Author's Note:
This comic contains dark themes. However, I will use these with intention, not gratuitously, and not without careful measure.
We will not be dwelling on the dark and miserable merely for the sake of it. This is not a story about celebrating the dark. It is about someone stepping into the light.
Additionally, there are many stories to tell, but for some, we will let Nerys keep her privacy. The tears of a hungry child, her cries when her hair is forcibly cut—these distressing scenes need not be shown.
In the end, I tell this story in order that we may reflect on our condition; on our collective human experiences and struggles. I hope you will reflect with me.
In olden times, especially thick and powerful pieces of armor were crafted to withstand every sort of trauma. The dents that the testing created were the proof. Then firearms came, and they were more powerful, and so the armor was crafted to withstand them, and when they were shot, that dent became known as the bullet proof. This story follows Nerys, a girl who is the victim of terrible misfortune, and who will conquer every one of these, her labours, *her* "bullet proof."
This comic is inspired by the likes of Crime and Punishment, Les Miserables, and other literature that reflect at length on the human condition. It is also inspired by The Decemberists and The Crane Wives. Ultimately, it is an uplifting story. Please believe that.
