been on the run for over eight years. Life wasn't easy for a measly 10-year-old surviving on her own. Living purely on her werewolf instincts she's survived on her own. Honing her hearing and smell in order to sense danger long before it strikes. She's only ever known loneliness. What happens when she runs into another wolf's territory? Will all her struggling be for naught or will she finally know what it is to live?
