Chapter 2: Over dinner, Juan and María listen to the old woman’s chilling tale: Many years ago, when the town was still alive, a shadowy traveler arrived in desperate need of kindness. Instead of compassion, the townspeople offered only scorn. In return, the stranger cursed the water of the town’s only well.
Slowly, the darkness trapped in the well began to seep into every inhabitant. The curse drifted through the streets, settling into every corner, until the town succumbed—leaving only absences behind.
