Chapter 1: Kasane Arisato !

Chapter 1: Kasane Arisato !

Mar 06, 2026

Sound fades in.

[Soft lo-fi beat playing faintly through headphones.]

[Subway doors sliding shut.]

[A mechanical chime: “Next stop, Shibuya Station.”]

Kasane Arisato rested her chin on the cold subway window, city lights rushing past like streaks of color on wet glass. The rhythm of the train matched the song in her earphones—steady, dreamlike, full of bass and nostalgia.

Outside, Tokyo pulsed. Every tunnel hum, every neon flicker felt alive. To anyone else, it was noise. To her, it was music.

Kasane (monologue)

“People always say Tokyo never sleeps… but I think it dreams.

Every light, every voice—like a thousand hearts trying to find harmony.

I don’t know if I’m here to listen… or to change the tune.”

Distant laughter echoes down the subway car.

A group of students wearing Nova Academy uniforms joked at the other end, their badges glinting in the fluorescent light. Kasane adjusted her jacket and turned the volume up.

[Song intensifies slightly—faint electric guitar blending with raindrops on glass.]

She was leaving behind everything familiar, the silence of a life too ordinary for her restless heart.

Now she was heading straight into the core of it all: Nova Academy, the training ground for the Scarlet Guardians—Tokyo’s defenders against resonance anomalies. Only people who are gifted enough to see and fight the anomalies can attend.

She didn’t look nervous.

She just looked ready.

Kasane (monologue)

“I’m not here to be a hero. I’m just here to finish what THEY started…”

The train slowed.

The announcer’s voice crackled through the intercom:

[“Shibuya Station. Doors will open on the left.”]

As the doors hissed open, a flood of cool air and chatter swept in—vendors calling, footsteps echoing, street musicians strumming somewhere above. Kasane stepped out, her boots clicking on the platform tiles, her music still whispering in her ears.

[Faint sounds of crosswalk beeps, wind rushing through tall buildings, a distant police siren.]

She paused at the top of the stairs leading into Shibuya Crossing.

Above her, the screens blazed advertisements in blinding color.

For a moment, everything froze—traffic lights flashing red and green, people waiting for the signal, her reflection blending into the ocean of neon.

Kasane (softly)

“Welcome to Shibuya, Kasane. Try not to get lost in the sauce.”

The signal changed.

The crowd moved.

And so did she—just another face in Tokyo’s heartbeat.

[Beat fades, replaced by the distant roll of thunder.]

A faint static tickled her right earbud. She stopped mid-crosswalk, confused.

The song had glitched, but for an instant she could’ve sworn she heard a voice through the interference—low, almost whispering:

“…Ko..ri…”

Kasane blinked. The sound vanished. Took her right bud off.

She shook her head and chuckled nervously.

Kasane (monologue)

“Great…Day one in Tokyo, and my playlist’s already haunted huh?”

She crossed to the other side just as the first drop of rain hit the pavement.

The city lights reflected in the puddles, turning the world upside down.

And somewhere deep beneath Shibuya, far below the electric rails and sleeping subways…

something ancient pulsed once in answer to her heartbeat.

[Thunder. Screen fades to black.]

Soundscape:

[Rain drizzling on umbrellas. Distant traffic splashing through puddles. Lo-fi beat muffled through earphones.]

The rain is steady now. Streetlights painted everything gold and blue. She checked the glowing map on her phone — Nova Academy Dormitory East, 2 km walk — then sighed.

Kasane (monologue)

*sigh* “Two kilometers. In boots. Guess I’ll call that training.”

She slipped her phone away, hood up, and started walking. The city felt bigger at night—skyscrapers breathing mist, signs flickering like tired eyes. Every so often she glanced up at the neon and wondered how anyone could sleep with so much color above them.

Turning the corner near a convenience store, she nearly collided with someone coming out.

[Soft impact. A bag hits the pavement.]

“Ah! I-I’m so sorry!” a voice gasped.

Kasane blinked. A girl with silver hair crouched to gather her things—notebooks, a half-spilled drink, a badge that read NOVA ACADEMY – KRYSTAL A.

Kasane bent down, handing over a notebook. “Uh..Sorry... Didn’t see you.”

Krystal smiled, brushing rain from her bangs. “No, no—totally my fault! I was texting and walking—rookie mistake.” She tilted her head, studying Kasane’s phone map leading to the dorms. “Wait, are you… a student?”

Kasane nodded. “First year…just moved here.”

Krystal’s eyes lit up. “No way! You’re joining Nova too? That’s perfect—I was just heading back to the dorms!”

Kasane adjusted her bag strap. “You… know where that is?”

“Of course! C’mon, I’ll walk with you there.” Krystal’s voice had the kind of warmth that filled the silence Kasane usually left empty.

They walked side-by-side under the awnings. The rain softened to mist. Neon reflections rippled across the puddles beneath their boots.

Krystal: “So, where’re you from? You sound like you’re not local.”

Kasane: “…Up north.”

Krystal: “Cool! Big change then—Shibuya’s kinda loud, huh?”

Kasane: “Mm.”

Krystal: laughs “You’re the quiet type, huh? Don’t worry, I talk enough for two.”

Kasane: “..I noticed.”

