Uncle Scrooge & Donald Duck in: The Sword of the Archangel

Chapter 11: A Spell for the Ages

Chapter 11: A Spell for the Ages

Apr 25, 2026

The Duck family have found themselves in an occasion most fortuitous.

Trapped in the palms of evil, Donald and his band of explorers were now under the capture of the whimsically vile Magica De Spell. Magica was a wicked sorceress. Her fiendishness was familiar, yet terrifying to the plucky Duck family. Anyone foolish enough to cross paths with the magician should tread lightly. Magica was not known to let her victims leave her presence the same way they arrived.

“Have some décor, my friend. You would not want to be next, would you?” Magica playfully waved.

The ducks were appalled at Magica’s presence. They made their grievances known, demanding to know how such an enchanting hag could pervert the sanctity of a holy place. But Magica had her reasons.

“Why, isn’t it obvious?” Magica teased, “If I’m here, then you must be in search of redemption.”

“Bah!” Scrooge vociferated, “Leaving you in my rearview is the only redemption I’ll need.”

“Oh, but Scrooge. You should not be so quick to judge,” Magica glibbed. “It would be utterly devastating if one were to speak ill of their fortune. And what is more valuable than a fortune, hm? A crystal? A penny? Or maybe even… a dime?”

“Why you conniving little-…”

“Ah, ah, ahhh~. It is blasphemous to swear in a sacred place. Now hush!”

With the wave of her hands, she chained the explorers to the walls. She now had an audience primed to learn about her latest scheme.

“You see, boys. I’ve been ever so desperate for that sword ever since I learned of its existence,” Magica began, “Just imagine… infinite power at the palm of your hand. You could move mountains, command the seas, and even wield the power of the GODS.”

Magica swooned as she reminisced about such power. She almost fell over herself just thinking about its aggressive form. From the way Magica adjusted her dress, one would think that she had a romantic fling with a ravishing beast. How disgusting.

“Only once in my youth have I ever felt such power,” the witch moaned, “The breadth of energies caressing my skin. Ooh~! I just get chills whenever I think about it. Ah~! How I yearn for such a feeling once again.”

“Well, ain’t cha daft, ya’ dumb witch. The sword isn’t real!” Scrooge remarked.

“But it is true, dear Scroogeykins. Have you never read ‘The Word’? And besides, if that power did not exist, then I would not have gone out of my way to put those visions in dear old Donald’s head. Eee-hee-hee-hee-hee!”

The revelation was loud and clear. All their efforts—their trials and tribulations—were just a setup by the salacious sorceress. Everyone was taken aback by her exposé, but none more so than Donald Duck. The sailor’s eyes darted across the room as his mind pieced everything together. Not only did Magica violate his mind, but he essentially led her to the sword.

To make matters worse, his actions may have led her to the sword, fundamentally putting both his family and the world in grave danger. But maybe Magica’s appearance was just a coincidence. Maybe this was just another scheme to get her hand on Scrooge’s lucky dime. Sadly, Donald’s migraine said otherwise. Suddenly, Donald’s mind drifted into a prolonged state of comatose. His body shut down, leaving him with only a faint muffle of monologues.

Magica subtly waved her hand and said, “I just knew that I had to travel all this way to find it for myself! I tracked the sword’s power to this location. Unfortunately, this crystal cavern refused to kneel to my demands. I think they’re having an effect on me. Just even standing where we are is shaking me to the point where I could just turn into dust with a snap!”

“With that much detail, I wish you did…” Louie grumbled, prompting Magica to respond with an inquisitive glare.

“Where was I?” Magica grumbled, “Oh yes! Yearning for knowledge, I picked up one of those little scrolls just near the Dead Sea. It provided me with exactly what I needed to find this place! I bartered with many men just to get them to pass the tests. But none of them could read a hint of that babbling text! Not to mention those STUPID trials that they failed over and over again. All while I tried to survive the blistering sun. Oh, the heat! But with every man that had come and gone, I learned something about this place. Something which my scroll taught me clear as day. ‘For only that which is pure & free. The truth of the Holy Land they will all see.’”

“But, why Donald?” Scrooge loudly interrupted, “The boy’s no saint! Why… he still believes in old wives’ tales like some Foolhardy McCoy!”

“Your tongue is as sharp as your manners. But that is also where you are wrong!” Magica declared, “The boy is pure and much easier to manipulate. Oh-ho! I had it all planned out when I planted that story in the papers. Out of all the fools in your little crumb of a town, Donald was the quickest to take the bait! And now that he has led me to the end, the truth of the Holy Land shall belong to me!! Eee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee!”

Magica had her audience in tow. However, one man dared to defy her. Once again, Alumak scoffed at the folly seen before him. He balked at Magica, throwing doubt at her ability to sway a group as hedonistic as the MaliQuack-Tud to her cause.

Alumak warned that she would be in for a rude awakening if they knew her true identity. But what he failed to remember was that in this country, the men take particular interest in a woman who is willing to even show her heels. A little hypnosis also helped.

“Enough gab!” Scrooge decried, “You want this treasure so badly, yer gonna hafta put up a fight!”

“Very well,” Magica agreed as she released her captives, “Let us fight!”

Alumak and the triplets charge at Magica and her minions. The heroes stand up against Magica. But their efforts would prove to be futile.

Magica’s army was great, even in the shadows. That power would be demonstrated with the outing of the cave’s singular light. Once the lights went out, the body blows commenced.

"Nyeh Heh-heh-heh-heh-hehhhh!! Not even the power of this foolhardy author can contain the power of Magica De Spell! You had better be careful. Otherwise you readers would be better off floating around as pondscum!"

Oh, that Magica! Why did I even invite her into my office?
