While venturing in the plain wild fields, the twins talked about the witches of the past, the great cleanse, and the church. Both are worried about their master after hearing about the great cleanse. As Reiner expresses her worry, Ericht, the eldest twin, tries to lighten up the mood.
”It’s going to be alright, Reiner!” Cheerfully, happily said by Ericht. However, Reiner is still in an awful mood.
”I can’t be too optimistic like you, my sister. After hearing what the Mage said, the Great Cleanse was led by the Church. I am not sure about the current condition of our master. Also, we might be in great danger now that we know that the Church is trying to make the witches extinct!”
Ericht couldn't respond since Reiner may have had a point. So the two went silent while venturing into the wilderness. However, it did not take long for Ericht to speak again, and she did not allow her ugly emotions to run wild.
”Even so, we are witches. We study witchcraft every day, make potions, and practice battle spells. We are powerful apprentices of our Master! So, even the Church tries to kill us! They won’t be, because we are powerful witches.” With her prideful speech, Reiner calmed and laughed at her sister.
”Right, right. I get it. I get it. We’re powerful witches, so nobody can defeat us!”
“That’s the spirit! Reiner!” Both laugh happily as they continue their journey into the wild fields.
-Past Afternoon-
The two had stopped walking and lay down, sheltering themselves under a large tree. Reiner opened their baskets full of bread with ham and cheese.
”Let’s eat, sister.”
“Okay!”
The two ate peacefully until some wandering knight riding on a horse came up and interrupted their little peace.
”Hello, young ladies,” Greeted the knight. The two looked at each other in curiosity; it was the first time they encountered a knight wandering the wilds. So, they greeted him politely.
”Hello, sir! What a lovely day, isn’t it?” Ericht said.
”Lovely day to you, young lady. Anyway, where are you ladies going off to? It’s dangerous for a young lady like you to venture into the wilds without a guardian or a paid mercenary?” The Wandering Knight questioned quizzically.
The two panicked a little since they might be accused of being witches, and witches are being threatened to this present day. So, Reiner, answered him that they just lived in a nearby village and were having an afternoon picnic. The wandering knight bought the lie, however.
”A nearby village, you say? I was going to the nearby village myself. Might we go to the village together? So that it’ll be safe for you two young ladies to go home,” the knight said eagerly.
The two twin witches was became too cautious of the wandering knight. If they will be caught lying to the man they might be in serious trouble. However, Reiner, the young twin agreed to him.
(Reiner! Are you serious?! We don’t know if there’s a nearby village around here!) whispered Ericht
(Don’t you worry, sister. Following this map the nice beast lady gave to us, we’re somewhere near to a nearby village)
(O-oh… Nice Reiner!)
Ericht brigthens up a smile and gave a sandwich to the wandering knight.
“Want some?”
-Evening-
It’s almost evening, and they were already at the village gates. The wandering knight said his goodbyes to the young ladies as he was about to leave them at the gates.
”Goodbye, young ladies. Be careful on your way home.” As he was about to leave, he gave one of his amethyst stones to them as a sign of protection. Amethyst has the power to protect the user; it can only be used once.
” Goodbye to you, too, mister knight!”
As they said their goodbyes to each other. The two witches find themselves wandering the village searching for an inn to stay, unfortunately, so too does the wandering knight.
“Umm… Do young ladies followed me perhaps?”
”NO!” Hurriedly, they ran to a dark alleyway, hiding from the knight. The knight, wondering why the two hurriedly ran off, gave him a suspicious feeling. A feeling that they might not be living in this village, but some runaway children. So, he followed them in the dark alleyway, catching them in the blink of an eye, he grabbed Ericht’s waist and Reiner’s collar dress.
”Are you two…”
The two gulped and were ready to cast a spell to fight the wandering knight.
“runaway children? Children like you go to an inn just by yourselves, it's way too suspicious, young lads.”
The two haven't been found out as witches, so they think they're safe.
”Runaway?”
“Yes, a runaway. No wonder you two are in the wilderness plains alone, picnicking away from the village without supervision."
“Well…yes, we're runaways!” Said Reiner
“I knew it! You two are so young to be runaways! I should report you two-” The two suddenly squirming around, trying to break free from the knight’s hands. However, the grip was too tight, and they’re too inconspicuous about hiding their power so that they won’t use it on the knight.
”N-NO,” Ericht screamed like it was shouting for help. Not long after, a nearby villager heard their screams and tried to help the children, but the wandering knight lied to the villager that they, her little sisters, were just arguing.
(little sisters? Seriously.) Whispered Ericht. Ericht and Reiner exchanged glances, indicating that they should assist the knight in resolving the conflict.
”Our big brother insisted that we sleep in that inn, but w-we don’t want to!” Lied Reiner.
”Y-yes! Uhh… we want another inn that’s not that cheap!”
”Wh-what?!” The knight was shocked in disbelief that the two children helped him lie to the villager.
”I- I told you girls, that this is all I can afford! So, that inn or sleep on the alleyway!”
The two witches looked at each other again and smiles.
”Ok, big brother!”
“Oh dear…” The wandering knight let out a big sigh of relief, and the villager walked away knowing that it was just a couple of siblings fighting. After that, the knight bought two rooms, one for him and one double bedroom for the twins. The knight then proceeded to the twins' room, intending to resolve their conflicts and have a meaningful chat with them. The twins gasped, fearing that if the knight interrogated them, they would be exposed as witches.
"Let's have a little chat, shall we?" The knight spoke in a serious tone.
“y-yes sir.”
