The sun has gone down. All the Snowbuddies are returning to their homes to rest after a very tiring day. As the sun is no longer seen in view, the moon and the many stars came to light up the sky. It was a beautiful night sky.
Snowkin went outside her home to look up in the sky. Stargazing has always been one of her favorite hobbies, every night. If she cannot sleep, or want some time to reflect, she could always put her eyes on the stars. She finds a nice and clean spot to stargaze, and places her picnic blanket onto the snowy floor. Her stargazing has just begun.
Snowkin looked at every star, each star forming a different shape, like clouds in the day. “The sky is all dressed up for tonight, decorated with glitter.” she giggled. As she kept looking, she heard a faint singing. A deep but very soft voice, humming a sad but very alluring song.
Snowkin heard that voice, and decided to check it out. As she walked forward, she saw a figure facing upwards in the sky. A Snowbuddy who’s tall and jacked, wearing a cloak made of burlap and patchworks, came to look at the sky in a small hill outside the town.
Snowkin thought to herself, “Why is he singing outside of town, alone?” and was hesitant to approach him as it might interrupt his song. The hooded Snowbuddy kept humming, until he started to sing these words.
“Seek the light, let your wishes take their flight.
When facing harms, starlight will guide your way to my arms.
As the wishes reveal in the sky, the stars fall into your hands in the great night.
Let the voice feel your ears, let the falling stars wipe your tears.
As light returns, I will see you here…”
Snowkin is amazed by his singing voice, she didn’t know he could hit the high notes too. She cannot help but have a silent hand clap, but no matter how quiet it is. He sensed her presence as he looks behind the Snowbuddy who heard his song.
He got a bit embarrassed that somebody heard it, he was too shy to even say a simple “thank you.” Snowkin, politely asked him, “I was wondering if you were singing to the stars tonight. Do the stars like hearing your song?”. The Snowbuddy understands that she's just curious, so he chose to answer her question.
“It's… something… something I would do every time the night sky is clear and full of stars. I would sing a song.”, He said. “I'm Snowkin, I'm just here to stargaze. How about you?” The Snowbuddy was shy, but answered anyway, “Please, call me Hoodie. It's nice to meet you.” He goes back to sit down looking up at the stars.
Snowkin was still curious “Are you part of this town?” “Not really, but I do visit occasionally. It's whenever I need some company, and activities to do.” “Ah, I see. We have a town activity tomorrow, where we'll be making stars, lots of stars!”, “That's nice.” Snowkin went back to the picnic blanket to continue looking at the stars.
As she looks at the many shapes stars form. Hoodie began to sing his song again, the same song as before.
“Seek the light, make the wishes shine through the night.
When stars are bright, the wish starts to come true. To your life.
We'll seize the day, the wish we make.
Will soon prevail, for you.
Darkness will disappear, when I meet you here.
Make the dream come true.”
Snowkin is excited for tomorrow. She'll be crafting wonderful stars. What would she make stars out of? Yarn, Paper or Clay? Stars can be crafted out of anything, so maybe Snowkin is stargazing to have an idea for the activity.
Next morning, it was time for the Art for the Stars, a fun and creative town activity where the Snowbuddies craft wonderful stars out of anything they imagine. It looks like Snowkin just woke up from her sleep. She looked around her bedroom and thought, “Huh, I feel like something's missing…”.
But she shrugs it off, since she doesn't know what's wrong with her bedroom and starts her morning routine downstairs. Is it because of her bed? Or is it the cabinet that's filled with clothes and storage items? She may not know just yet…
The place for the activities are set, banners up high and the table cloth is designed for the occasion. Everybuddy was excited to share their craft with each other. Huck is an intermediate in crafting things with thin basswood, he has made small houses with tiny furniture, the ducks he saw whenever he goes fishing, and now he's making a constellation where the stars form a whale.
Snowkin saw her special buddy's wonderful piece and complimented it, “Wow! Such a clever way to mix a whale with the stars.” Huck smiled and said, “Thanks! I thought of a whale, because of a picture book I read in the library.” “Really now?” Said Snowkin, “I might look into that sometime.”
