Kaye broke into a run, leaving Bertha behind in a storm of shame and rage. Albrecht pursued her through the crowd.
Albrecht: (Oh no what I've done to scold her?) *Shouted* KAYE, I'M SORRY!
People grew alarmed as she suddenly ran into the busy street. Albrecht was too far behind, trapped by the dense crowd and unable to reach her. He couldn’t shove them aside—not with his mysterious strength.
As she reached a busy street, a memory struck—reality fractured, the world around her blurring into a mist-filled street from somewhere else.
*HONK~!*
A truck’s horn tore through the haze. Her vision snapped back, and she was almost crushed by a meat carriage before the acolyte Morris yanked her out of harm’s way.
Meat Carriage delivery man: HEY WATCH YOUR STEP!
Morris: My apologies!
After Morris saved Kaye, the crowd burst into applause, then quickly dispersed, each person returning to their own business. Albrecht remained standing alone, worry tightening his chest.
When he finally rushed toward Kaye, Morris stepped in front of him, blocking his path with a cold, contemptuous stare.
