Elyndor: eyes of the unseen

The confrontation

The confrontation

Feb 24, 2026

Mist hung low between the tall trees of Thornvyl Forest.
A wooden chariot moved slowly along a narrow forest path. The wheels creaked with each turn, and the horse’s breath was visible in the cold morning air.
Inside the chariot, dim light filtered through torn cloth curtains.
Eryx lay on the wooden floor, still pretending. His breathing was uneven, and occasionally his fingers twitched slightly.
Vihaan and Liorin sat against opposite wooden sides, silent, avoiding eye contact.
The chariot jolted slightly as it rolled over a stone.
Eryx let out a faint groan.
Through the front curtain, the silhouette of the Scarred Man was visible. He rode steadily, unbothered.
Vihaan’s hand rested near his waist.
He subtly touched the folded map hidden inside his clothing. His jaw tightened as he looked at Liorin.
She gave the slightest nod.
They were committed now.
“Is he still breathing?”
The Scarred Man’s voice came without turning.
“He hasn’t stopped,” Liorin replied calmly.
The Scarred Man snorted lightly.
“Don’t let him die before we reach the doctor.”
There was no sympathy in his voice. Only efficiency.
Outside, the forest grew denser. Light became thinner between the trees.
Then suddenly—
The birds stopped chirping.
Silence deepened.
The chariot rolled into the Thornvyl Border Market.
The place was not crowded—but alive.
Wooden stalls lined the area. Hunters traded hides. Smoke rose from cooking pits. Children ran between crates.
The Scarred Man slowed the chariot slightly as he scanned lazily.
Inside the chariot, Eryx remained on the floor.
Liorin watched the curtain gap carefully.
Vihaan shifted slightly.
The sound of market chatter covered small movements.
The perfect opportunity.
Vihaan slowly pulled the folded Thornvyl map from his waist.
His breathing became deeper as he stretched his hand toward the back of the chariot. The curtain moved slightly with the wind.
His hand emerged outside.
The map hidden in his palm.
Market noise suddenly felt distant.
His heartbeat grew louder.
Memories flashed through his mind.
A younger Vihaan trapped in the forest.
Darkness closing in.
Kael extending a hand.
Vihaan riding behind Kael on horseback.
Safety.
Trust.
Back in the present, his hand trembled slightly.
Not from fear of being caught.
But from fear of betraying someone who once saved him.
“I have to do this,” he whispered under his breath.
He closed his eyes.
And released the map.
It slipped from his fingers and fell silently behind the chariot. Dust rose lightly as it landed near a stack of wooden crates.
Market noise rushed back in.
The chariot kept moving.
The Scarred Man remained unaware.
Inside the chariot, Vihaan slowly pulled his hand back inside.
He opened his eyes and looked at Liorin.
She understood immediately and gave a small nod.
Eryx opened one eye slightly.
They exchanged the faintest look of relief.
Not celebration.
Not smiles.
Just acknowledgment.
Behind the chariot, a Thornvyl merchant bent down to pick up something that had fallen.
His hand reached toward the folded map.
The chariot moved slowly past the last row of stalls.
Forest road ahead.
Open space behind.
Inside, silence lingered after the drop.
Liorin leaned forward slightly.
“I think… we should go back.”
The Scarred Man asks without turning.
“Why?”
Liorin glanced at Eryx.
Eryx slowly sat up, rubbing his head.
“I’m fine. Just need rest… and food.”
He forced a small, tired smile.
The Scarred Man pulled the reins slightly.
The chariot slowed.
He thought for a long moment.
Then he looked ahead toward the deeper forest road—and back toward the camp direction.
Finally, he pulled the reins harder.
The chariot turned.
They were heading back.
Inside the chariot, Eryx leaned back down.
Vihaan lowered his gaze, hiding relief.
Liorin closed her eyes for one second.
They believed they were safe.
But outside the market, a Thornvyl merchant unfolded the map.
His expression changed.
He whispered something to a nearby man wearing forest-green arm wraps.
The man nodded once and walked calmly into the trees.
Later that day, inside Kael’s room, late afternoon light filtered through a wooden window.
Kael stood facing the forest outside.
Hands crossed behind his back.
Still.
Unmoving.
Footsteps approached.
The Scarred Man entered quietly.
“I think… we are safe now.”
Kael remained silent.
“Are you… one hundred percent sure?” he asked.
The Scarred Man hesitated.
“…No. but I think....”
kael: "are you sure?"
scarred man: "no"
A sudden slap landed across his face.
Sharp.
Precise.
Kael stepped closer.
“Remember this,” he said quietly.
“If Thornvyl soldiers attack us…”
He stopped.
He didn’t need to finish.
The message was clear.
Kael left the room.
And the Scarred Man finally realized—
He was replaceable.
Scene changes to
High on a forested hill stood a Thornvyl command post.
Inside, a commander with sharp green eyes studied the map.
Aeralith Camp.
“They built it here,” he said quietly.
Then he gave the order.
“Prepare the men.”
“No horns. No noise.”
“Silent approach.”
“We will move before sunset.”
By late afternoon, the Aeralith camp looked calm.
Guards stood outside, relaxed.
They believed they were unseen.
In the forest shadows, Thornvyl soldiers waited.
Still.
Silent.
Then the first arrow flew.
One guard dropped instantly.
Then another.
And another.
Within seconds, the entire perimeter fell.
Thornvyl soldiers emerged from the forest, surrounding the camp.
Inside the building, everything changed.
The door exploded inward.
Arrows streaked across the room.
Chaos erupted.
Children ran in panic.
Vihaan grabbed Liorin’s wrist.
Eryx forced himself up.
They dove beneath a heavy wooden bed.
From there, they watched everything unfold.
Boots rushed past.
Furniture crashed.
Screams faded one by one.
Then silence returned.
A Thornvyl commander stepped into the room and gave a signal.
Soldiers moved upstairs.
The trio remained hidden.
Terrified.
Upstairs—
The real confrontation waited.
At the end of the hallway stood a single closed door.
Kael’s room.
The commander opened it.
Kael stood by the window.
Calm.
Waiting.
“Kael Verix,” the commander said.
“The shadow of Aeralith, a man whose plans never fails”

Kael finally turned.
“And yet… you are here.”
The commander drew his sword.
“You underestimated Thornvyl.”
Kael tilted his head slightly.
“No.”
“I accounted for you.”
Silence filled the room.
Then Kael raised his hand.
Dark energy gathered.
A blade formed in his palm.
Inside the room, two leaders stood facing each other.
Blades ready.
No fear.
No hesitation.
Just inevitability.