They pass a vending machine humming in the background.

The dorms came into view—tall glass building with crimson banners fluttering, NOVA ACADEMY RESIDENCE EAST glowing in white letters. Steam rose from the street vents, curling around their legs.

Krystal stopped at the steps. “Well, here we are! You’re lucky—you’ll probably get assigned to the east wing too. Rooms are small but cozy. And the cafeteria’s actually decent, which is like, a miracle.”

Kasane removed one earbud, letting the city’s hum fill the silence. “Thanks… for showing me.”

Krystal waved it off. “No problem! We newbies gotta stick together. Oh—I’m Krystal Amane, by the way.”

“Kasane, Kasane Arisato…” she replied quietly.

“Nice to meet you, Kasane. Guess we’ll be seeing a lot of each other.”

The rain finally stopped. Somewhere above, thunder rolled faintly—distant but deep, like the world exhaling.

Kasane glanced up at the dark clouds.

Kasane (monologue)

“This city…something seems off..”

Krystal followed her gaze. “Hm? What’s up?”

Kasane shook her head. “Nothing. Just… feels like a storm’s coming.”

They entered the dorm together, the automatic doors hissing shut behind them.

Outside, the puddles shimmered—each one pulsing faintly with light, like tiny hearts beneath the rain.

Soundscape:

[Soft lobby ambience — rain muffled against tall windows, quiet footsteps, distant elevator chime.]

Kasane stepped into the Nova Academy residence lobby, droplets still clinging to her black boots.

The clerk behind the front desk looked up from a tablet.

“Welcome to Nova Academy Residence East. Checking in?”

Kasane nodded, setting her ID card on the counter. “Kasane Arisato. First year.”

The clerk scanned it, fingers tapping. “Ah, here you are. Room E-207, top floor. Window view — you lucked out.”

He slid a slim keycard across the counter. “Elevator’s down the hall to your left. Orientation’s tomorrow at nine.”

Kasane accepted the card with a small nod. “Thanks.”

[Sound — elevator doors closing, gentle ascent hum.]

Moments later, the doors opened on a quiet corridor washed in soft fluorescent light.

Krystal was waiting near the elevator, two cans of coffee in hand.

“Hey! You made it!” she said brightly, handing one over. “They assigned your room already?”

Kasane showed the keycard. “E-207.”

Krystal grinned. “Oh — that’s one of the good ones. Corner room, best skyline in the whole building.”

She took a sip of her own drink. “Well, I’ll let you settle in. Tomorrow’s gonna be crazy, trust me. Good luck!”

Kasane offered a quiet, “You too,” as Krystal waved and disappeared into the elevator.

[Elevator doors close. Faint mechanical chime echoes down the hall.]

Kasane adjusted her duffel bag and walked down the corridor. Everything was spotless — white tile floors, navy trim, the hum of air vents carrying a faint citrus scent. The nameplate beside her door read E-207.

She tapped her keycard.

[Soft click. Door slides open.]

The dorm room wasn’t big — just a single bed, desk, and wardrobe — but what caught her breath wasn’t the room at all.

It was the view.

A wall-sized window stretched across the far side, overlooking Shibuya Crossing.

Thousands of lights flickered below like scattered stars — the rhythm of Tokyo itself. Cars drifted through glowing puddles, neon signs reflected off glass towers, and the steady heartbeat of the city pulsed through the glass.

She slipped off her jacket and let herself sink into the chair by the window. The soft glow from her phone screen lit the room — her playlist looping quietly.

[Faint lo-fi track playing, rain still tapping faintly outside.]

Kasane exhaled. For the first time that night, she’s relaxed.

Kasane (monologue)

“So this is it… my new world.”

Her reflection in the window blurred with the city lights — and then, the memory hit.

A flash of orange.

Flames tearing through wood and glass.

Sirens. Screams. The distant sound of something collapsing.

[Sound fades to a muffled heartbeat.]

Her breath quickened. She gripped the sides of the chair, her pulse syncing with the pounding in her ears.

Kasane (monologue)

“The night they died… the night everything burned.”

She saw her old town again — a quiet coastal place turned to ash.

The silhouettes that moved through the smoke wore no insignias, no faces.

Only the mark of a shadowed insignia, carved into a metal fragment found near the wreckage.

That mark haunted her ever since — the sign of the unknown organization that annihilated the Arisato clan.

Kasane (softly)

“They took everything…”

Her eyes burned as tears welled up — one slipping down her cheek before she quickly wiped it away with the back of her glove.

She leaned forward, staring out at Tokyo’s lights.

Kasane (monologue)

“Years later it still stings…I’ll never forget..!”

The city below flashed as lightning cracked in the distance — reflected in her eye like a spark of vengeance.

Kasane (quietly)

“I’ll find you… all of you.”

The song in her earbuds faded into silence, replaced by a low, static hum — like something beneath the city was stirring again.

Kasane glanced down at her reflection.

She blinked, jaw tightening.

Kasane (monologue)

“No more running.”

Outside, thunder rolled over Shibuya — low and distant, but enough to shake the window just slightly.

Kasane stood and turned off the lights, leaving only the city to illuminate the room as she tries to sleep after a long day of traveling.
