The Arcane Tamer

Ch. 4 - Mother's Care (1)

Ch. 4 - Mother's Care (1)

Feb 07, 2026

Moments have passed from the study session, which was held for a few hours. The light-blue sky started blending with shades of orange from the sun. The tutor has been long gone.

Right now, Seyric sat by the couch in the living room. A book seated on his lap as he flipped through some pages and glanced at the doorway that led to the entrance hall.

While Ikaria stood behind the door as she held it open. She was greeted by a man who stood tall by the doorway.

He was tall and well-built feature. He wore a black suit, while a chalk-white cloth with ripple had clutched his suit's neckline.

Ikaria's eyes shined as she met his deep-red eyes, which stared into her soul. She wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned on his shoulder. "I missed you."

"Me too."

His silver mid-length hair dangled at the side of her face, and he hugged her back tightly for a long time.

"How was work, honey?" She added.

"Tiring. How is he doing...?"

Euris leaned closer to her chestnut-brown hair as he savored the fragrance it emitted.

"Oh, his very naughty." She whispered as she buried her face over his shoulder.

Euris chuckled as he pulled away from her, both hands on her shoulders. "What happened this time?"

"He sneaked into your study."

"Oh, I could tell he will..."

"And bruised his head." Ikaria added.

Euris couldn't help to smile ear to ear and intensely stared at her face. "You must go through a lot, honey. I've only gone for been few days. Your face already wrinkled."

Ikaria glared at him as she looked away.

Euris pinched his wife's cheeks as her eyes glanced his way, "I was kidding."

Ikaria pulled his hands away from her face as she pulled him inside the house before she shut the door behind him.

While Seyric heard the commotion from the entrance, he hurried to close the book and marched towards the door. His father faced his mother as he appeared by the archway.

"Father!" He ran towards his way.

"Come here." Euris knelt to his level and he carried Seyric's body and leaned him on his shoulder.

While Seyric suddenly hugged the side of his shoulder.

Euris smiled widely from his son's reaction.

"I heard you sneak to my study."

Seyric pulled his head away while he lowered his gaze.

Euris pointed the cloth around his forehead. "You know I said that you shouldn't get hurt."

"I'm sorry, father..."

"I don't forbid you to enter my study, except try not to get hurt, okay?"

Seyric nod immediately his head.

His father patted his head, fingers brushed through his hair, a familiar shade passed down from his mother. At the same time, Seyric stared at his father's face, and his lips never lost a smile.

Moments later, Ikaria opened the door of Seyric's room, and he rushed to enter his room and plopped onto the soft bed.

The study table was a mess book that was left open.

Ikaria's lit up the lamp on the wall before she placed them on the table. Then faced her son, who fixed himself in the bed.

"Come on, honey... It's time for bed."

Seyric finally laid down and kept his stare at his mother.

"Mom, can you sing me a lullaby...?" As he fluttered his eyelashes.

Ikaria stared into his eyes.

"Hm, sure."

She sat from the bedside and uttered a soft harmonic tone.

What filled up Seyric's mind was a tingle of ease and a mood uplift in his ears.

Ikaria patted her son's head as she continued to create an angelic sound that echoed inside the room.

Seyric's fixed gaze was on his mother, and he smiled softly.

Not too long after, Seyric's eyes started to become exhausted and, little by little, would briefly shut before he drifted off to sleep.

Ikaria started to fix the cover and tucked her son inside. While she carefully eyed his face and caressed his cheeks, couldn't hold back a smile that reached her eyes.

But then all those gentle care and hint of a smile were lost when she had the thought of the scenario in her head.

She pressed her lips tight as fell from her cheeks.

It always hunted her emotions and sanity for years and years, even if it had happened so long ago.

Her mind drifted from the scene of a distant past.

---

Euris cast his final spell on the mage.

The mage eventually fell over as cold sweat streamed over his body before he cast a spell on himself as vanished from the ground.

Euris finally sighed in relief, except when he faced the carriage, his complexion paled as his body shook all over.

The dark spirit floated above the carriage as a bright light from the carriage transferred to his body, boosted up his strength and mana inside him.

Tears fell from Euris' eyes as his hands lit a violent white light. He screamed at the top of his lungs. "Disposal of Divine Seal!"

Suddenly, he released a long, violent beam from his hands. The shaft emitted a divine aura of holiness, and the bright scene engulfed the forest.

The white mystical beam struck the dark spirit and groaned. His mist pierced his body, his dark smoke erupted and engulfed it. His body painfully throbbed.

He immediately cast himself into instant teleportation and vanished from the air with the dark mist, his aura no longer remained.

The dark clouds from the sky started to disperse, and the bright sky appeared again, lit up the forest scape.

Without hesitation, Euris ran towards the carriage. "Honey, honey?"

He called as he reached the door and started to bang the carriage door.

No sound responded as his heart dropped to his stomach.

His face became complex, and he shouldered a heavy weight. The burst of emotions suddenly ate up his strength.

He shook his head, tried to shake off his thoughts, and asked again. "Honey! Do you hear me?"

As it responded only to silence, he gathered a small amount of mana from his hand. He blasted the carriage door and crushed it into pieces. He found his wife unconscious.

With her hands, she held a pale child.

Euris immediately grabbed his son into his arms.

Seyric's chest moved slowly and barely. His lips were pale, and his skin was cold. He was so fragile in a second, his breath would stop.

Euris' squinted his eyes as he traveled back to his wife. His pupils dilated more, and he tried to tug her shoulder. "Honey? Honey, wake up!"

"Father...I want to become a Tamer."

His father's eyes widened, and he asked, "What do you mean?"

In a world full of magic, Seyric's father work as a mage for Kingdom. With the knowledge of his father, mage class was a bright future ahead of him.

Not until the incident happened, which it almost cost him his life.

His Mana Core was almost destroyed, and being a Mage was impossible. Even though despite those burdens he manages to find a key.

It was still connected to magic, the class which is known as taming.

With his long journey ahead of him, he'd be able to meet many companions along the way, except the part that lies ahead and is still challenging... No matter what confidence he has in himself, he is still weak... but his will is stronger.

No matter how hard his life would be. He will do his best to fight until the last breath.

"I would rather die than keep being a coward."