Snowkin sat down next to Huck and brought out some paper to draw a concept for her own star. She thought of a painting of a shooting star, a paper craft that formed into tiny stars that can be piled up in a glass container, or clay that would be carved and shaped into bright and wonderful stars.
Lots of ideas, but she doesn't know which one is best to make. She noticed that she brought glow-in-the-dark paper, since she has no idea what to do with them, but thought of using it for this activity. As she thought hard on how she would make her craft, she notices the Snowbuddy from last night, Hoodie, arriving to check out the town activity.
He walks around to see each Snowbuddy working on their stars, as he hums a soft but quiet tune. He saw one Snowbuddy carving a star with very complicated details, another making stars out of felt, and another sculpting a pile of stars out of birchwood.
“So many ways to make stars...” He said “I wonder if you hold them tight, you can make a wish with them…”, and moved on to the other side. Snowkin struggled, she made not just one, not two, but EIGHT! Ideas for her craft.
“Oh dear… Is crafting stars that complicated? It's meant to be fun, not stressful!” She yelped faceplanting her head on the table. Huck asked her, concerningly “Have you stargazed last night? You could have at least one inspiration from the stars.”
“I tried thinking of every shape the stars formed for me, but I'm not sure how I am going to pull it off.” She said, “All I could think of is the stars lighting up the dark sky.” This gives Huck an idea that can help her.
“Hey now. How about you make a diorama, but filled with all the stars you gazed upon!” said Huck, hoping this can help his special buddy get inspiration and motivation. Snowkin sees hoodie again, and remembers the lyrics of his song “Hmm… Seek the light, let the wishes shine through the night.”
Then she remembers the glow-in-the-dark paper she had, finally she got herself an idea. “Huck! I think I know what I'm going to make today! Mind if you help me out?” She asked excitedly. Huck chuckled, “Anything that's good, Snowkin.”, and the two started working on the diorama together.
Huck makes a jointed box that can be open and closed, he paints the interior black, while the outside is dark blue. Snowkin starts cutting out some stars that'll be glued in the diorama. Hoodie saw the two working together, he smiled.
As the night falls. Everyone is finished, they all made wonderful stars. Lots of stars were made tonight, and everyone is sharing each other's craft. Kira made stars out of yarn to show to Shivs, “Lovely crochet, Kira! It's like the star is very soft.” He said.
Kira replied “Thanks! And what kind of star did you make?”, Shivs showed his star shaped sun catcher to her. “This special decor!” Kira was amazed but confused “Where's the special part?” She asked politely. That was his cue, and brought out a flashlight to showcase the sun catcher's iridescence as it reflected the light.
Kira was absolutely amazed, she cannot help but say “Incredible!”. Shivs smiled, but heard a sound from behind him, and Kira looked around to see where it's coming from. All the children were laughing and chasing Chilbert holding his lantern of glowing stars attached to a string.
Snowkin holds her box and tells Huck “Thank you so much for helping me out with this.”, Huck replied “Because your creative mind is what got me to your aid, Snowkin.”, and they both smiled together.
The other Snowbuddies went to see Snowkin, curious about what kind of star she made. Snowkin smiled and opens up the box and reveals a lot of glowing stars lighting up around the box. Everyone was amazed at how bright the stars were.
Kira asks “Snowkin! How did you make so many stats like that?” As Snowkin was about to answer, a singing voice was heard, it wasn't just Snowkin this time, but everyone else. Hoodie was singing the same song as before, but was more intense. All the Snowbuddies were listening.
Then the stars began to twinkle, glowing brightly. Snowkin and her buddies’ eyes widen as his voice brings the stars to light up the entire sky. It was glorious. Maybe this is Hoodie's craft for the activity, but we will never know.
Snowkin looked at the sky, and looked down on her diorama, and thought “Huh, maybe that's what's been missing in my bedroom…”, and with that thought in mind. She filled her room with glowing stars with the remaining glow-in-the-dark paper she had.
Now Snowkin can stargaze in her room, and not just outside, and she was happy.
The End
