“Oh nice, we made it,” I said.
After I convinced Aurora to walk instead of calling an uber, we arrived at the golf course even faster than we predicted.
If you really think about it, we both participated in sports so it wasn’t unnatural for us to be fast walkers.
Anyway, we quickly entered the area and Aurora took a few minutes to get us inside.
Once we could enter, I noticed how massive the course actually was.
All around me for miles was just trees and grass that were intricately designed for the optimal golfing experience.
I had never really been to a golf course, and definitely not one of this scale.
‘This is…really big.’
Maybe I let my amazement slip onto my face because Aurora made a confused expression.
“You’ve never been to a golf course before?” She asked with a hint of teasing.
I slightly panicked internally and quickly blurted out, “Of course I have.”
My words were said out of fear, but they weren’t an accident.
I lied, fully on purpose. Without a real reason to do so.
‘I'm such a coward.’
Aurora’s expression remained the same, keeping me in the dark about whether she caught onto my lie or not.
“Oh okay then. Since you know golf already, let’s get started,” Aurora said.
“Sounds good,” I replied.
Then, we went to the start of the course and began our first game.
I knew the basic rules of golf so luckily I wasn’t entirely clueless, but I still didn’t like my chances against Aurora.
Our first strokes were pretty solid, each of our tee shots went pretty far and there wasn’t a clear lead so far.
But as the game progressed and we got closer to the hole, the gap in skill was pretty obvious.
When we finally got within a few feet of the hole, I was pretty defeated.
‘I thought she only played golf when she was a kid?!’
By the time we were putting, Aurora was 5 strokes ahead of me even though we both weren’t very experienced.
Her strokes were skilled and pretty precise while mine were…embarrassing, to say the least.
Although, I should’ve expected this. Aurora’s talent at sports was far superior to mine.
“Dang, it looks like you're struggling a lot there aren’t you?” Aurora teased as she watched me miss the hole by a few inches.
She had made her stroke before mine and was now waiting until I did the same.
‘I bet she’s really enjoying my suffering right now. I really shouldn’t have teased her so much about her intelligence before.’
As I missed another stroke, I internally wallowed in sorrow.
“I’ll help you out.”
After Aurora said that, she walked over to me and placed her hands on top of mine.
‘She’s really close.’
Her hands were soft and strangely warm. I could feel her face only a few inches away from mine.
I felt a bit awkward, but I didn’t dislike it.
“Position yourself like this,” She said softly as she adjusted my hands and feet.
“Now, hit the ball gently. Like you’re poking it,” Aurora instructed, motioning her arms with mine.
Once the club made contact with ball, it slowly rolled and smoothly rolled right into the hole.
“There. Now you don’t suck,” Aurora said as she backed away from me.
My eyebrow twitched.
“Screw you.”
From there, we played a good few more rounds.
Unfortunately, Aurora did better than me in every single one of them.
It was frustrating, but it was also a lot of fun.
We got to be silly and we got to talk, just like usual.
And I liked hanging out with her like that.
Eventually, we started to get tired and decided to stop for the day.
“I’m famished,” I muttered as we left the golf course.
“Stop being fancy and say you’re hungry like a normal person,” Aurora replied.
“Fineeee. I’m hungry. Let’s get something to eat,” I said.
“See? Isn’t that so much easier?” She said with a smirk.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.”
We took some time to find somewhere to eat due to Aurora’s very pickiness, but fortunately there was a diner nearby that she liked.
It was well maintained and had a retro aesthetic. Probably not exactly what Aurora was used to, but decent enough for her to try.
Once we entered and got seated, we talked for a little bit until it was time to order.
When the waiter came to take our orders, I got a burger while Aurora got a steak.
While we waited for our food, Aurora decided to question me.
“So how’d you like our first date?” Aurora asked nonchalantly.
I paused for a moment.
‘Oh right, this is the first time I’ve ever been on a date and my first date with Aurora. I was so focused on the date, I didn’t even realize.’
The date was actually a really fun experience for me which was a relief.
I wasn’t sure how my relationship would change once we started dating, so I was glad we were still able to have fun like before.
After all, Aurora was someone I cared for a lot.
“It was great, I enjoyed it a lot. Did you?” I replied with a smile.
Aurora smiled.
“Yeah, I did too.”
For the rest of our time together, Aurora and I conversed with each other.
Once we got our food, we began eating. Although, Aurora wasn’t a big fan of her steak.
After we finished our food, we said our goodbyes and went our separate ways.
Usually I would’ve walked her home, but she took a cab so I didn’t need to.
In the end, I ended up walking home by myself as I watched the sunset.
‘Thank you God. I had a really good day today.’
For once, my mind was empty, only with that single thought.
I wasn’t cursed with overthinking.
Instead, I just enjoyed my peaceful walk.
And that was a beautiful thing.
