Uncle Scrooge & Donald Duck in: The Sword of the Archangel

Chapter 15: A Glorious Duck and a Gracious End

Chapter 15: A Glorious Duck and a Gracious End

May 23, 2026

The defeat of Magica was felt throughout the land. Her retreat broke the cave of its chains, cleansing an uneasy realm from its curse. The demon’s prisoners were laid to rest, and the mortals were able to see the light once again.

Now freed from Magica’s curse, the mortals sat at the center of the subterranean cave, awestruck at the treasures that stood before them. The sword was real, and it was more beautiful than the legend delineated. Scrooge, Alumak, and the triplets were entranced. To them, they must be the first—the only—mortals to ever be witness to such a powerful artifact. But a discovery greater than the sword’s reveal was the angel that wielded it.

Many have heard rumors about angels and the power they possess. By his stance alone, this angel created a foreboding presence. The mortals quickly fell to their knees. A being as powerful as this deserved the utmost in respect.

“Please. Do not kneel,” the angel requested, “Stand before me.”

The angel watched the mortals stand. He observed them, staring not at their person, but at their eternal souls. Among them all, Uncle Scrooge drew the angel’s deepest focus.

Uncle Scrooge had a strong exterior, yet he trembled from within. The sharpness in his eyes dulled as the angel gazed in his direction. He tried to gesture towards his nephews and towards Alumak, but the angel did not waver. Rather, the angel understood his plight.

A grueling journey can weigh heavily on a man like Scrooge. When a man like him is planted firmly in his views, it is often difficult to break from such shackles. Men like Scrooge dare not look inward when in such a godly presence, not without being reminded of his iniquities. But like those men, Scrooge did not know that the angel, and even its master, felt just the same.

Scrooge would turn away from the angel, believing he was not worthy of forgiveness. But to his surprise, the angel came to him and pulled him into a loving embrace. The angel shed tears as he hugged Uncle Scrooge. As it cried, so did he.

The angel’s hug deeply touched Scrooge. Suddenly, the miser was flooded with decades of memories, even ones he swore to keep buried away. It had been a long time since he experienced such love. No amount of money or respect could fill such a chasm. For a moment, Scrooge felt he could hug someone other than himself. For the first time in his life, Scrooge was cleansed.

And the others would partake in such a cleansing. They all burst into tears as they hugged the angel, all with a smile to show their contentment. He would even thank them for all that they accomplished.

“You have proved your worthiness this day,” the angel spoke, “And you have ensured that this world created by Him shall live another day.”

While the angel’s gratitude was eternal, he knew that the mortals remained stricken with grief. It would be unfair to celebrate at a time like this. The divine being knew the mortals would be lying to themselves. But nothing hurt the angel more than the sight of grieving children.

The angel embraced the children the most, holding them against the warmth of his coat. The children hugged him back, trying their best not to cry. One of them, however, would tug at his coat. The angel gave him his full attention as the child said, “M-mister Angel? Sir? P-p-p-lease... Can we have our Unca’ Donald back?” The angel’s eyes widened. Congruently, the other children would come to him with the same request.

“Y-yeah, Mister Angel! Please, give us our uncle back!” the other triplets begged.

Once again, the angel’s curiosity grew. But the children were not the only ones who wanted this person back in their grasp. Even the hardened soldier would convey a similar wish.

“It would be most generous if…” Alumak choked, “If we could have that laughing duck return.”

It seemed that everyone wanted this “Donald” back. The moment made the angel look up to the hole in the ceiling. Afterwards, the angel would slowly lower his head. Without looking, he asked them if Donald’s return was their truest desire. Immediately, everyone affirmed their requests. Everyone except Uncle Scrooge.

The miser kept quiet, still processing his thoughts. If this angel could bring anything to fruition, he could have it all. He could have had the sword and wealth greater than the wealth he has today. And yet, it meant nothing if there was no one to share it with. Especially if that sharing was an endless gloat.

But in his heart of hearts, Scrooge’s raw emotion overtook his earthly needs. He turned to the angel with a face drowning in tears and uttered softly, “Please, Mister Angel… For a stuck-up old man. Nothin’ would make me happier than to… to… Oh! I just want me’ Donald back!” Scrooge fell to his knees as he made his decree.

“Then it shall be done,” The angel complied, “But you must vow to never return. Nor should you ever tell a soul of this place or the events that occurred, lest you be revoked of your blessings.”

The mortals vowed secrecy and vowed never to return to this place. The angel felt their honesty and smiled. His hope shone once more. The angel was about to grant them their wish, only to pause when one of the children asked them about Magica. The angel simply remarked that her memory was wiped upon her exile. If not, then it would be gone the further she ran from the Holy Land.

Now that all was set in stone, the angel carried out his request. First, he returned the sword to the center of the platform. Through its given power, the angel shouted proclamations most high. As he called to his master, the sword would be consumed by a bright light.

The light was witnessed by its fearful mortals. The angel saw this and preached, propagating their accomplishments this day. He begged that mercy be granted for the mortals, mercy for the explorers, and the people of the land. The angel prayed for atonement in exchange for the sword’s return, hoping to absolve the people of their great sin.

The light consumed the sword, but remained unsteady. They did not know it, but “He” was watching them through the light. He had half a mind to punish all of them, especially for what they almost allowed to happen. But alas, “He” decided today would not be such a day. Instead, “He” obliged to his angel’s request and took the sword back to the heavens above. Finally, the sword returned to its rightful place in God’s armory.

The return of the sword resulted in a wave of blessings for all of Arabia. For the first time in centuries, the lands far and wide were overcome with peace. The people of Jerusalem took pause. For the first time in a long time, they chose not to fight. They chose not to panic. They chose not to war. They felt peaceful within themselves and their land. They were unsure of how long such peace could last, but they vowed to cherish it for as long as possible.

Back in the cave, God’s beam returned to the skies. His love showered the angel. The angel rose from the ground and took flight. The angel’s joy scintillated the mortals, and before they knew it, they began to fly. The mortals rose up like the angel and followed him to the skies. They followed the angel, crying out in joy as the taste of eternity covered their souls. It was an amazing feeling.

“Wheee!” shouted the tripets, “We can fly!”

“Oh, whoa!” Scrooge exclaimed, “Oi, I don’t think I’ve ever felt anything like this! Wahooey!”

“Hey!” yelled Louie, “I can see the light! We’re almost outside!”

“That’s right, me’ boy!” Scrooge replied, “And it’s beautiful!”

Before they knew it, the mortals were greeted by a sight as beautiful as could be. Among a sunset was a desaturated land. The sun’s rays glistened against the sands, creating a vision only seen in the most detailed murals. Such sights made the mortals’ eyes glisten. It was beautiful.

“That is not the only beauty I see,” the angel uttered.

The angel smiled as another burst of tears trickled down his cheeks. The sight of the group overwhelmed him with joy. Though in some ways, he knew that this was the end of their gathering.

“Even though we will separate, we will not say goodbye,” The angel said in valediction. “May you continue to glorify Him through your generosity as you did with me. I pray that I shall see you all again someday. Then we all can have more fun the way He intended. Amen?”

“Amen!” cheered the mortals.

It was time for the angel to part from this world. The angel made sure to give everyone another embrace, as well as a handshake. Such acts confirmed that they would meet again, and it was time to grant the mortals their wish. The angel would carefully step away from the mortals, allowing a beam of light to take him.

Through the shimmering light, the angel’s silhouette transformed. The mortals watched as his spirit left the mortal plane, returning to the skies above. But what it left behind was a vessel. The vessel that brought life to the angel would bring life to the mortals once more. What once was hidden under the cloak of the archangel was revealed to be none other than that plucky, ever-so-lucky sailor, Donald Duck.

“UNCA’ DONALD!” the triplets cheered.

“Ugh…” Donald groaned, “My head…”

“You’re back! You’re back!” the triplets exclaimed, “Yippee!”
